  1. Thanks very much, i was wondering about the washer and if that would it tight - i'll look into grabbing one.
  2. Guys i just took delivery of my FF2 this week and man, it's a wonderful piece of kit. I was wondering if i could show you guys my set up and get some advice, ideally from other FF2 owners. A few points: 1 - Do you guys keep the strap on the camera, and if so, is it ideally placed in the hole through the liner? (see "under liner" pic) 2 - How close is the opening hole to the side of your camera lens? As you can see, im using one of the royal lenses here, and now that im set up, the enclosure hole seems almost perfect (see "front" pic). If anyone has a royal lens, is your set up similar to mine? Also, while we are it, take a look at the "side profile" and "top profile" pics. I was under the impression that mounting, even with a royal lens, would have a small amount of protrusion, but i actually have a lens totally flush with the opening hole on the camera enclosure. 3 - Even with the screw on the attachment plate tightened to the camera, i still get a millimetre or so of movement even when i can't screw the screw into the camera anymore (the camera front can be raised by a tiny degree - see "attachment plate" pics 1 and 2 to see if you can see what i mean - out of focus slightly there but you can see the front can tip up slightly). Edited to add - for some reason, if i click the attachment plate pics, it asks if i want to save them, and the only way i can see them is if i save them to my comp, so try that if you are getting the open/save pop up. I figure there should be no play here, but, saying that, when i close the lid, the foam on the inside of the flap presses the camera in place, and even with poking it about and shaking, i seem to get zero movement. Again, do you guys have any play in your camera once screwed to the attachment plate? I would be interested to find out. Thanks guys, appreciate the help.
  3. I found this guy about 5 years ago and he had me in stiches. The quality of his prank calls are second to none - the way he uses his computer to assist, as well as his natural acting ability makes these calls stand out from the rest, and he doesn't get offensive, he is just weird and off the wall. Anyway i hadn't checked the site for a year or so, and he has a nearly 40 minute long prank call to Christian Slater which i'm about half way through right now. Scroll down to the "Classics" at the bottom and have a listen. http://www.blackout.com/cranks.htm "Skydiving is a door" Happythoughts
  4. thanks for the quick reply - i just tried to search before posting this but came up with diddly. If you would be so kind as to try to track the thread down and post a link, i would be very grateful. Thanks
  5. Are they comfy/durable/practical etc? Thanks "Skydiving is a door" Happythoughts
  6. Over here in the UK, we are getting reports that support for the President is at an all time low, specifically with regards to the US invovlement in the war in Iraq. I'm just wondering - is this true? Whats the feeling amongst you/your friends in the US with regards to the war? Did you support GWB/the war, and now you have changed your mind? If so, can you identify why? This is not a thread for "I supported GWB and i will support him to my grave" posts, although i'm sure those will crop up. I want to hear from people who have specifically changed their minds and the reasons why (and this can also go the other way - for instance, if you were anti war, but are now pro). 7. I haven't been to many dz's, but the majority i have been to have female manifesters. Does anyone know why this is? "Skydiving is a door" Happythoughts
  8. Anyone seen this? It seems kind of an odd record to break but whatever floats your boat i guess. I wonder if food tastes "less" due to thinner atmosphere up there? Not sure how they will eat with masks on either, but i'm sure we will see some coverage in the news tomorrow. http://www.champagnemummaltitudechallenge.com/main.htm "Skydiving is a door" Happythoughts
  9. With the Live 8 concert coming up, i was wondering, how much of a difference did the original Live Aid concert make to famine in Africa? What benefits has it brought about. What would doubling aid for African countries do for the poor and starving, and how would the aid get into THEIR hands, and not those of the corrupt governments there? Are benefit gigs like this merely stages for self promoting do-gooders, or do they actually do some good? I was only 9 but i was at the original Live Aid concert with my parents. Now that 20 years have gone by, and i've grown up, and realise the reality of what happens in the world, i'm sat here trying to find info online about just what benefits have been reaped, and why there is now "another Live Aid" type concert, If anyone can back up their opinions with linked articles/news stories, that would be great. Edited to add this link which partially answers my own question, but thought i would post it up if anyone was interested in reading it... http://www.guardian.co.uk/arts/live8/story/0,16066,1513359,00.html?gusrc=rss "Skydiving is a door" Happythoughts
  10. I had this on my PC9 some time ago. When i called Sony i actually managed to get a hold of someone there who knew about this, and from waht i remember (this was a year or so back now) it was due to a tape related issue - can you eject your tape and try this with another tape to see if it affects anything? Try running a tape cleaner through it to see if the heads need cleaning. It may well be a part issue thats causing it, but mine wasn't - i just took the tape out that was in there, used another one and it was good to go. If the tape of the mini DV cassette becomes slackened or "crinkled", it can cause this error, from what i remember. Hope that helps "Skydiving is a door" Happythoughts
  11. Glad you are ok, but this is rather perturbing - my FF2 just arrived yesterday! Do you have any idea how this happened? Did it rip the right side strap? How large was the hole you made when setting up the cutaway system in that strap? Has anyone heard of this happening before? "Skydiving is a door" Happythoughts
