Skymamma beat me to it, but it isn't insulting if you don't consider it an insult now is it? I've had people look at me and say "You're nuts!" Intending it as an accusation or insult. My usual response is something like "Yeah, and your point is???" Or "you're just figuring this out now?" "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." They are budgeting a lot for satellites because the satellites that are up there are old. Many of them have gone well beyond their planned lifetime. Some are pretty close to failure (their solar cells are degrading and it won't be too long before they don't have enough power to operate). Those satellites are what give us the big picture for weather. Those satellites are the only thing giving us the big picture for weather. If those satellites (or even one or two of them) go down, then hurricane prediction will be back to the forties. And a lot of people will not be warned in time. Yes. A lot of us. Search "dreams" and you'll find a bunch of older posts. My favorite - Going in no pull, getting up, brushing myself off and first wondering who may have seen it and how badly I'm going to get yelled at, but then realizing that I don't have to pack for the next load. Not if they hire illegal immigrants to do the work. Why do they encourage illegal immigrants? Ever wonder how many illegals work as "visiting" DZ packers? I always pack for myself, but I'm a Packers fan. Go figure. So how do you think the Packers will do next year? Well, for the first time in a while, the Packers signed a fairly big free agent, Jeff Saturday from the Colts. So they should do pretty well. Saturday... Maybe the weather will be good so that I can jump. But I'll need a packer, I don't feel like doing all that work myself. I'm lazy, maybe I should get laid off so that I can collect unemployment, food stamps and welfare. And suck off everyone's taxes. We should really give amnesty to all those illegals so that they can get "on the books" and pay taxes so I can suck off them. How's that?? Watch the video. After opening, he flips himself up and into the harness and then pops the brakes and lands normally. I had a feeling it was going to be this one when I saw the thread title. It's an amazing stunt, but like most stunts, it isn't all that it appears to be. That doesn't mean that a couple of things going wrong in the wrong way wouldn't have been catastrophic, but for him to have slipped and let go just wasn't going to happen. Good. A lot of people don't get the mag..... And some of us prefer the original versions much much more than the edited ones. I understand they have their reasons for the changes, and they aren't all that much, but they lose something. The description of the exit and freefall was trimmed just a bit. But it seemed to take away a lot of the feel. And the very small "flappeta flappeta" from the slider was missing too. It's one of those little details that add an overall "richness" to the whole thing. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." AAD requirement @ Skydive San Marcos
wolfriverjoe replied to bluskidave's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Well in the eyes of the plaintiff that's a true statement. Lawsuit on. In that case, why isn't every car manufacturer sued for every drunk driving death because they didn't design every single car to have a breathalyzer interlock in every car? Fucking stupid people and greedy lawyers. Because the car companies have big enough legal departments and deep enough pockets that they can and do fight to be excluded from this sort of garbage. And the ambulance chasers know it. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo -
#1 Gun rights are controversial. And while well tested, I don't see it as all that secure. Brady and the AWB were less than 20 years ago. And if there hadn't been a very strong backlash (to a lot of things, not just guns) that put the Rs back in control of congress in 96, it might have gone a lot further. #2 They seem to be the flavor of the month. A couple months ago, it was religion. It seemed like 80% of the posts were about God. A lot of it is about the Florida case, which actually doesn't involve gun rights per se, it's a lot more about self defense (which usually involves guns and did in this particular case). #3 If you want to discuss other stuff, start a thread. Nobody knows the causes for Autism. And it isn't anywhere near 50%. There are opinions out there that the rate of identification is rising a lot more than the actual rate of ocurrence. Well, you're going to have to wait a few years to join SOS, but you're already eligible for POPS. Lots of folks started when they were "no longer young." There's quite a few that have kept going no matter when they started. As long as you are in reasonably good shape, reasonably flexible, and don't have any health issues that would present problems, then go for it. You are probably a lot less impulsive and a lot more willing to listen than some of the "young'uns." That can be a real positive. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." It looks very nice. But you could get a standard color Triathlon and get the "rainbow" for a lot less money and effort. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo

Waaaaaaay cool Namowal!!!!! But if you've now got your "A", then the author credits in Parachutist will give away the rest of the story. I was going to put "ending to the story", but the real adventure is just beginning. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Plane crash at Deland??? (Not a skydiving plane)

See what I mean, they keep changing their story. Wait a while... Ok, it's now in the Bonfire so I'll say it... Who decided to put floats on the Skyvan??? Tsk tsk, professor. Heat flows, not cold. Ahhh, So the crooks and politicans in Chicago (yeah, I know that's a redundant statement) stole the heat from the North Pole. Stealing from Santa Claus. Can anything be learned from this video?
