Not only that, but there are several ships, 2 kinds of fighters and a freighter in the immediate vicinity of the explosion that were completely unaffected. That is clear evidence that the photos were altered. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo

Isn't PC well established when you crash into a tree? PC for OWI? Not from a simple crash into a tree. The cops will certainly look at you closely, smell your breath and all that, but if they blood/breath tested everyone who hit a tree, then they wouldn't have time to do anything else. Somebody else was asking about pics of the accident, it was on TMZ. Now they are saying that it was a domestic dispute TMZ again Edit to add: Once again, AggieDave beat me to it "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Funny they never mentioned whether he was actually given a breathalyzer or blood test for alcohol. I know if any of us plowed into a tree in residential neighborhood that would be SOP. Not necessarily. AggieDave can answer this best, but AFAIK they take your overall "appearance", including speech, balance (how steady you stand), level of coherence, smell, and probably a bunch of other stuff to evaluate whether or not you might be under the influence. Then they pull out the "Stupid Human Tricks". All that is used as probable cause to require a blood/breath test. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Don't forget about the recent insulation applications in the Death Star. It would have been very easy to substitute "Nano-Thermite" for the insulation. That explosion was way too big to just be the central reactor. There had to be more to it than just that. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Like others have said, usually a solid high-visibilty color. No pilot chute trailing behind "Squarer" due to aspect ratio (although I jump a 7-cell as a main, so it is the same as my reserve). Usually my biggest clue is the cutaway main and the reserve pilot chute/freebag fluttering down near the open canopy. Either that or watching the entire malfunction-to-cutaway sequence as it happens. At that point several people usually spread out as far as they can to get bearings on the loose gear to make finding it as easy as possible. On the ground it's real easy. Empty 3-rings, open reserve container and extended reserve risers. Oh yeah, and the hole in the slider. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Another variation of that is something my wife catches all the time grocery shopping...the price of the item as marked isn't the price the scanner at the check-out shows. We shop at 2 or 3 grocery stores in town, they all seem to have that 'problem'...complaining to the management only results in getting the right price right then, nobody changes anything so the next person buying that item also gets overcharged. An occasionall oversight is understandable, but this happens more often than not. It seems to be on-going and a planned profit generator. Yep, I have this happen on an occasional basis too. I'd be more willing to believe it is an honest mistake if the overcharges didn't outnumber the undercharges by about 10:1 "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." My most sincere condolences. I'm coming up on 4 years since my dad died. There are very few days that I don't think about him in some way. Mainly wishing I could ask him for help, or to show him something I know he would like. I don't know if the pain has faded, or if I've just gotten used to it, but it does get better. I'm now able to remember him with a smile. Especially when seeing something I know he would rant about. The one thing you must do is keep your friends close. Don't try to be "strong", you aren't strong enough. Lean on them when you need to. That's what friends are for

Maybe because the damage to the vehicle and Tiger's injuries are more consistent with a domestic dispute than a simple car crash. Word on ESPN is that FHP is seeking a warrant to get the doctor's report to try to determine what injuries he sustained. And I agree with Andy. I wouldn't say anything to the cops either. It looks a lot like his wife went after him. If so, she could be in a good bit of trouble. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Or because the threat posed by illegal border crossers (including the druggies) doesn't justify the level of force the mines represent. 4 cops shot dead at a coffeee house in Washington State
wolfriverjoe replied to Lucky...'s topic in Speakers Corner
...The other thing to think about is that these officers probably went to this coffee shop all the time. They were relaxed there, they knew the staff well as well as most of the regular patrons who typically came in day to day at similar times. Then also note that it is mentally and physically taxing to be at a high level of alert all the time. Although I'm not saying that these guys were in condition white or weren't tactically sound. Reaction is much slower than action and the suspect was probably able to get off 4-5 shot before any one could get cover or even start to draw their weapons. I would be curious to know if the officers had body armor on. I'm a huge believer in body armor always being worn while in uniform... ...That incident is an example of even at the place where you live, where you should be able to relax the most, it can still be dangerous. One thing I got out of the story is that the bad guy entered the shop, walked up to the counter, then turned, pulled out the gun and opened fire. Although far from perfect, I try to maintain "condition Yellow" as much as possible. I make a habit of sitting where I can see the door (and having 2 directions to exit) whenever possible. I make it a habit to give a quick look to anyone who walks in. But I am not paranoid enough to try to keep track of everyone in the place all the time. These officers may well have noticed the guy walk in, given him a quick look, and when he didn't present an immediate threat, went back to whatever they were doing. I don't see it in the current story, but I think I had read earlier that they were wearing body armor. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Should Catholic Church Punish Pro-Abortion Rights Govt Officials?
