I have this friend who was dating a really nice guy. She wasn't "totally feeling it" with this perfect on paper guy. So, she gets home from a vacation, sees an eHarmony commercial on television and has a bright idea to join to see what it's all about. 3 days later she's sitting in the doctor's office and her cell phone beeps with a couple of emails from eHarmony. 1st email said, "Meet your new match, XXXXX". Second email said, "XXXXX has sent you a message". Oops. Busted. It was the guy she was dating. Her standards were so "tight" that she's only received about 5 "matches" (that were all rejected by her for not clicking in the looks) in about 3 weeks. Always be kinder than you feel.

Everyone's going to be so surprised with that statement, you've hidden it so well. I was head over heels when I first met Normiss too. He was on a different path with his life than I was at that time, so we reluctantly parted as a couple but grew to be best friends. He supported me while I suffered through verbal and emotional abuse with my husband and reminded me that I deserved to be treated better when I was so beaten down mentally and couldn't see it for myself. I hope I have many years to come to show him how much I love and appreciate him for that.

But the same argument could equally be applied to real prostitutes. A prostitute--as in someone actually walking the street--probably also spent a lot of money on makeup, a sexy outfit, etc--so that she can attract customers. It is part of the cost of doing business for her. If she is good at what she does her revenue will exceed her expenses. Now with regard to "dating" situations--I'm not saying that all women are "gold diggers" but just speaking about women who might be described as "gold diggers". For such a woman, the real financial reward isn't the free dinner during the date, but the much greater financial rewards that will come when the man is persuaded to "commit". I agree with you that it is becoming less and less common for women to want financial support out of a dating relationship. But for those women who do--and they still exist even if rarer--the dynamic is not so different than with prostitution. She can write that stuff off as business expenses if she has a good accountant. I'm also not saying that back when I was young and stupid I didn't subscribe to the "big diamond" bullshit. All of my chicas had beautiful engagement rings. I never, ever, ever made puppy dog eyes at the television for jewelry. I bet a lot of women here would say the same thing. Trust me, the size of the diamond doesn't mean shit.
