I have photos of Jerry Schrimsher jumping from the Good Year blimp, I believe it was in the early 70's, maybe the late 60's. The rig he used was a security system originally built for rounds, but when he got the first paraplane square he cut the side flaps down so the square would fit snug. So its hard to tell the date by the equipment.

What?! No PC in that stack??? You guys were slacking. Seriously though, nice job, I've seen a round and a square before but not the delta wings. Awesome! -
Buying a new Oddysey, unable to contact Sunpath
upndownshop replied to AiRpollUtiOn's topic in Gear and Rigging
Sorry that you have not received a response from Sun Path. We have been at PIA for the past two weeks. Pat Thomas (owner of Sun Path) also is the Chair person for PIA and she organizes the Symp. in Jacksonville. So we end up helping her before and after PIA. We will all be back Monday morning. I believe it is $30 each change of tape, that is not just for each color change, it is for each time we have to splice a different piece of tape. This option will not be on any of the color selectors due to the fact that it is rarely done. Be careful when switching colors on the same section, there will be an "overlap" in tape thus creating extra bulk (minimum) and may not be pleasing to the eye. From what you are describing this should be no problem, ultimately you will be putting this information in the Special Instructions section on the order form. You can email me direct if you like on Monday at j@sunpath.com Thanks & Blue skies -
Thats awesome, keep it up. I bet you could do some "training" as well. We have two Dr's that jump out there regularly, luckily the day my brother broke both femurs the two were there, saved his life. The put him in traction by placing a foot on each side of his hips and then pulled the feet until the medics arrived. I thank god that that DZ has those people jumping. Blue ones

Something else I forgot. They had a great relationship with the local EMT's when we would throw big events like SkyFest the EMT's would bring out the ambulance and hang out all day. Ultimately it lead us to getting LifeFlight out there to do a seminar. They flew over us all the time. There are many things that can be done and something is better than nothing. C ya

Glad I could help, & I am sure there are others that can add to this. Blue skies

My former DZ had similar problems. Too expensive to have an EMT on "Staff" there are some things you can do. We designated certain people to do certain things during an accident. One to handle the injured, one to make phone calls, one to handle the crowd. The entire Staff was to keep the "speculating" down to a minimum during a serious injury or death, especially if the press got wind of it. While you may not be licensed you can certainly "share" some basics to your skydiving friends, and I bet your DZO would support it especially during slow times of the year. Another situation that we had was major off landings, like five miles. We couldn't find him, we had the 182 and Caravan looking, while ground crew were searching as well. If our cook hadn't of been a volunteer fireman we may have never of found him. He and I were driving around looking with no luck. About 30 minutes into it his pager went off, he took my cell phone and called, it was a jumper in a back yard with a broken ankle (student) we found him. So to solve this problem we updated our aerial shot, broke it into grids and numbered them. Gave them to the pilots, manifest, ground crew, local authorities and EMT. Now when that situation occurs the "designated" person with a phone heads out with grid in hand, therefore when pilot or whoever radios or calls into the "designated" communicator (usually manifest in our case) of a location he can call the searcher. Person found quickly and with no confusion. Just some ideas that might be helpful, organize it to your DZ needs. Hope you recover fast, I know what you are going through I shoved the fib-tib out the side and bottom of my foot. Blue skies and keep jumping.

Mine is Schrimsher German and I believe it comes from Schrimshaw (the carving of ivory) Up until 2004 I never met anyone with the same last name. What was so great about this person was that he saw my name in Parachutist and contacted me. He was starting AFF in Co. One year later I wen't to Mile -hi for a boogie and we met, he had about 50-60 jumps so I organized his 1st 8 way and we made a jump together. Since I love jumping with the newbies this was an honor for me.

Vladimir talks like he has had some formal engineering education. He should be embarrassed. I do know he is an engineer and a pilot. I am not defending the details of what you say, but I sort of took that video as a way to simply explain basic aerodynamics, by explaining "wind hits you, it moves you?? Its been 2-3 years since I have seen it though. He is also the one that invented the Vladi ball. I thought that was pretty clever, a ball that looses it load if it goes low. Pretty safe device.

