Sure. He does make a point. Like him or not. Chuck

Exactly this is the kind of thing causing the problems. The BLM is constantly changing the rules and often for idiotic reasons. Locking cattle out of the water is saving the water quality right? Give me a break, this water is used by Elk, Pronghorn and even Mule deer. So they locked out all the wild animals that need the water source way to go great management. So Deer, Elk and Antelope use the water source but a few cows are going to destroy it I don't think so. This is all about government control. I couldn't agree more with your last three posts. William Jennings Bryan said; 'Burn your towns and they will re-build. Burn your farms and your towns will be gone.' Chuck

Happens to everyone including myself. All those nested quotes make it really difficult to follow along with who said what. Generally I tend to break mine apart and try to not quote EVERYTHING which cuts down on clutter and makes things more clear. I'll try that. Thanks! Chuck

I'm trying to get the hang of it. Thanks for pointing that out. Chuck

***Do you truly think that the BLM came out and tried to confiscate Bundy's cattle without just cause?*** My question is why did it take the BLM twenty years to confront him? Any landlord can take 30 - 90 days to evict a tenant. It is very simple IMO, Bundy failed/refused to pay the req'd fees for grazing. He lost in court, twice. He cheated every US citizen out of the money due them. How is it every U.S. citizen's money? Isn't it the BLM's money? Chuck

Most states I know of have enacted laws restricting cattle from direct access to stream beds because of the damage they do.. not to mention the water quality issues after a herd of cattle shits and pisses in a small stream. I would think that in even drier portions of the country.. with that habitat even more rare that protection of a spring would be even more important. You and I both know what most water sources that are not protected look and smell like. For example... http://onpasture.com/2013/03/19/riparian-regulations-threaten-livestock-2/ You can't blame the agencies for trying to comply with the laws.. you CAN blame those who have continued to go on polluting a diminishing resource that in the not very distant future if you want water you can buy it from Nestle like everyone else. It seems to me, government agencies could make attempts at working with stock raisers and have an exchange of ideas first, rather than just taking drastic measures like they tend to do. Here in the Southwest, water is getting more and more scarce. This country likes to eat and a very large portion of our population likes to eat beef. The various government agencies just make it more and more difficult for stock raisers and make their own problems. If the government keeps it up, we'll wind-up putting farmers and ranchers out of business and we'll be dependent on other countries for our food as well as increasing the un-employment rate. Chuck

Here's some more government bureaucratic B-S! http://home.myhughesnet.com/news/read/article/the_associated_press-rural_county_feds_locked_in_water_rights_dispute-ap Chuck

Good question, I don't know if the bridge is owned by West Virginia or the federal government. But I do know a bureaucrat decides when where and if you can jump. If you jump on the wrong day you're a criminal. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_River_Gorge_Bridge Chuck

Meaning they won't read the report either :) They'll get one of their aides to read it, then, give them the 'Cliff Notes' version so they don't look too stupid when the discussion comes-up. Chuck

It is still but a distraction.. the studies are a drop in the bucket of the real money makers, Big Pharma and the military-industrial complex that Ike warned us about.. back before the GOP lost its mind completely and utterly for the Oligarchs who are the beneficiaries of MOST of the government largesse. Yup! Chuck
-
Those studies(?) are paid for with OUR tax dollars. Just like with all the 'pet projects' are paid for wit our tax dollars. All those 'grants'? Same ol' deal... tax payer dollars. I would like to add that some grants are private grants from large corporations and the like. The majority are tax payer dollars. Chuck

FTFY That'll work! Chuck I think we pretty much have come to the point that our votes will not matter much longer. No one of any substance can even get on the ballot... they have been bought and paid for by the Oligarchy before you ever hear of them. For some time now! I'm sure, they get their collective heads together and pick their 'golden child', see to it that their choice is well taken care of, get them to be 'indebted' to the old guard and give them their marching orders. I don't care about their rules of conduct or whatever. They're going to do what they're going to do, whether we like it or not. If, the voters wind-up suckin' a hind teat... they don't care. As long as everything goes their way. That, goes for both parties!! Chuck

I'm sure we've all been guilty of that at one time or another. I'm sorry to have been so harsh, I'm just so used to the "Obama made it rain on my boogie" mentality that is so prevalent here. The motorcycle helmet issue is interesting, though, in that it's a pretty good metaphor for the freedom vs personal/taxpayer responsibility issue. I skydive (well, I'm getting back to it this summer), but I have health insurance and life insurance that covers it, and I pay for long-term disability, so my family is as insulated as I can manage against economic disaster should anything truly bad happen. I also use a RSL and an AAD, and always wear a helmet (Pro-Teck, nerdy but supposedly the best protection against impact to the head). The same applied when I rode a motorcycle, and I always wore a full-face helmet. In my car I always wear a seat belt. I don't see any great value (for me) in deliberately avoiding safety devices that could make the difference between eventual recovery and permanent disability. What do we do about people who choose to forgo using safety devices, increasing their risk, yet also expect that the government (Medicaid, Social Security disability) will take care of them should catastrophe strike, and refuse to pay for insurance? Don This all reminds me of something our DZO told a first jump student when the student asked; "Why do you guys wear helmets?" The DZO responded with; "It helps to make cleaning-up the mess easier in the event of impact with the ground!" Also, I watched a girl student land in high winds (30+) and get dragged across the ground. The wind kicked-up after the load bailed. In the process of being dragged, her head hit a cement culvert that ran under the runway. When she got back to the hangar, I noticed her ProTec helmet was split from the impact with the culvert. The impact knocked her a little loopy but she was O.K. Chuck

A few years ago, UPS left a big box at my front door. I recognized the name on the label as that of a sailplane pilot I worked for. I took the box to my shop, and when I opened it, there was his emergency rig... the parachute was all wadded-up with a note; "Lost the tail off my glider... THANKS for your good work!" Also, there was a bottle of Jack Daniels!!
