  2. Oh yes lets do the pre fest marketing. I have been meaning to call you. send me yuor phone number please. Thanks I appreciate that!! c ya J
  3. I appreciate that comment, this is what is so cool about all of this. This event is not about the AC necessarily. It offers numerous things that no other event does, so its uniqueness has helped make it one of the largest on its own. The AC are just a bonus. And whats even better, they came to me
  4. ahh some idiot thought it would be a great idea to raise money for newer jumpers to get coaching jumps and help keep em in the sport seven years ago. Dumb man I say. What did you do Lee vote no 5 times?
  5. With the changes in other events and other circumstances SF has been flooded from customers, manufacturers (over a dozen confirmed) and Aircraft owners wanting to attend. The AN2 owners have inquired recently so i thought I would give this a shot first before i decide. We have on line Steerman 75% confirmed Pitts -Confirmed Powered Parachutes -confirmed (instructional flights)
  6. My prediction is that most people will not go to another boogie unless it is close, and the numbers will not be large. Sure, people south and southwest may go to SkyFest, people in the Chicago area may go to SummerFest, people in the mideast may go to Richmond-The Boogie, people in the east may go to a Ranch or Cross Keys event, people in the northwest may go to Lost Prairie, people in the west may go to Perris Valley to jump the jet if they have never done so, but... Not in huge numbers. Mainly people will stick close to home (since many of their local DZ's have turbine aircraft anyway.) It has already started, DZ's are planning "local" boogies around that time. What are gas prices going to be this summer? (rhetorical question) I have to agree with you Gary. I am interested to see where the people go. I am sure each of the "major" events will feel some influx. The term "major" is not to take away from any boogie, in my opinion they are all unique, some more than others, but all special. Some might even feel a loss depending on their timing and demographics. If we go by the numbers produced in the last six years for the WFFC, there would only be about 450 people to actually spread around. So split that up between the other 5 major ones and thats 90 folks. Then take the ones that stay home. So my guess is that the majors will see an additional 35 people. Then again, July or August could "produce" the next preferred event in the country based on attendance. Looking forward to analyzing the results. Where ever one decides, please know your limits, scope the area, learn the routine. Especially those first timers, kick back, watch a few hours of loads, maybe get to the event the first day and jump when not so busy. (assuming the event starts midweek) or not. I think most would agree that "awareness" is the biggest life saver in skydiving. Nervous, yet motivated to reach new heights. Have a great summer J BTW Thank you all for your future and continued support. I am very honored to be in the ranks of these other events. The history alone with most of them is impressive and that makes it worth it.
  7. when did you become a nut!!!???? crazy newbie!! Oh bad news no dogs allowed on the dz, you may keep them across the runway where the pond and camping area is but not on the dz side. Dude, bring Katie from Long Island!! I'll buy you a jump if you can get her here. 5:30 is a normal time for balloons rookie!! but they sometimes do late afternoon drops. Just have to wait and see. winds and heat can be a real problem at times. How did the reserve situation turn out? J
  8. I believe the one in Raefor is Owned by Tim D. and is out of service or for sale. Ohio is Fayards as well. Oh and the Casa has been confirmed for SkyFest 7 good luck J
  9. Uh, you're either not being clear abotu what you're saying, or you're wrong. When putting on a wider (but not larger diameter) wheel, the length of the contact patch is the same. The width is larger. Thus, the overall area of the tyre in contact with the ground is larger. I'll try again, if you maintain the original equipment overall height of the tire and wheel assembly and do a proper plus 1 or plus 2. Then you do not change the footprint, you only rotate it. If you go wider only, with out figuring the aspect ratio to maintain the original height then yes you have widened the footprint, but you have thrown off your speedometer. And changed the way it will handles (not alwasy for the better) You can change wheel diameters and still maintain the original height. By changing the way the vehicle was designed to handle at a specific height with wider tires is not always improved performance. Now unless I have forgotten the 17 years as a distric wholesale and retail manager in the tire business. I think I have most of it right. And when you are talking about a high performance vehicle. You have one of two choices, great dry or great wet, but you will never get both. You lose or gain between the two. You can get decent wet but you will lose dry performance. Hope you get your wheel fixed at a decent cost. That shit does suck. Trust me I know. Many a times I had folks come in and say I dont know how that bubble got on my sidewall. good luck