Yes I have met a few Pioneers in my time and I would have to say that they all tend to be that way. Very helpful and a true love for the sport. www.skyfestboogie.com

Wind Tunnel in Houston??????
upndownshop replied to chuckakers's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
[reply But now that I am moving I think it should be in the Dallas area. -
We saw him last weekend out at Z hills. He seems to be doing well. Got to love those Pioneers.

Dennis is a fun one that is for sure. He used to babysit us manhy years ago. He always got us in trouble when my parents returned. (hey I have to blame someone, right). I left Seagoville around 84 and moved to Houston, my sister continued to jump there for a while, in fact she met her now 15 year husband, Bob Tomany. I enjoy the hell out of the old stuff to. What memories Blus skies J

Not to be harsh as this may sound but: Uncurrent skydivers are dead skydivers. No this is not to say that you will die, but you certainly put yourself at a higher risk. The membership is only once a year, but your currency is monthly. Maybe your timing isn't right for jumping now. Don't think I am trying to talk you out of jumping, that goes against everything I do in regards to this sport, but I would rather you and others stay safe. To put something off for now and being able to go all out later and be safe is probably worth the wait. My first jump was in 1984, I averaged 10 jumps a year, scared to death each time, I took things for granted (especially being born into the sport) and always questioned myself as to why I was doing it. It wasn't till 2001 that I got back into it and made 900 jumps in two years, finally I feel like a skydiver and very safe and confident. maybe keep your membership current so you can stay informed through Parachutist, and a monthly reminder of your goals. Please be careful in your decision, lives depend on it. I wish you well, and hope it works out for you.

Russell How bout this challange, what was that DZ's name, John Berke (father of Jack Berke, Deguello) ran it, we did a novice meet there in 1976 I packed 40 T-10's in one day at 10 years old. I remember I raised my price for that event from $.50 to $1.00 a pack job. I worked my ass off. Springcreek thats it. It was half way between Houston and Dallas? Any clues?

I put a couple of lawyers out on square canopy static lines the weekend before I went off to law school in 1985. It's my belief that those two were the very first FJC SL on square parachutes in Texas. One of them, Bubba, became an active jumper. The water was not there when it was open. Mr. Webb and Mr. Felts, how the hell are ya'll? Russell, thanks for posting that pic, I haven't seen Seagoville since probably 1986. God I loved those days! You remember Matt MacMantis(sp?)? Stan & I were always helping him get his shit out of that pond at the end of the runway, thats when he picked up the nickname Snakepit! As you probably know he went on to become a Golden Knight and became an Accuracy Champion. Would love to see him and remind him of his nickname. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. Oh and Russell not to rain on your story, but I just posted this week about my first jump on 12-12-1984 with a Static lined Square. I know that Bob Chaffin and Jerry had been putting out students for a while before they put me out. I wonder how long Max lived for? Man, could he slobber? If ya'll remember these two Dennis Dorris is back in Texas, him and "Condo" Richard Whitehill are cruzn on their Harley's these days. Hope you guys are doing well. www.skyfestboogie.com

Are you sure that it wasn't? SD Dallas use to be directly under thier flight line, Lee Schlictmeir (sp?) fought hard and got it moved 2 mile East. We are constantly communicating with them and exiting around them. You can see the DZ coming into to Dallas. AggieDave: Gainsville is open but not for jumping. That would be a great place to, its a shame they had so much fun and got kicked out.

See I knew it could be done Thanks I am sure she will appreciate that.

I don't know the process, but I bet you could hook a camcorder to the tape deck (RCA cables) and record it then take it to the computer and burn the disc?? Not sure if you would need to put it in a "movie maker" program but I bet it could be done. Thats realy cool, the 60's footage we found after my father passed is great, we get to hear his voice whenever. Cool stuff from Grandpa.
