  1. The main landing area is for up to 180 hooks. The "back yard" is for whatever you want. Careful with that field, it is mowed with a tractor so it can have some "ruts" in it. The front yard is really nice. Make sure you have someone take you to the "Dusty Saddle" or better known to the jumpers as the Crusty Saddle. If yuo are there on Sunday nite it is White trash chicken nite at the crusty on Sunday.....don't ask just go. You will have plenty of FF's to play with. They are closed Tue tru Thurs. Tell every I said hello for me J
  2. Bill You have some very momentous items and I admire that you want to share. Since my father passed away in 2000 my brother and I have started a fund raiser known as the Jerry Schrimsher Skydiving Scholarship Fund (JSF) the money is raised from an annual event known as SkyFest. The money is for upcoming and experienced jumpers that are dedicated to the sport and want to continue their education through additional coaching or obtaining a coaches/instructors rating. We are entering our fifth year and we have given out 33 skydiving scholarships across Texas DZ's over the past 4 years. For more info please go to: www.skyfestboogie.com He had 41 years in the sport jumping every weekend possible starting in 1959 and ending Oct. 2000. It was his first love. I went through the 13 logbooks that Jerry left and it is amazing what he wrote. After his death I spent countless hours going through his stuff and boxes of slides he took in the 60's. I even found 3 reels of 16mm shot back in 1968 of skydiving and news interviews. We made an hour long DVD with the photos and vintage footage to keep some of the history recorded. I discovered that we are only missing two issues of Parachutist since it started. I have taken a great interest in skydiving history since his death, and would be honored to have a log book. I think Keith "Bigun" has a good idea, (not that I am turning one down) but I believe the USPA museum is still in the works and that is where I will be sending both of my parents "pieces of history" too when the time is right. Hope all is well and I thank you for your contribution to the sport over the years, I know we wouldn't be where we are with out people like your self and all the other Pioneers of the sport. Blue Skies Jerry J Schrimsher II
  3. Sun Path for the Javelin Odyssey is now down to 14 weeks. No really....14 weeks! That new spacer foam for the back pad is awesome and it also runs all the way through the leg straps for only $100.00USD. www.sunpath.com Happy hunting!!
  4. I'll second that for Melstar. I have worked with her a couple of times at/for boogies and she is the sweetest person. Her sis Ali as well. Mel seems to have that way of making everyone she meets feel welcome and comfortable immediately. She never has a negative thing to say about anyone. Both of them will always have a warm place in my heart. The PMS is also a reflection of their care and concern for people and the sport as well. Keep smiling girls, you rock!!
  5. What year Sabre is it? If it is around the early 90's it probably has a smaller size slider on it. They changed to a larger size after a couple of years of production of the original Sabre. On the PC, what container is it in? If it is a Javelin J1 then you will want a 33" F-11. If not I would at least get rid of the ZP PC. PD nor Sun Path recommend ZP for PC's anymore. Call PD they will hook you up. Good Luck
  6. From what I have learned working closely with PD the Katana is a step after the Stiletto then the Velo. I have heard nothing of the Stiletto being discontinued. I was informed that the 135and 150 Katana are in the works. The challenge is geting the larger sizes flying like the current production sizes. Thats my .02$ worth
  7. Do you remember the "Greatest American Hero" tv show. The theme song, what was its name It went Believe it or not, I'm walking on air Never thought I could feel so free Flying away like a ?wing? on a ?prayer? Believe it or no its just me.
  8. I thought I would drop a line on this. Maybe this is really stupid but here goes. I am all for the jokes and relaxing the passenger, but this is my thought. Cameraman is doing ground interview, jokes are made such as "hey TM what color pills did you take today?" or they video the back of the harness (warning label) etc..or loose threads (fraying) and make some comment that it will make it one more jump. The TM tells passenger to tell him a funny joke and everytime he doesn't laugh you lose one attachment point. Here is my question....Can that video or the comments be used in court if some unfortunate accident occurs? Thus resulting in UA's, lawsuits, or what ever the courts might request. Do we need to make jokes about "death" or accidents to relax the student???? I am not a lawyer or TM and I am not saying that this it is wrong to makes these jokes. Please understand this is just a question not a statement.
  9. Give him a Death Certificate completely filled out with his name on it, just leave the date blank or ??
  10. I watched in amazement one day as a whole load of students got off of the Porter at Skydive Texas, with their reserve pilot chutes in their hands. The pilot and the jumpmaster didn't properly communicate prior to the airplane descending. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> All of those are true except the part of communication. The Instructor (a CFI himself) tried to slow the pilot down, but no luck. I wont post it here but what happened after on the ground is why the instructor never returned to that DZ again. Not that it makes any difference to this thread just had to defend my father (the instructor). I'll PM you. Great topic for discussion, good question.
  11. From my own experiences, I would take a broken leg over any ankle injury again. I shoved the tib/fib out the bottom and side of my foot, literally shattered my ankle. Still swollen 11 years later. Pain everyday. I have seen my brother bust both femurs at the same time, twice had double compounds to the fib/tib 4"s apart from the original, blown out his knee(same leg) and compound his left arm. He was always walking shortly after the repairs. I guess what I am saying is that I believe that breaking a bone is better than breaking something in a joint, especially in the ankle where the technology isn't the same with hips, knees, or elbows for replacement. If you can imagine it happening in Skydiving....It can. Do whats important to you, the Skies will always be there...
  12. I actually had an opportunity to think about this in August. I moved to Z hills, unloaded my stuff into a friends storage unit (meaning no insurance for my stuff)and left for Rantoul that night. The last weekend of Rantoul Hurricane Charley was due to hit to Zhills. All i could think about was my cameras and photos. My second rig was in there but that didn't seem to be to important. So to choose one I would have to say the photos. These are family photos that include a ton of skydiving history dating back to the early sixties. Three reels of 16mm footage containing jumps, Channel 8 news interview of my father, and footage of Raquel Welch at 22 years old with my father presenting her with a bikini swimsuit. Charley never hit Zhills, but the next 3 hurricanes always had me nervous, I could not purchase renters insurance for my stuff until after the season. Interesting, they raised my auto insurance by $100.00 but wouldn't sell me renters?? Z hills Turkey Meet rocked this weekend!!!
  13. Ahh thats makes sense, I think you got it. Can you imagine being the last guy out and seeing all those canopies? Had to be an awesome view.
  14. I am confused by your statement. The 572 happened in 99 (my 64 year old father was on it), Eloy (300 way Free fall) didn't happen until 2002?? The recent record in 2004 was the second Mass Record Jump. Either way what a hell of a jump!!
  15. It was for the most number of open canopies in the air at the same time. The 572 record was set on the kings(I thik it was the Kings) 72nd birthday, I forget what the numbers represented the second time. They are very superstitious so all the numbers represent something. Both these records were set during the World Team Record attempts (B. J. Worth and Company). Feb. 2004 set the 357 way. I wasn't there so I am sure that someone who was, can fill in the gaps..

  23. The older G3's had a slight design flaw. We discovered that the main pin protection cover on the older G3's was sewn on top which leaves a corner right where the bridle would lay upon closing thus creating a snag point. That "sharp" edge with the binding tape and codura is pretty stiff. We were able to pick the rig up by the bridle and the pin remain in place thus creating a pc hesitation. We usually only found this when people were putting larger mains in them making the container "tight" to close. The newer G3's have the main cover sewn underneath and therefore leaving no snag points for the bridle. I believe the change was made in 2003??? Hope this helps, not saying it is the problem just FYI.