wolfriverjoe replied to Andy9o8's topic in Speakers Corner
"Do as I say and not as I do" seems to be the R-C motto. There is a big difference between doctrine and what the officials of the church actually do. Child molestation is not in the R-C catechism for sure, but not only is it commonplace in your church, it has also been routinely covered up by your church. I think "commonplace" is a gross overstatement. It doesn't happen often, just that when it is revealed, it gets major press coverage. And even more coverage because of the clear complicity of the upper levels of the church in the coverup. They seem more interested in protecting themselves and their image than protecting the children of their "flock". Which I find well beyond horrendous. And it's one of the reasons I no longer attend the church. FWIW, I grew up R-C. I was even an altar boy. Never got propositioned by the priest, nor did anyone I ever knew. As long as it isn't: A) a surprise B) placed on a sensitive area I'm cool with that. I always used to warm my ex's feet up between my lower legs.

4 cops shot dead at a coffeee house in Washington State
wolfriverjoe replied to Lucky...'s topic in Speakers Corner
Not Dave, but... How do soldiers get ambushed? Same principle. Not making a joke about this situation, but there was an HBO movie back in 1990, a western/comedy with Lou Gossett Jr and Anthony Edwards called El Diablo. Lou Gosset Jr played an old, experienced gunfighter. He gave the best way to win a gunfight I ever heard. "Square off, look the man straight in the back and shoot him before he knows you are there." That's just about what happened here. The cops were sitting in a coffee shop, working on their laptops, when this guy opened fire. The first one or two probably never knew what hit them. The others probably had just enough time to realize what was happening, but not enough time to come to a defensive posture. Most cops don't train all that much. Although some are very good, many aren't. I've shot with a few at my local range (I'm a range officer, and a couple of the local departments train there). I'm better than most of them, at least on the firing range. How it would be in the real world would be a different situation. On the range, ready and waiting, it takes me about 1.5 seconds to draw and fire two shots. I'm not bad, the real pro competition shooters with "race guns" and holsters can do it in about 3/4 sec. Add on recognition and reaction time and it's at least 2 or 3 seconds under the best of circumstances. If I already have my weapon out, I can put 2 shots into each of 4 closely spaced targets in that time without too much trouble. It's also a mental game. These cops weren't expecting any trouble, so they weren't "on guard". Being mentally prepared for an ambush is the best defense against one, but nobody is capable of maintaining that level of alertness constantly, mainly because there isn't a need to. Anybody, civilian or cop, who gets into a quick-draw shootout has gotten in a bad situation. The places and times when an armed person can make a difference is not when they are facing the armed criminal, but when they have a chance to get the drop on the bad guy. Think about the last bank scene in Point Break. If the Ex-presidents hadn't been wearing body armor, the off duty cop would have had a halfway decent chance of being a hero. I know perfectly well that movies aren't real life, but I know you are in the industry, and I'm trying to give references that are at least close to realistic. Realistically, in a mass shooting situation, (if I was armed) I'd work a rear guard position to protect the escape of others, possibly setting an ambush up so that if the bad guy came into my field of fire, I'd be able to take him out. If I was sitting in the food court when the bad guy opened fire, I wouldn't have too much chance unless he started off shooting away from me. There is absolutely no way I'd go towards a shooting situation unless I had no other choice (like a family member waiting in the food court while I was elsewhere). Being armed isn't a magic solution to any attack, it just provides a means of defense if you have time to use it. Edit to add: In the time I thought out my post, Dave replied. I have no argument with anything he said. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo -

Look closely at the order form. Bank Americard. Master Charge Carte Blanche Does that give you an idea how old the ad is? Or how old I am? Not to mention $3.50 S&H and 6% CA sales tax. wolfriverjoe replied to hcsvader's topic in The Bonfire
dumb question im sure, but what do they mean? a quit smoking tattoo by chance? Not a dumb question, just one that indicates you haven't learned how to pack yet. Rubber bands are used for line stows. I think it's a little odd, but way cool. Better than a closing pin for a "secret symbol" But you should have used silibands if you wanted them to last for any length of time "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Noob. Wants to have another go. Best approach?
