I heard they took off with at least one fun jumper and a Tandem and at 400' the cap "blew". The pilot was able to do a 180 and land downwind. It was a 182 if I remember correct. I would imagine there would be a report for an emergency landing, but I could be wrong about that. Maybe Pilot Dave will help out. Two things bother me about this. Do oil caps really "blow" off or are they left off??? getting away with doing a 180 low, slow and loaded seems pretty amazing to me, assuming they were at 400'. Not a pilot but do have some experience flying so I could be wrong again. Great job getting it down safely, weather the pilot put them there or not everyone was ok. I do know this, not a plane I want to be on anytime soon. Thats all I can say about that..

You get one wish for the New Year. What is it?
upndownshop replied to ntrprnr's topic in The Bonfire
Not to make the same trusting, costly, and painful mistake that I made in 2006! On a more positive note: That my business idea works! -
Just a couple of reminders. www.jumptalk.com re.skydiving.com uspa.org check all the local pawn shops, file a police report. also you might be able to go online to a coloring program and print it out so you can post a pic if you cant find one good enough. Your profile says a pr 129 reserve, if it is a pd it is a 126 I wish you the best of luck!! I just checked if we had a section on our website for stolen gear but we dont at this time. www.sunpath.com we do have a "register" your gear section, so if that rig ever showes up for repairs we might make the connection and help recover it. I just talked to out IT guy and we will look at doing a stolen gear section in the future. Good luck. J

Then its bounce proof from there on out???

That sucks! Hope you recover it. Not sure if I met you when I was there a couple of months ago. I was there with Sun Path Demo rigs. Whatever its worth, the rig that was owned by the girl that was with me is now for sale. I have it posted here and on Sun Paths website. Its a TJNK.5 with pink and silver/grey. SP 150 with 35 jumps and a PD 126 I hope you recover your stuff so you dont have to replace it. Have you posted pics and listed it on all the sites? j

Re: [billbooth] Deployment Injury - Perris - 23 November 2006
upndownshop replied to tdog's topic in Gear and Rigging
Is there somewhere a chart that gives the measurement of the dynamic characteristics (for an example, a % of working elongation) of the different lines (HMA, Dacron, etc)... My experience with dacron has been great. I got rid of my stiletto and ordered a new 150 spectre. I had them put dacron lines on it. On my second jump I deployed and next thing I found my self having to look and see if I had a canopy, asking myself "did it open"? It was that soft. Normally I dont have to look of course. It also took about 15 jumps for the slider to start coming down all the way. In the beginning I even had a hard time getting it all the way down. What did happen that took some investigating was that the toggle pressure was like a tandem. Prior to going to a stiletto i put 900 jumps on a 135 spectre, so i am very aware of what it should be. The combination of hard links and the plastic cover would reduce the amount space available for the steering line when the slider grommet was resting on the plastic bumper. I dont pull the slider down past my head so the amount of clearance was to small, especially when the cat eye would try to pass thru. I was afraid of it getting "stuck" when landing. It took of bit of convincing with PD but once they saw it, i was forced to go to soft links with the "hat". All is well now. So fyi, dacron, hard links and plastic guards may not be a good mix. hopefully not to far off topic, but thought I would share this for others...I love the softer openings with dacron and will never jump anything else. I also put it on an x's canopy for her fused neck and it worked well. J -

The time has come; which one should I do?
upndownshop replied to b_dog's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I agree, the secret is jumping. Its the best way to apply the skills you have been taught. An un-current skydiver is a dangerous skydiver. (especially at an early level) SL is a great way to get a taste of this sport with out investing a ton of $, while being somewhat of a "less pressure" dive. two tips: keep jumping, often. find some one that enjoys jumping with the newbie and take advantage of his knowledge, or get a coach. then come to SkyFest 07 -

My brother and I were chatting about life today, and I thought I would share what he said. Now remember I asked him if this was original and he said he just made it up, so for now, its his. I also know that i have heard similar statements yet separate. I haven't been online in a while, so first let me say hello to everyone. This has been a tough year with the April thru November road trip. Things have come up that might slow one down for a bit, or at least it has for me this year. So I say to you all, I think this is a great saying that might help folks along their way. "We all have to live on this planet, we are all just a small family, when one gets hurt we all get hurt" I just think we (mostly for me) could apply this in some way to make all of our lives better. This could be applied in so many ways. So what are the other great ones out there that motivate us? Ok thanks for listening I am on my way to Jamaica at 4:00am in the morning

upndownshop replied to SkydiveMO's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Yup and got my 20 year as well, as a matter of fact they sent me my mothers 40 year so I could present it to her during skyfest while she presented my 20 year to me. They were really on top of it. thanks USPA -

Thanks everyone!!! Had a great time at SD Aggieland. We raised $2500.00 for a busted up skydiver (motorcycle accident). Such a great feeling when people come together. First wingsuit jump, 100 sec's freefall and my slowest speed was 71 mph!! Not bad for an old fart!! So I guess I will be 39 for the next few years. See yall soon J