  10. Hey I was just planning my tour and was looking at Wi. I could be there the weekend of 8-17, with Sun Path demos. Mullins wont be that far from you the weekend before, hell I will be where he is at. I could probably get you an Otter out of Texas but you may not like the ferry fee. When is the boogie? J
  11. QuoteBut beyond the cosmetic side of things, a larger diameter wheel can clear bigger brakes. A wider wheel means a wider tyre, which means a bigger contact patch and more traction.reply] If you maintained the same height tire as the original then you did not increase the contact patch you only rotated it. A wider contact patch on the same weight vehicle will mean better Dry traction, not necessarily wet. Which could be a major draw back when it comes to overall safety. But either way that sucks about the wheel, check out aluminum shops, maybe they can polish some of it out. good luck J
  12. There probably was a call.....but..... could be wrong.., but what a concept for a boogie. I like that, clever. And the booze is supplied, nice. Hope its a good one. Wish I could be there, maybe in July. J
  13. Well, we called that Raintoul last year! Hey can pay $50 regis. Oh wait SF7 hasnt happened yet, dont want to put a jinx on Swampfest 05 Thats funny J
  14. go here http://www.skyfestboogie.com/buyingyourfirstrig.htm then when you have more questions, feel free to ask here or even pm me. Good luck and take your time......If you are under 150 pounds I would not spend your money on a container built to hold a 190 or even a 170..... but more on that later. read on and welcome to our sport J
  15. Figure were waiting on her to need her fix...
  16. Rus..............we need to talk............how many SF have you been to? No need to answer.....I have the 6 years of records........ BTW I turn 40 this year!!!!!! Lets see you have pictures of me when I was? what 6!!!! If you want me to stop telling stories about those times, I suggest you commit to SF 7 this year. Besides, how cool would it be for you to attend one of the largest events in the country built from the memory of a man you loved and created by his kids. Especially since we used to pack for you for.....like almost nothing..... like $.50!!
  17. Damn you Jim Now I am gonna have to get the footage I have. She came to Dallas to prepare for that film!! Jerry (my father) was contacted by Hollywood to help her learn and set up some scenes. She was 22. Dude I have a ton of stories about that film and I can prove them. Pic's and 16mm. Jim you have seen the first 10 minutes of the JSM DVD that I made havent you? It has dad giving her a bikini, looks more like a bra and panties but they called it a bikini. She is the only women my mother was ever jealous of in regards to my father. And yes it was September 18th or so 1967, i was just a couple of weeks from being born. Damn you, I so want to tell this story, but now I have to dig up a photo and do some VHS converting to digital to really tell it. Crap!! Great stuff....BTW 6 years later I was packing those same chutes for $.50 each!!!! I really believe it is the only reason my Dad had kids, so he would have packers!!! Ok will find this stuff, like I dont have anything else to do
  18. yeah! boiled in water, milk, sugar, and a bit of butter.
  19. ( If i am not mistaken that porter used to fly at SD Dallas. Then sold to ?? damn who was that? then crashed...As far as I know it was the only porter for jumping with a bombay door, and the damn thing was pink if memory serves me correct. But now that I say that memory probably doesnt serve me.. at all
  20. If you would have stuck around last year you would have seen it up close and personal.
  21. Lakeland is an interesting place. We checked it out when we worked the Sun 'n Fun a couple of years before we moved to Rantoul. The airport is owned half by Lakeland, and half by the guy that runs Sun'nFun, and all of the improvements etc, are on his half, and he's not playing... As much as I love Florida...(yeah right!!, thats why I schedule myself on the road half the year) its not the place IMO. No matter what time of year you choose to hold it, it would only attract a certain segment of the country. And you would have some serious competition in that region any time of the year. Which, as we know would only hurt everyone's event. Beth, lets take some time off, come to SkyFest 7 and other events this year, see whats new, old, working and not working, then lets combine forces and start over.
  22. Um NO! It would not be Tulsa. Dig deeper my friend.
