  1. Military brass has the primer crimped in. You have to either ream or swage the crimp out after the brass is deprimed. It's a pain. The better (read: more expensive) ARs have good triggers. The lesser ones have the "standard" trigger. Not super heavy, but creepy and it isn't smooth creep, either. A good after-market trigger is going to be a couple hundred bucks. Replacing them is usually a matter of knocking out a couple pins, pulling the trigger, sear and hammer out and replacing them with the aftermarket unit (most of the good ones are pre-assembled and come as a single piece). 2. I don't feel ashamed about it. I usually spend a few minutes considering the implications of what I write before I click on 'post'. I can only control what I post. I have no control over what others post. There is a lot of garbage there. There's some downright nasty stuff. Even more really, really stupid stuff. The mods do a pretty good job keeping the Incidents forum clear of it (Note that the Jeb Corliss incident thread has about half of the posts removed) but there's still some "not very nice" stuff in there. Sometimes the conclusion "He was an idiot and earned his injuries" isn't very nice. But it is often true. Because this is a free and open site, there are a lot of posers, pretenders and flat out trolls on here (some of the trolls are real skydivers too). And because it's an internet site, there are a lot of idiots who will say stuff that they wouldn't have the balls to say in person. All you have to do is not read their posts, and not respond to them. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 3. Boogie? I thought it was THIS. I can't believe a nationwide news story about a porn star hasn't shown up here yet. (link is a news article and is SFW) "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo

  5. You claim it as your ("our") neighborhood, but in the previous post claim to be visiting from Florida. Which is it? And if you find airplane noise to be "obnoxious", then why did you buy a house right by the airport? "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 6. Because they are so far from the center of the timezone that their clocks are already messed up, and going to DST makes it worse. Indiana sees sunsets well after 9 pm in high summer. They see sunrises after 8 in early winter. I don't know the details about AZ, but I guess it's a similar deal. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 7. Of course he is lying and taking undeserved credit. He's a politician. That's what they do. The oil boom is a direct result of the high prices. The cost (both money wise and energy wise) of extraction in the Alberta "oil sands" (also known as "tar sands") is incredibly high. If the price of oil dropped signifcantly (below about $75 per barrel IIRC) that entire boom would just stop. That oil was known to exist for years. It simply wasn't economically viable to extract it. Which is true (with certain exceptions made for environmental protection) for all oil exploration and new production today. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 9. It used to be that most of Indiana didn't change their clocks. They'd be on Central time in the winter and Eastern time in the summer. It kept sunrise from getting too late (like after 7:30). For reasons I never heard, they have since gone to Eastern, and now do DST and clock changes. Which mean sunrise doesn't happen until nearly 8 in early winter. 10. Do Nicaraguan jails have Wi-Fi? No. But he can call Amazon and once she gets on a plane... President Ortega will be happy to release them in her custody. 14. The young asian man (he was actually a teenager) had been heavily drugged and a hole had been drilled into his head. He was barely capable of getting out of the apartment and was not capable of walking away, let alone punching the cops. And Dahmer was very persuasive and charming. A Wisconsin thing, right? 17. #1 - Stingers are useful for things other than bringing down planes. That's their primary function, but they can be used against any heat generating target. They'd be pretty useful against a "soft" vehicle, or on a noisy bonfire party #2 - Heller, while affirming the 2nd as an individual right and stating self defense as a legitimate reason for the possesion of arms, did allow for reasonable limitations. Free speech has the same restrictions. While not stated in the opinion (AFAIK, I haven't read the whole thing), I think the level of "personal" weapons is a reasonable level. But what kind of personal weapons? The Stinger is a one-man weapon. It helps to have an assistant, but it isn't necessary. And the bigger Machine guns are considered "crew-served." even the lowly M-60 was considered an 2 man operation. And those are legal to own if you are willing to jump through all the NFA hoops. There is a push from the "rock & roll" community (machine gun owners) to get NFA 1934 repealed. The Miller descison about "Milita Weapons" should have nullified it (and would have if other events hadn't taken place). And last - Don't forget about the battle of Lexington and Concord. The Brits went there to destroy the large weapons (crew served cannon and supplies to operate them) of the local milita. Collectively owned by the local citizens. 18. Just looked at some prices No kidding But I was taught that rule of thumb for a hunting rifle is that the optics will cost as much as the rifle itself. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  19. Can you provide a link to her post? Was she using the bungee? No and no. The incident gets mentioned occasionally when this discussion comes up. Right now she and her husband are down in Nicaragua getting drunk and running amok. She is a former gymnast and very flexible. She found herself hanging by her knees and armpits after opening. No "butt strap." To the OP: If you insist on a strap, one can be made easily. Most jumpers are satisfied with a simple bungee made from shock cord. All you need is the little loops on your legstrap pads. Most new rigs have them already. If not, it's 5 minutes with a bartack machine to make and attach them. Talk to your local rigger to see what your options are. Edit to change from legstraps to legstrap pads. Duh. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 20. Isn't "Prince Charming" more of a title than a name? Like Prince Charles is the "Prince of Wales." He's not the first to hold that title, and probably won't be the last. It's not the same guy in each story. It's just guys who all have the same title. Maybe simultaneously, maybe not. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 21. It's going up the ass of the people too dumb to realize that these kind of hearings are very much political theater. Cast carefully chosen, testimony carefully scripted. 22. #1 - A pilot chute has a lot more than 14# of pull. #2 - My understanding (and I welcome correction from those who really know what they're talking about if I am wrong) is that the 8-12 is a balance between enough to hold it in place securely, but not too much to prevent it from deploying smoothly. More holdlng force would cause the D-bag to bounce around a lot (or a lot more than it does already). Which could cause issues well before being tight enough to cause a bag lock. 23. Well, reasonable restrictions were noted in Heller. The big problem is going to be defining "reasonable." And usually the way it is defined is that the goverment makes a law, someone gets caught breaking and convicted, and then the appeals process runs it's course. Which means some poor sap gets to be the "test subject." There's an interesting grey area regarding the Post Office. Although Federal Laws are specific about committing crimes with weapons, there is a section permitting weapons on Post Office property "for lawful purposes." The Postal authorities ignore the sections about "lawful purpose" when they post the Post Offices as "weapons prohibited." Which is in direct violation of the law about not ignoring sections of the Federal code. (I have the sections numbers and exact wording in a book, but it's not close by right now and I don't feel like getting up ) I'm not willing to be the one to find out which way this would go in a court case. And until someone either makes a stupid mistake or is willing to be a martyr for the cause this will remain a grey area. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 24. It isn't about ownership. It's about carry permits. Many of the states that had carry permit laws before the recent wave of new laws had "discretionary issue" permits. California, New York, New Jersey, Puerto Rico and a few others. The issuing agency (usually local law enforcement like the sheriff or police chief) get to decide if you "deserve" a carry permit. They can deny you for any reason... Or no reason. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  25. But we all do it. NPR had a story on that this morning. Scroll down a bit in the link to the part just after the poll question to read about how we see others, both those on our "side" and those on the opposing side. Identical behavior is viewed differently depending on who's side the actor is on. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit."