  12. there is no way in the world im going near that attachment! "Skydiving is a door" Happythoughts
  13. good points and well put together post, thanks. "Skydiving is a door" Happythoughts
  14. what he said. Also, remember that issues with gear are useful to dig into, not just for your own benefit, but if it unveils something more serious, it might be something other jumpers are not aware of. Although highly unlikely, when gear fails, there is a very slim possibility that it's due to an issue at manufacture point. This can affect other jumpers - i can think of 2 such issues that i have had to have checked on my own gear since i started jumping that others had found on identical gear during normal jumping. Slim a chance of this happening is, always do your best to find out exactly went wrong in your situation and if it was gear related, as it can save lives. Finally, if this is not gear related, why did your EP's not work as planned? What could have helped, with hindsight? Have you spoken to instructors to work this out and planned out in your head how to deal with a similar situation should it occur again? "Skydiving is a door" Happythoughts
  15. cool story and interesting technique, thanks. PS i'm not going to go out and try this during break off. I might try this on a solo, but i won't do it to compromise my flat track (which i have to say is fast enough to get me away from the formation). The main point of this post is to work out if anyone can do this, and specifically if there is video of it, so thanks to all contributors
  16. cool thanks, that's what im talking about, although he sort of goes into a headdown configuration. I'm wondering if anyone can track like this and maintain their heading and horizontal lift. I don't really want to learn this right now, i just was wondering if anyone could do it as i imagine it must be really hard. "Skydiving is a door" Happythoughts
  17. thanks, that's what i'm referring to. I can do like one revolution but as you say, once you start trying to barrel roll more than that, i find it really hard. I wish i could see some more video of this, anyone know of any? "Skydiving is a door" Happythoughts
  18. I saw a guy (i think from Airspeed) doing this funky track on Good Stuff when he just continually barrel rolled and did this "corkscrew" track. I would think it's extremely difficult to do this but would like to see more of people doing this maneuver. Does anyone know where i can see any video? Thanks "Skydiving is a door" Happythoughts
  19. That's David Belle, a French guy and one of the pioneers of "le parkour", or "free running" as it's known. You can find out more about him at www.davidbelle.com if interested, search the web for some of his videos, they are amazing and show you just what you can do with your body, a lot of practice, huge balls, and an untapped urban playground. 20. LOL good story and yeah, when those suckers jump, i run screaming like a little girl, i don't care WHO i'm with or WHERE i am, you will see me freak the hell out. "Skydiving is a door" Happythoughts
  21. I don't even want to know what a Brown Recluse is but it sounds horrific. I was in bed a year back, half asleep, reading with the table light on and saw a shadow moving on the wall next to the bed out the corner of my eye and flew out of the room in double quick time - big house spider on the wall next to me, freaked me out bad, couldn't sleep properly for ages - although, in a rather heroic moment of mine, i managed to capture that one and get him out (no WAY was i going to be able to sleep if he was in the room with me). I had a friend who once threw the top stalk thing of a large tomato and me and yelled spider and i freaked out so bad i almost physically attacked them so i know how you feel on that one. It's nice to know there are perfectly rational grown men out there who get freaked out by these things as bad as i do. "Skydiving is a door" Happythoughts
  22. My friend had bruises from my elbow for a while when that movie came out! The worst thing is, people are like "just kill them" but i can't - for one i don't particularly like killing things, but the main thing is, i suffer not only from arachnophobia, but whatever the phobia is of squashing bugs - the thought of killing a big spider with a shoe/newspaper totally grosses me out, i have no idea why. Damn i'm a wuss. "Skydiving is a door" Happythoughts
  23. all i'm saying is thank god your attachment didnt work for me. Curiousity got the better of me, and although i don't know what a camel spider is, the thinking behind it, is it would be something that would probably scare the bejeebus out of me "Skydiving is a door" Happythoughts
  24. Man this is ridiculous - a bran flake fell out of the box of cereal yesterday at a weird angle, hit the side of a box of juice and flew off onto the counter and i thought (looking at it out the corner of my eye) a spider had jumped out and i almost jumped out of my skin. If i see a spider sometimes i can barely look at the thing, let alone catch it. Small one's don't bother me, but larger ones (say the size of a 50p or quarter etc) freak me the hell out. I can't get it out of my system. I remember the first time i got freaked was when i was in South Africa staying with relatives, maybe aged 5 and i went to sleep looking at 2 or 3 largeish spiders on the ceiling, and when i woke up they had gone and i was freaked out because i didnt know where they were. Thats the earliest memory i have of arachnophobia. I once tried to cure myself by looking at a largeish spider for ages, and i did this for a while (5/10 mins?) until it scurried somewhere and i ran screaming from the room. Does anyone know how to cure arachnophobia/has been cured of arachnophobia? My friend from Texas is staying with me and said she caught sight of "the biggest spider she has ever seen in her life" in the TV room the other night and i just can't relax in there now.
