Where in LA are you moving? Some places I'd recommend checking out is the Santa Monica pier and 3rd Street Promenade. You should also check out Venice Beach. All of them are great places to walk around and relax, plus there is some great people watching. Griffith Park Observatory is also a great place. If you're into science its got some really cool displays. If not, its still got some great views of the area and there's some good hiking in the area. I would recommend that you go to Costco and get a pair of Kirkland jeans for about $12. That way you get some protection when you PLF or slide in on a landing and you wont really care if they get torn up. Save the money for jumping. Just my $0.02.