wolfriverjoe replied to Pele2048's topic in Safety and Training
Many people experience "sensory overload" on their 1st jump. Your mind simply cannot process what is happning. That's one of the reasons a lot of DZs have a "Tandem to AFF" progression. You'll do a lot better the 2nd time. The AFF 1st jump course will cover the correct pull procedure. Rent gear at first. Student gear has some special features that sport gear doesn't. You will also be going from a huge beginner canopy through several sizes of student canopies to where you will want to be for your first rig. Rental costs vary. Usually they are included in the student jump prices. As was said above, when you get close to your A license, you will start to look for your first rig. Your instructors and the local rigger should help you pick out an appropriate first rig. Packing is a requirment for your license. You can start learning as early as you want. Some DZs discount the rental price if you pack it yourself (mine takes off the $5 we pay the packer). Watch the packers, talk to the instructors, packers, riggers, and even the regular jumpers. That's one of the biggest reasons for the "Beer Rules". If you bought the beer, you should be able to corner them and pick their brains for knowledge (Pele piper picked the pickled packer's brain?) If I am reading your post correctly, you want to know as much as possible about your gear. Good!!! Far too many students just think "I'll pay a packer, why should I need to know anything about it?" Knowing how your gear is set up and works is important for both finding problems on the ground, and for dealing with them when they happen. If you're the mechanic type, you may even want to pursue your rigger rating. That's an FAA license to be a "parachute mechanic" (more or less). It is a seperate thing from your A-license. It is a boatload of knowledge and skills that (IMHO) will help you be a better jumper because of the gear familairity. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." I don't think it "disproves that basic physical concept" as much as it demonstrates the complexity of the earth's system. More CO2 should result in greater heat retention, less polar ice should too (greater dark areas). BUT more particulate pollution in the air results in less solar radiation reaching the ground, replacing dark rainforest/jungle areas with lighter colored cropfields can reduce both absorbtion rates due to color and water vapor levels. There was a concern a few years ago about the "Brown Cloud" of pollution over the Indian Ocean (mostly from slash & burn agriculture and the two-stroke engines in SE Asia). The worry was that the cloud would reduce the solar energy reaching the water, which would reduce the evaporation levels, which would result in much lower rainfall during the monsoon season in India. How much of the "Ice Age Fears" from the late 70's/early 80's was a result of air pollution reducing the solar energy that reached the ground? And how much of the big upsurge in temps was the result of cleaning up the air in the 80's and 90's? (look at the air quality in the LA basin for a dramatic example of this). I really don't know enough to answer these questions. But I'm a little disturbed that nobody on either side of the AGW debate seems to be giving them any thought. The AGW crowd is screaming "The sky is falling" and the Antis are "Burying their heads in the sand". Hopefully the "real" scientists are working to incorporate all the factors into their models. I've always loved that movie. I was sad to see the "Hearse Jag" destroyed. I thought that was a way cool car (yes, I understand the symbolism). I did, however, like that the car didn't explode on impact. I also loved the "suicides" Bud Cort did. Especially the one when his mother introduced him to the actress who (after checking to see the knife was spring-loaded) did the Juliet soliloquy (sp?). And then his mim walked in. Is it just me, or does that dog not look all that happy? It could very well be used to it, but being stuffed into a bag and hung off a soldier's back doesn't sound all that fun to me. Not quite. Bigger tractor and a 53' van trailer (although the trailer tandems were slid all the way up). Look at what Swift, or Schnieder or JB Hunt run. I did it on a Tuesday morning in late fall so there wasn't much traffic, and the leaves had fallen so I could see around some of the corners. Still it was probably the stupidest thing that I ever did that had no consequences. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit."