wolfriverjoe replied to -ftp-'s topic in General Skydiving Discussions
A couple people gave good examples on how step throughs happen. But no one mentioned how simple they are to recognize. When you run the lines up from the container to the canopy, are they straight and clear? Or is there a twist or a tangle in them? Normally, I will seperate the fronts. rears and control (steering) lines with my fingers. If everything is straight, smooth and clear of twists or tangles it's all good. If there's a twist or a tangle in them, I flip the canopy around, feed it through the lines, whatever it takes to get the lines correct. If you are new and not familiar with it, ask for some help. It can be very confusing and frustrating if you don't know what you are doing. It is very easy to make it worse instead of better. But it's not all that hard. Some places put a rather nasty step through (not just a simple "flip through) into a canopy when teaching how to pack. I've spent more time untwisting a nasty step through than actually packing the thing. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Well, there's some research out that says that consuming chocolate will alter the way your body absorbs fat and help keep you thin. Really. Make sure you wear at least 4 GoPros. That should be some cool video, as long as the cameras survive the impact. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo -
When does a Tourist become a skydiver?
wolfriverjoe replied to Rogersmoke's topic in Safety and Training
Define "People". Do your friends say "Hi" when you arrive? Do they seem genuinely happy to see you? Do they want to join you on your tandems? Do they ask where you've been if you haven't been there for a couple weeks? Do you hang around and join the after hours shenannigans? And most of all - Do you feel at home on the DZ? It's kind of funny. I don't feel like I "fit in" in a lot of places and situations. But I do at the DZ. ANY DZ that I go to, I can find friends. Not everyone, but at least someone. Sure there are the "cliques", but even if I'm not "one of them" I can still talk to them, hang out and have a good time. I may not be able to participate in their type of jump, but I don't feel excluded because of that. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." I have yet to see evidence that aliens could possibly give a rat's ass about this rock. The best indication that intelligent life exists in the universe is the fact that they haven't made contact with us. Anybody know who said that?? For "fear of speaking out", look up the thread that Skyflower_bloom started about a tandem incident. She took a boatload of shit from the DZ regulars about it. Some people don't think that their incidents should be made public, especially if they don't make the papers and the only ones who know about it are the ones who were there. Yes. I have lilacs starting to bud in Wisconsin. The earliest I remember. The apple trees are starting to blossom too. The orchard owners are scared to death. If we have a hard freeze, the entire crop is toast. And our "last frost" date isn't until Memorial day. Over 2 months away. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." The best write up of it that I could find comes from the Wisconsin Bar Association. http://www.wisbar.org/am/template.cfm?section=Legislative_Advocacy&Template=/CM/ContentDisplay.cfm&Contentid=106889 In short: Someone making a forced, unlawful entry into a persons home is presumed to have intent of inflicting great bodily injury or death. The forced entry in and of itself gives the home occupant that legal standing. Even if retreat were practical or possible, a home occupant isn't required to retreat in the face of a threat. There are also some civil law provisions that make it harder for a criminal to go after the home occupant. Interestingly, the latest issue of American Rifleman (the NRA magazine) had an article on Castle Doctrine. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit."
