Recruiting at other dropzones?
wolfriverjoe replied to Gary73's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'm also aware of calls being made to other area dropzones warning of a jumper being advised not to do something. The jumper had said something to the effect of "Fine, if you guys aren't going to let me do XXX, then I'll just go to YYY DZ." "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." And you have almost admitted to committing insurance fraud on a public internet website. You might want to think about that. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo

It could be worse. I think the furnace (oil burner) flooded out. The reset light is blinking, and hitting the reset button got the pump to start, but it won't fire. The furnace guy shold be here soon. The oven has the kitchen up to about 55, and it's up to -8 outside. And you're right. At least I have coffee
-
Yeah. It's Thursday and I woke up to an inside temp of 50 and a furnace that won't fire up. And it's -12 outside. (12 Degrees below zero). Called the furnace company, turned the (electric) oven on low with the door open and started coffee. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Emphasis mine. I am occasionally asked why my log entries are often a paragraph or more. By logging the details (names of all the jumpers, points planned, points made) of jumps, I have documentation of jumps that meet requirements of both my B and C licenses (I still have to get my %#@&*&% water training). One good reason to log each and every jump, in detail. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo

Recruiting at other dropzones?
wolfriverjoe replied to Gary73's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Is "recruiting" a simple invite to "come join us at XYZ sometime"? Or is it "OUR DZ is so much better than this dump". And are you talking about fun jumpers or students? Inviting fun jumpers to "come out to our place some time" is fine IMO - I've done it and seen it done at my DZ. I don't compare the places, or go after students, nor would I consider it appropriate if others did it. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." I've been amazed at how close a hawk will allow me to get. If they have a good "out", they don't seem to mind me being within 8-10 ft. They are far more interested in eating than fleeing. Of course, they have some pretty serious talons with which to defend themselves if they feel threatened. We have a variety of hawks and quite a few bald eagles around here. The paper mill in town keeps the river from freezing over, so we end up with upwards of 25 pairs of bald eagles wintering in the area. Since the mills stopped polluting the river, the fish (and birds of prey) have come back nicely. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Show Your True Colors At Last: Cindy Sheehan, COMMUNIST
wolfriverjoe replied to a topic in Speakers Corner
So what ? Have we gone so far to the right that there's no room for lefties to even speak or be heard ? Also, it simply doesn't follow that she would "loathe" her son. Plenty of parents still love children who make life choices other than what the parent would've wanted. She still lost her son, she IS entitled to grieve, isn't she ? I have no problem with her grieving. I have very little problem with her blaming GWB for her son's death, protesting outside the ranch in Texas or the other stunts she pulled (although most seemed to be for media attention more than anything else). She has the right to speak her mind, publicly and without government retaliation, which is what happened. I found it very ironic that she went to Venezuela and publicly praised (worshipped almost) Hugo Chavez. Chavez loved her because of her criticism of GWB. But (and here is the irony) any Venezuelan who criticizes Chavez experiences severe government sactions. Including confiscation of personal property and businesses, loss of jobs and jail. And Cindy Sheehan loved him. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo -
For me forgiving means letting go of the resentments and hatred. It doesn't mean I approve of the behavior. It doesn't mean I will allow it to continue. It may or may not mean I will allow that person to remain in my life. It is especially hard to do when I know the person did it deliberately to hurt me, and has no remorse for their actions. It is much easier to do when I realize that the person is sick and not in full control of their actions. It is very easy to do when the person realizes how their actions hurt me and are remorseful. But holding onto those resentments and hatred hurt me. I've heard it described as "holding onto a hot coal and hoping the other person gets burned." YMMV

How about a Sharp Shinned Hawk? We have a lot of them around me. They do a pretty good job keeping the mournng doves in check. I have neighbors that finally gave up putting the bird feeders back up after the hawks kept taking them down. I always called them "Hawk food feeders" "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo

Oh, and that's alright with me

I have it. First off, I really enjoy my job (most of the time anyway). Second, I have a schedule that fits me very well. I drive truck, and have a week on/week off deal. I jump in the truck on Saturday and road trip all over the country for a week, I am (usually) home Friday afternoon, and have the entire following week off. I share the truck with another driver who does the opposite week. It has it's drawbacks, winter isn't always fun (like last week ), but it sure beats working for a living With that schedule, I don't make a whole lot of money, but I live cheap, and as a pilot and rigger/packer my jumps costs are usually covered by the work that I do. The only real problem is that even with every other week off, I still don't have enough time to get everything done (maybe I shouldn't spend quite as much time on here as I do ). The lowest temperature at which NaCl/H2O can remain liquid is -21.2C or -6.15F. Mr Fahrenheit's reference temp wasn't a sodium chloride salt water mix, it was an ammonium chloride salt water mix. Geez! do your research! Ok, thanks (both of you) for the correction. I had always thought it was a NaCl solution. Edit to add: That doesn't change the fact that there was a valid freezing point for zero F. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Jeans need to fit the body. Period. Snug, but not too tight. Form fitting, not form changing. Skinny jeans look good on a body that they fit well. They don't look good on a body they don't fit well. If your body fits the boot cut jeans well, then they are the ones for you. (Pics would be nice so that we can all make the assessment about them

If you liked the people and atmosphere where you went before, go back. You could check out the other DZs in the area, but beware of what they say about each other. My understanding (which may or may not be right) is that they don't like each other very much. AFP and AFF are fairly similar. You won't notice any difference. Everything you need for the first few jumps will be provided. All you need to bring is money, a good attitude and some courage. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." That had nothing to do with the RSL. If it's the one I'm thinking of (Was the instructor screaming "Where's the hook knife?") it was a static line hang up. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo

Just out of curiostiy, what constitutes a French "First Class Medical"? What level of pilot certificate is it used for? Here in the US: 3rd Class - Student and Private Pilots 2nd Class - Commercial Pilots 1st Class - Airline Transport Pilots Obviously the higher the class, the more stringent the requirements. Personally, I have to renew my 2nd Class every year to be able to fly jumpers (Commercial Pilot). I can see a valid reason for TIs to have to pass some sort of physical exam on a regular basis. I also think that TIs should have mandatory recurrency training, similar to the Biennial Flight Review required for pilots. The 3rd Class is probably the simplest and most appropriate of the FAA medical exams. I understand Ozzy13 is having a lot of probems getting his, and the degree to which a doctor can arbitrarily fail an applicant is a real issue here. The Doritos ones were pretty good. I didn't know Doritos dust would bring Grandpa back to life The Bridgestone ones were pretty good too. The "Beaver" one was my favorite. The Bud Light ones really sucked. There are a number of movies coming out this year that I may have to go see. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Just so you know, Fahrenheit is based on something fairly concrete. Yes, 100 degrees was supposed to be human body temp, and got screwed up. But zero is based on the lowest possible temp that salt water can remain liquid. You know what salt water is right? The majority of the water on the earth is salt water. Ok, I had to look up "Groom's Cake" to find out what the hell it was. I had horrible visions of your Bride-to-be insisting that the "official" wedding cake was hers and that you would have to make do with your own cake. My idea, FWIW - The local grocery store has a pretty decent bakery. The have the ability to laser-print (in edible ink) any picture onto the top of a cake. You can get a simple sheet cake, have any (non-copyrighted) photo printed onto white icing for a very reasonable price. A friend was accepted into the FBI last summer, and for her going away party, we had a reasonable copy of an FBI ID (with her picture) printed onto a cake. It turned out quite well. You could have someone take a picture of you on approach, or even in freefall and have that put on a cake. Easy and cheap. (At this point in the planning, those are probably 2 fairly important considerations ) "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Who pays for what, under what circumstances, should be agreed to before the canopy is shipped. "What" includes the inspection and the shipping. "Circumstances" includes passing the inspection or failing the inspection. Personally, if I was the buyer, I would agree to pay for the inspection, pass or fail. I would expect the seller to pay shipping to the factory, and return shipping if it failed. Again, I would work all this out with the seller before it was shipped out. My SQ1 and Para-Gear catalogs both list it. When I took the course at Para-Concepts (SDC) in 09 it was available there (I had it on the 'puter, so I didn't buy it). I was told that RI was paid a "substantial" amount of money for producing it, but I don't have, nor do I know where to find an exact amount. If it makes the woman feel sexier, prettier, more desirable, more confident, more willing to attack me (in a good way ), then great. I'll even pay for them. For me, I'm more interested in what's under them.
