  1. +1 Nothing wrong with checklist mentality. I use it on every single skydive. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  2. I think everyone is missing the point. The issue is what to do with the kids who are not being raised correctly by their parents. Most answers are along the line of, "the parents shouldn't have kids unless they are responsible enough to raise them". It is cheaper to prepare a child to be a minimum wage earning productive member of society than it is to put them in jail after their irresponsible parents fucked them up. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  3. Why are you still talking? Don't you have friends or family who can look out for you and let you know you are making a fool of yourself? I am not trying to be offensive. I just hate seeing a fellow skydiver self-imploding. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  4. IMHO, I owe every Vet the benefit of the doubt they are a good person. If they prove otherwise, knowing they are a vet makes me think less of them because they are reflecting poorly on other vets. I am not a Vet, and I have respect for people who follow through on commitments. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  5. Did you notice how many of the items are out-of-stock? Must be the guvmint trying to buy up all of the chocolate ammo. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  6. I was taking a canopy course and we had 8 people in the air. One girl spun up her stilletto and cut it away. I followed her freebag, and found it very disorienting trying to match direction and fall rate. I also realized I was focusing too much on that piece of shit and not the other canopies in the sky. I immediately stopped chasing it. I would also recommend not trying to catch a freebag when there are other canopies around, and given that the freebag had to come from a canopy in the area, that means don't go after them. YMMV For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  7. Reading the article, it is against the UCMJ to allow someone to plead guilty to a capital offense. He wanted the charges to be reduced to unpremeditated murder which is a non-capital offense and plead guilty. The article said "she refused to let him plead guilty", when it should have said, "she refused to reduce the charges against him so he could plead guilty" For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  8. OK - I found it http://dailycaller.com/2013/03/12/feds-pay-for-study-on-why-lesbians-are-fat/ I would rather have this thread drift toward fat lesbians, but for the sake of following along, I agree the 2nd amendment should be amended. Until it is, stop infringing. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  9. I read the article and given that it did not site the source of the fat lesbian statistic, I question the rest of the facts presented. I mean, really, who brings up lesbian statistics without citing the source? I tried googling 'fat lesbians', but the firewall at work didn't like it. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  10. Makes you wonder how he would have handled being questioned about being suspended for five days for making someone have sex with him to get out of a traffic stop. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  11. +1 to Start Skydiving. I jump there almost every weekday in the summer. You can practically walk onto a load, and it is in your path from NY to Missouri. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  12. And I feel a little sorry for your descendants. I think it is really cool to find stuff my grandfather wrote. Imagine 50 years from now when nobody writes anything anymore. Even today logbooks are becoming electronic. You are not only depriving your doddering old self some memories, you may be depriving some yet unborn great-grandchild. They may enjoy it (or sell it on some future Ebay). I log everything - draw pretty pictures -print and staple photos in the log, and get everything signed. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  13. If you believe the United States Department of labor, there are 12.3 million people unemployed, or 7.9%. http://www.bls.gov/news.release/empsit.nr0.htm By doing the math, the USDL thinks there are approximately 150 million people capable of being employed. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  14. I don't think the gangs will stand much of a chance against organized American Capitalism. Do you think they would have a more effective supply chain than Anheiser-Busch, or Walmart? Do you think they will have any clout with police or the feds like large companies that spend millions on lobbyists? Once the product becomes legal, the gangs will be something to be sneezed at. Corporate America will provide a better product at a cheaper price. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  15. You will need to attach the other photo. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  16. If your family budget were $1000 and you had to cut $23 out of it, what would you eliminate? According to the President, you should stop buying medicine and food for your children and stop buying gas for the car. Sounds about right. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  17. Nice straw man argument. Is it your assertation that the US Government is the right size for task it performs? Have you worked in private industry where 20% downsizings are not unusual? For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  18. I was trying to sound like Shakespeare. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  19. That massive organization is caused by legal liabilities. If you mess up Fido's hip replacement, the dog won't sue you. If a doctor messes up grandma's hip, she will sue. I vote we kill all of the non-skydiving lawyers. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  20. If he did that, we could never have thread drift about direct/indirect supervision For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  21. From the SIM: I should have said 'self-supervised' unstead of 'unsupervised'. I agree with your 'indirect supervision' though. The Instructor is responsible for the student until licensed (arguably indirect supervision assuming all jumps by an unlicensed skydiver are training jumps). For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  22. Wearing an altimeter adds complexity and failure points however small they might be. Your altimeter could start coming off as you go to pull, could twist around and prevent a clean grab of the pilot chute, as well as many other distractions. Why add these complications to the hand that has the most work to do, when you presumably have another one? When you advance in your skydiving career, (maybe become a TI), you can add complexity, but as a student, keep it simple. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  23. They are both important. The person who has the most to lose if you are not in compliance with F.A.R. 105.43a (reserve repack in 180 days) is the pilot of the aircraft. You can jump without the card and seal, but the pilot probably won't allow it as his ass is on the line. The FAA probably wont go after you, but they will ground the pilot if they feel he didn't take the proper steps to insure the regulations were being followed. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  24. Different Drop Zones break the price out many ways. In a nutshell, you need a minimum of 16 skydives to skydive solo unsupervised, and 25 to get a license which allows you to jump with people other than coaches and instructors. If you are price shopping, find out the total cost of all 25 jumps to an A license for comparison purposes. Ask if there is a charge for a packing course to learn the proper way to pack your parachute (there should be and you should take it). Find out how much each additional coached jump costs if you need additional jumps beyond the 25 to get your license. Having said all above, you shouldn't just be focused on price. You should determine if you 'like' and trust the people who will be training you. Ask to see training materials, and spend some time at their facility watching their operations. Call them. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  25. I made an offer on them yesterday. She sent an email to me indicating "Sorry - I just sold them". Could be legit. I don't think a scammer would bother to send that email. If someone on DZ.com bought them, hopefully they will clue us in. Edited for grammar. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
