  1. Are you talking about the same 'free market' that found it more profitable to spew toxic chemicals into the air, creating acid rain? Or just dump those same toxins into the rivers and lakes, resulting in waterways that were essentially dead? Or flammable? Or simply destroy the environment to get at the resources below. Free market has it's place. But long term sustainability and survivability is not one of it's strong suits.
  2. Did you make a public statement that was broadcast on the TV news? Why do you think it's about you? As far as Trump goes, he's no fool. Not as smart as he likes to think, but well above the 'earthworm' level. He's a hell of a good con man. He will do or say anything to get what he wants. He doesn't care who gets hurt in the process. He doesn't care who he has to work with or their motives or subsequent harm done by them (KJU, Putin, House of Saud, ect). He likely became a candidate because he saw it as a money making opportunity. He could con people into giving him money, spend campaign funds at his own places, that sort of thing. He's doing the exact same thing while in office. He also found that his hateful, divisive, derogatory rhetoric resonated very well with a certain segment of the population. "Build the Wall", "Lock Her Up", ect. I have no clue how much of this he actually believes or subscribes to (Mexicans are rapists, Muslims are terrorists, Nazis & KKK are fine people), but the fact that he continues to advocate this garbage is disgusting. I'd love to see him in prison. The latest allegations may not be adequate for that by themselves, but when taken is total with the rest of his misdeeds, it's pretty apparent that he's committed numerous felonies since becoming a candidate. The Mueller report detailed that pretty well.
  3. Well, the CEO of Juul resigned. The company has indicated that they won't fight any bans or ad bans or any other regulation. And, of course, the ambulance chasers are chomping at the bit. There are already ads out on TV (same outfits as the mesothemiloma & Round Up commercials). https://www.napolilaw.com/practice-areas/juul-vaping-lawsuit-attorneys/
  4. Well, an R made a statement to the effect of "finding someone guilty without trial". Of course, the impeachment process is the beginning of what will end up being a trial, with the Senate as jury. But he apparently doesn't know that. Or expects that the Trumpettes can't understand that. Probably right on that part.
  5. I'm not aware of any cases where someone went to vote and found that someone else had pretended to be them and 'stole' their vote. I'm not aware of any cases where requiring ID would have had any effect at all. Are you? If it doesn't prevent any fraud, why require it? Other than the obvious point that poor and minorities are the most likely demographics to not have ID and they tend to vote "D", which is why the Rs have gone to so much effort to require it.
  6. I don't find the new format to be significantly worse. The only real difference I see is that the numbers of new posts doesn't appear in the forum list. The old posts don't read as well as they did originally in the new format, siglines are really hard to differentiate and the pics are gone. Other than that, I don't have any issues pulling up the first new post in a thread, or seeing what's new in a given sub-forum.
  7. Te first one was largely backlash. After 8 years of Bush and Cheney, wars with no end in sight, Wall St run amok, all of that, there was little chance of any R winning. Yet the election was still reasonably close. 2nd time around, the economy had improved markedly, Iraq was supposed to be winding down (Daesh hadn't shown up much) and the Rs were in charge of Congress, showing they hadn't changed much. Romney was not a strong candidate and didn't appeal to a lot of the R base. And again, the election was pretty close. One of the reasons Trump won was that he attracted a lot of the 'racists, misogynists, narrow agenda evangelicals and sundry assholes' that were enraged that one of 'them' was in the White House. That, plus the people that fell for his con job. There ar a lot of those, too. He has never had widespread support. It's always been in the mid thirties, and it's the same people. They won't abandon him, and nobody new is going to support him. I don't see impeachment as all that likely. The Ds know full well that there would be a large backlash if they did, especially if the trial in the Senate didn't result in removal, which right now is probably the likely outcome. The Rs in the Senate aren't likely to vote to remove Trump because it would alienate the Trumpettes, who right now make up a large amount of primary votes. It would be problematic to see a lot of incumbents not make it to the final vote. Look at Alabama. Moore made it through the primaries, because the 'deplorable' vote was behind him. They didn't care that he tried to rape teenage girls (and may have succeeded). It would, however be a strange result to see a lot of extreme R candidates for Senate, who would then likely lose the seat in the general election (again using Alabama as an example). I have no idea how this will play out. But I see it as likely that I will vote for a D for president for the first time in my life (1st vote was for Reagan's 2nd term).
  8. This is being discussed to death on the Porsche forums. There's an "S" version and a "Turbo S" (no, I have no idea how an electric car can have a 'turbo'). The version run was the "S". Porsche has been around this block a few times. The idea that they didn't run the 'fastest & best' car in the shop, so that they can see what the competition can do, and then pull out the 'better' car and show what it can really do is something they've done in the past. More than once. The "Porsche Purists" absolutely HATE the electric Taycan. But then again, they hated the 914, 924, 928, Boxter, Cayenne (SUV) and Panamera when they came out. They hate anything that doesn't have the engine in back. Some of them still hate anything that isn't air cooled. The reasonably objective folks, however, aren't all that impressed. None of the "Porsche types" that have driven the Taycan are terribly surprised that a stripped down, souped up version of the Tesla beat it. The general assessment seems to be that it's a pretty standard electric car with the Porsche crest on it (and an appropriate price, too). A bit of a step back from the Cayenne, which was an SUV that performed like a Porsche should. Same with the Panamera. The Cayenne is a 2 1/2+ ton pig of a car, but it goes. The Turbo version (which really has two turbochargers) goes really well (I know this for a fact, I have an 05). The Panamera was vilified for being butt ugly (and it was), but it also goes very well. We shall see if the later versions of the Taycan will perform better.
