And yet the people continually vote either Dem or GOP??? I don't get it, I also don't understand why people are so blindly loyal to such self serving rats (regardless of which party they're in). while the blind loyalty is part of it, there is more. The parties have rigged (the best term I can think of right now) the system to help keep these two parties in power. The process of getting signatures and getting on ballots is not simple, and that by design allows the two parties to stay in power Now, some of that complexity might be needed to keep the process from being overrun but, what these parties have done and its effect is overlooked much of the time You chose a good word for it... rigged! Just another way the politicians are certain of 'job security'. Chuck

The problem is that when those blinders allow the horse to go in the desired direction, it's called "focus." Look at the stock market, with day traders (and even minute traders). Look at our schools, wanting instant results. You don't turn a battleship instantly. And with a lot of people, there's going to be a lot of disagreement as to the direction it should turn. Wendy P. Good point! Follow the money. Chuck

I say it starts with the people. It is the people who keep voting these politicians in. There are simply too many people who are single issue voters, or who vote strictly by party. The current polarization will continue and get much worse before it gets any better. I agree! Too many voters not looking at the big picture, down the road. That seems to be quite common in this country... instant gratification. It's like putting blinders on a horse. The politicians know this quite well and work their campaigns along those lines. Chuck

I'm not sure what the answer is but it may have something to do with how much we pay these people, the status we afford them and the amount of power we let them grab. Maybe we need to revisit this equation..... but who am I kidding ? You may have struck on something! I get the feeling that the word 'entitlement' might be a part of the equation, here. The politicians work hard to get votes, they need to apply some of that effort into doing their job. They are supposed to work for us. I'm not saying they need to hold our little hands but just do the damned jib they are supposed to. To me, they're just a bunch of self-centered slackers. Chuck

The unfortunate truth is that only 48 or 49% of the people agree. The 51 to 52% of progressive liberals will keep the old guard. They are the low information voters who will believe the last political ad they see. IMO, it will take a catastrophe to bring about the corrective change. It is known as SHTF. Make whatever preparations you think are sufficient. Seems like there's no sure cure as long as voters continue to fall for the same old song and dance out of the politicians. I don't care for the idea of something catastrophic happening but if that's what it takes... Chuck

I would say, it starts at the White House and trickles-down, We have a president who seems more concerned with his legacy than the American people. The rest of the politicians are more concerned with their personal gain and well being and have hung the American people out to dry. They've all lost sight of the 'job'. Just watch the change in them at election time! It's time to clean house!! Chuck

You got that right! The pols have been in office so long, they've forgotten 'why' they are there and have formed their own agendas, thinking only of themselves. They've sold-out the American people. We need to clean house of the 'old guard' and get some fresh faces in there. Chuck

That was good! Keep your mind on the 'job'. As you've found out, that helmet can be replaced. If you can, try some of the newer helmets and make your decision. My helmet is an old Arrowhead full-face. Chuck

Same thing happened when I was jumping in IN. On one of the first jumps of the season, a low-timer landed near the end of a runway and found an Altimaster. He loaned it to me to wear on the next load, so I could compare readings with mine. It worked fine. Lucky for him, since he had not yet purchased one. Good testimonial for these altimeters. I found the biggest problem with folks losing wrist-mount altimeters was not cleaning lint and etc. from the hook Velcro or not changing Velcro when it gets worn out. Chuck Chuck

I knew a guy who lost his beloved HALO helmet on a dive. As he was packing his Paracommander, he found a hard lump in it. The helmet in the inverted apex. Un-believable! There's some strange stuff that happens in this sport. One of our guys lost his Barigo altimeter in free-fall. One of our students found it about 6-months later in a cotton field. The owner dusted it off and asked our pilot to take it up on the next load and see what happens. The dang thing worked! Chuck

Our DZO made a tandem jump with a student and on opening, lost his wrist-mount altimeter. After getting back to the DZ, he asked me if I would pack the tandem for him, for a later jump. While packing the tandem main, I found his altimeter in one of the cells. Talk about lucky! Chuck

Didn't see that coming! The 'Broad Street Bullies' have a history of toughness and winning and Laviolette has a mediocre resume. I think, Philly wants more of a tough guy for a coach. I don't think that Laviolette meets that criteria. Philly kust doesn't want to start the season on a losing streak and you can't blame them. Chuck

Yes I do! Chuck

That seems the simplest way! Chuck

That's hilarious! In the 50's or 60's, some guy put an ad in magazines stating that if you send him a dollar, he will tell you how to make a million dollars. The secret was putting an ad in magazines and telling people to send you a dollar for the secret. I learned later, the guy came real close to getting a million bucks. Chuck

The best one ever, long before the internet. About '61-'62 or so this guy puts an ad in the New York Times, which said, "Send $5 to this post office box." Nothing else. And in the money rolled in. They went after him for fraud but his defense that he never promised anything; and he didn't. Wish I would have thought of it. JerryBaumchen I honestly remember that! It's genius! Chuck

I am working from home today... and just got a call from "Customer Care" so I hit 1 for more info.. They were going to be magnanimous and put in a security system for me IF I let them put a sign in my front yard.. I said NAH. I pass on the offer.. don't need it.. I already have a security system.... I have 3 large dogs that let me know when some zombie might be in the yard.. and something of .44 in diameter to make real sure.... that by the time the county sheriffs actually show up... said zombie will already be getting cooled off. I am thinking letting some of these idjiots into your home to case the home.. PLUS having their system in place that could probably be conveniently turned off/// Sorry I would pass Oh and take me off your suckers list... "God Bless Murica" Sounds to me like your security system is much better than what they are offering. S&W make one of the finest of security systems. By the way... I have gun envy! I only have a .357. I gotta up-grade. Chuck

What I would like to know is, how many people actually fall for these scams. My all time favorite is the (internet) one where they want you to send $10,000.00 for taxes on lottery winnings of millions. I've strung one or two along on the internet till they realized I was screwin' with 'em. Chuck

I can believe that! Chuck

Wouldn't surprise if he 'meant' to do that. Like the lady at my doctor's office said the other day; "What do you expect? He's just another Illinois politician!" Chuck
