Good deal! Glad it worked. That's a good page to keep in your favorites. Chuck

Try www.parachuteriggers.com/packing%20instructions.htm if that doesn't work, PM me. There is a site, where you can downl-load the instructions for the Laser reserve. Hope, this helps. Chuck edited to correct web address.

As kingbunky mentioned, DON'T shove the cells into the center cell. This is mentioned in the owner's manual for the Sabre. I have done as he mentioned after having a few 'whackers' on my older Sabre - 190. I have found, folding the four cells on either side of the center cell, in-ward (as part of pro-packing) and next to the center cell. I ease all that back and in. I roll the tail, 3 - 4 times. When I four-way the slider, I get a good portion of the slider out toward the nose, to get a good 'scoop'. The slider will catch the air first and help slow the opening. I have had real good results with this method. The last hard opening I had, tore the line-attachment point off where the steering line attaches to the right, tail corner of the canopy. After repairing it, I went to my present method of packing with no problem. Hope, this helps. Chuck

Since the manufacturer of your harness-container, has been kind enough to call you and ask how you like your rig, give them a call and discuss the situation with them. They'll be more than happy to help you, I'm sure. They may 'fix' it for no charge or a slight fee. Chuck

"IMO folks like that are into power and control & have a bully type personality." As well as low self-esteem! Just some sorry little person lacking in 'back-bone' angry with themselves for not having the guts or gumption to 'test' themselves. I'd ignore the little jerk and never mention skydiving again. Chuck

Sounds like strips of 'spring' metal and as you mentioned, like pack opening bands. I've seen them (spring metal) on old backs. Have never seen them on seats or chests. Is gear getting like the mini-skirt? Some of the old 'stuff', coming back? Chuck

I'd be shocked too! He's a lucky man, to have so many caring friends. Very nice gift and more than thoughtful. My congradulations to him on his accomplishment. Chuck (Former Michi-gander)

Got money to throw away? Don't care how your canopy lands?

Real good point! I have had jumpers, mostly newer ones, ask me to check the trim on their zippy little parachute (less than 50 jumps on it). The first thing I do is check for and remove twists from the steering lines. I have tried to point this out to folks but, it usually falls on 'deaf ears'. Also, knots can form above or below the guide rings if the twists aren't taken care of. Chuck -
If, the brake-toggle line is not there, get with your rigger. Chuck

How would you feel if your rigger smoked dope?
masterrig replied to Perche61's topic in Gear and Rigging
Drugs have been and always will be a part of our society. Alchoholic beverages have been around since early man. We as humans, have in us a thing called 'choice'. We can choose whether or not we wish to involve ourselves. We tried to do away with booze, during Prohibition... a big failure. We now have 'The War on Drugs' (joke). As of this time, drugs are out-lawed yet, some 'choose' to partake of them. We have other choices we can make in life, like riggers. There are a lot of them out there. Some drink, some don't. Some enjoy firin'-up a 'fat-boy' some don't. What I'm getting at is, we can pick and choose our riggers. If, we don't wish to use the services of a certain rigger because he wears pink socks... go to someone else. No sense gettin' all balled-up about it. As I've said earlier, I quit drinking and smoking (tobacco, never got into weed). I just 'chose' to do that. It's all about 'choices'. Chuck Thanks, for the chance to 'rant'. -
If, you're not happy with the pack job, like Hooknswoop said... take it to another rigger. Chuck

How would you feel if your rigger smoked dope?

We know! Hee, hee! Chuck -
It works good on tie-dye. I tested a sample of tie-dye material, washing it in Woolite and no problem. I've cleaned oil spots out of it also with naphtha and again, no problem. Chuck

How would you feel if your rigger smoked dope?
masterrig replied to Perche61's topic in Gear and Rigging
I get things pointed-out that I repaired on someone's rig, a year or two earlier and how it's 'still just great'. I have to look closely to make sure it's my work. I can't remember that far back. Like you Rob, I've got stacks of notes on legal pads because of my memory. I used to drink and smoke (cigarettes) and quit it all about 9-yrs. ago. Maybe, it's the Copenhagen I use. Thank goodness for Poynter's and other source materials. Chuck -

It'd be real easy to just check-off everything on the list, giving the impression the work was done. I think, it's about trust. If, you trust a rigger... stay with that rigger. If you don't trust a rigger... find another. Chuck -
What I was getting at was, the rigger's number and seal symbol, being listed on the packing data card has to match the seal. That's one reason, I use a stamp for my number and seal symbol. I suppose, if the rig is at a DZ, several states away from the rigger who packed it, a simple phone call to the rigger would work.

With all the extras and all, for that price, it's a heckuva deal. You'll know better, after your rigger goes through it all. Good luck to you! To give you an idea, if, you can locate a Para-Gear from that year (yr. of mfgr of the container) and compare prices you'll see! Chuck

... or, on the packing data card for the parachute, harness-container. Chuck

I would try contacting PD and discuss this with them. You may be 'presenting' too much of the slider to the leading edge of the canopy. When 4-waying the slider during packing, try not pulling so much slider toward the leading edge. It may be the size of the slider!? Chuck
-
There is a DZ in your area and maybe, you could visit with one of the riggers there and see what you might work-out. Chuck
-
Just think. The more you do... the better you get! Keep asking questions. The only 'dumb' question is the question not asked. Chuck

How would you feel if your rigger smoked dope?

How do you feel about it? That is the important thing. Not what anyone else thinks. Do you feel that what he does affects his work? Before I became a rigger, the man I took my rig to drank beer. He just didn't drink while he was working... the beer was his 'personal treat' for when he was done for the day. I don't see where it means a thing, as long as it is not 'on the job'. If, it makes you nervous, find another rigger. Personally, I don't drink or smoke. Chuck -
What Sparky said. 3-in-1 oil gets 'tacky' and will attract dirt. To clean really dirty 'blackened' cables, I'll spray some WD-40 on a rag (old T-shirt), wipe the cables clean then wipe the cables again with the clean part of the cloth to remove any residue. I'll wipe the cables down with pure silicon like that used on Cypres closing loops. Chuck

Check the owner's manual for your canopy. Information, in regard to cleaning should be there. Also, the canned, compressed air you mentioned, contains propane as a propellent. I would strongly advise not using it. Chuck