  9. Well, to be fair Professor, it should be qualified with something like: "A record since we have had complete observational data of the entire planet." Prior to the placement of weather satellites in the sixties, we couldn't see all of the oceans to observe the storms. Prior to the 1900s (I had to look it up), we couldn't even get timely warnings from ships at sea. They didn't have radios. So it's entirely possible there have been six storms at once in the past. We just have no record of it. I'd love to see accurate records from the Medieval Warming Period. Lots of weather patterns changed significantly. I wonder what happened with major oceanic storms.
  10. Actually, I don't think they think we are stupid. They just know that they own Trump and his family. They got the Iran agreement shit-canned. For no real reason other than they wanted it. They killed Kashoggi. And despite getting caught, got nothing. So now, their 'proxy war' has come home. And they will want Trump to go after Iran. Which is what they've wanted the whole time.
  11. Just like Trump does. I find it rather funny how frightened people are of this young lady. Intelligent, articulate and passionate. So of course they attack her. Next will be blatant misrepresentations of what she said. Misquotes, material taken out of context, blatant lies. And of course, the fools will believe the lies. They always do.
  12. It's been both revealing and disturbing how many people were/are 'closeted' racists, bigots, misogynists and otherwise closed minded idiots. Also rather amusing how many people will post shit on their FB page that they would never say 'in public.'
  13. And the other side of the 'typical uninformed bullshit' is that these idiots ignore the very simple fact that the 'corporations' will pass on any tax increases to their customers. How many have to get sick before you wake up? How many have to die? How about West Nile virus? How many for that? Then there's Eastern Equine Encephalitis. That's a real fun one. While the confirmed cases are still in the single digits per state, it's on the increase.
  14. That's how it seems to read. I did S/L with a direct bag setup. I cannot see how that jump can be called anything close to 'freefall', but I'm not the one in charge of it. I can see a spring loaded pilot chute S/L setup counting. But the jumper falls a LOT further before having an inflated canopy with that setup.
  15. Before my time, but I've heard the stories. I do believe Billvon was around when they came out and subsequently were found to be a really bad idea to fly. What I remember (which may or may not be correct) is that they flew great under normal conditions. But had a tendency for the nose to fold under and collapse the entire canopy in turbulence. Think about that happening in the pattern. Mains are not 'certified' in any way. So my understanding is that the grounding is entirely advisory, not under rule (again, could be wrong on that). However, I can't imagine any DZ allowing you to jump it. The only way jumping it on an intentional cutaway rig would be 'safe'(ish) would be to cut it away on every jump. I do believe we should mark this day on the calendar. A husband was right and his wife was wrong. I would strongly suggest leaving this one for display purposes only. Edit to add: I really don't think you will be 'missing' much. My understanding (and could be wrong on that yet again) is that it was a 'sporty' canopy. You can get the same or better 'sportiness' under any modern elliptical. Just without the 'Russian Roulette' aspect.
  16. Bomb them back to the stone age?
  17. Well, both the US and Germany had a pretty big industrial base (Japan & Britain too). There were industrialists on all sides who made a LOT of money building the 'war machine'. Even in Japan & Germany, most of these survived the war and prospered.
  18. True. But I don't puff out huge clouds of caffeine when I drink a cup of coffee. I don't expose anyone else to it.
  19. Nicotine is bad for you. I would think that vaping nicotine is less dangerous than smoking tobacco, because there are fewer 'other things' in it. But that doesn't change the fact that nicotine is not a good thing to take in. https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/240820.php
  20. No good reason for drinking alcohol. But we already found out what banning that does. People enjoy smoking & vaping. And jumping from planes. And driving fast cars. And eating unhealthy foods. Freedom means the ability to choose what we want to do. Some of those choices have risks.
  21. Ring has a feature that allows users to let the cops see through the lens. Amazon hasn't really been transparent on the details of this. Search "Ring police" for a wide variety of stuff on it. It has positive aspects, but the 'big brother' undertones are definitely there.
  22. Kinda funny (not amusing, but ironic). If there's a food product with a potential to harm someone (infectious agent or foreign object), they recall ALL of it, out of an 'abundance of caution'. Same with safety recalls, especially for kid's products. Vaping seems to be causing a form of chemical pneumonia. They don't know why and they don't know why it seems to be appearing now, when vaping has been around for a few years. Smoking kills thousands (actually hundreds of thousands) every year and little is done. It's become less socially acceptable and the places one can do it are being limited. Very few calls for bans on tobacco. Alcohol kills a lot of people too. It also kills a lot of innocent bystanders (drunk driving). We all know how the attempt to ban it went. And the 'war on drugs' has been an abject failure. The only people who 'won' that one are the drug lords and the prison industry. The unregulated aspect of it makes it much harder to ban. The tobacco industry, along with the 'health supplements' industry have done a very good job of removing any real oversight of their products. I'm not sure where/how/who vaping products fit in there, but it's pretty clear there's not a whole lot of regulation of it. I really wouldn't support a ban. If someone wants to be that foolish, let them.
  23. Well, both sides have lied about it to try to get elected. Among other things.
