Asshole! I'm not throwing my name in just yet. I thought I was going this past March and got sick at the wrong time. Now I haven't jumped since Sept 2010 We'll see how it goes this time. I wanna be on that jump. I wanna see that currency training. Actually, in this case, it is partially true... she is making jello shots for New Years. Now, not sure about Christmas at the brz house... I think he wasn't joking at all I'm quite glad that I chose to fly a good old 172 for my flight training... I just hate the glass in the SR-20. It's also surprisingly easy to stall that damn thing unintentionally. Maybe 200 jumps (SL/IAD) or about 360 full altitude 60 second freefall jumps, AFF-I. Just bustin your chops. Also: I really think by just giving the student a canopy that's not twisted up and having them pack it for their A is doing a disservice to them. They should be competent to atleast identify and know some of the tips/tricks to get it unscrewed. Last day at work, yesterday they confiscated my ID card (that I need to log onto the computers and get on base), my access badge (to open doors and be allowed on the compound). So here I sit, nothing more than my phone to entertain me, thinking that I shouldn't even be here and technically I shouldn't even be allowed in the compound today. What the hell am I going to do all day? Someone entertain me. The sabre 1 comes in a 190sqft size among others. Sabre 1 and sabre 2 do not have a size discrepancy. However the safire 1 does come in 189 sqft and that canopy is about 1 size smaller than the label says. (The safire 2 is the size it says it is.) I believe that was only canopies made by one of the shops, so there are some out there that actually are the correct size and then some that are smaller (roughly 10% smaller). Mark Lancaster (masterrigger1) could give you more info on that, just a heads up. ETA: There wasn't a Sabre1 189. (well, unless they cut 1ft² off of a 190) "I may be a dirty pirate hooker...but I'm not about to go stand on the corner." iluvtofly DPH -7, TDS 578, Muff 5153, SCR 14890 I'm an asshole, and I approve this message

You have the reversed risers and the rigger hooked them up like normal risers? But yes, I've untangled several canopies that the packers couldn't figure out. The lost look on their face as they're trying to is pretty funny sometimes. I've shown them how to figure out what to do, but hey, they're packers! I've seen a couple different setups, gopro on the top of a helmet gives a good view of feet, gopro on the chest gives good arch view, one mounted to the chin of a fullface seemed to be a decent mix of the two, but I don't like it sticking out that far. Sorry to hear. How come? Too expensive to jump in Korea. That and I'm holding her and her pretty princess' rigs hostage till they come back. I'd add rigger, instructor or experienced jumper to that. Packers can be quite busy, experienced jumpers are usually sligthly less busy (waiting on the packers to pack so they can go jump), instructors without students can be bored... Riggers that get the chance to get away from the loft and in between loads are usually willing to help do a line check (and show you how to do it yourself) When in doubt, get a second opinion. I know when I teach packing, the student's 'check out' consists of me putting all kinds of step/flip thrus in the system and making them untangle it. Is there a manual pitot heat? (not used to big birds, just little cessnas) Could've been a failure in it anyways, but still, something inherently wrong with holding full back and descending, without figuring out WHY. They were probably under the assumption that the higher altitude would get them out of the storm and let them de-ice the pitot, and that the fly by wire computer wouldn't let them do anything unsafe. What are the disadvantages of pop-tops?
theonlyski replied to skydiverek's topic in Gear and Rigging
There is a slightly better chance of catching lines under the pop-top as well. Properly rigged and packed, shouldn't be much of an issue, but it can happen. Pretty hard to catch a line on a Mirage/Icon/Vector3 (for exampe) reserve container. Then you have the semi exposed ones (Wings/Javelins) which give you a little less chance of catching a line under the PC. I think Javelins have a slightly better chance of catching a line under the top flap, but Wings have a little tuck tab to keep that unlikely on their rigs. All of this is IMO anyways. Take that for what its worth.
