Not a Sharpie, apparently.

From the NYT - more evidence that Trump thinks the law is whatever he says it is. Trump wrote on social media on Sunday night that he no longer considered valid the pardons his predecessor granted to members of the bipartisan House committee that investigated the Jan. 6, 2021, attacks on the Capitol, and a range of other people whom Mr. Trump sees as his political enemies, because they were signed using an autopen device. There is no power in the Constitution or case law to undo a pardon, and there is no exception to pardons signed by autopen. But Mr. Trump’s assertion, which embraced a baseless right-wing conspiracy theory about former President Joseph R. Biden Jr., was a new escalation of his antidemocratic rhetoric. Implicit in his post was Mr. Trump’s belief that the nation’s laws should be whatever he decrees them to be. And it was a jolting reminder that his appetite for revenge has not been sated.

Congress rolled over and has been playing dead for some time now. However, Trump just totally ignored a court order from a federal judge.

I've always been amazed at how readily evil, malevolant leaders have been able to find followers who are willing to implement their worst impulses. It's not just in Marvel comics.

Antarctica was OK, but South Georgia was spectacular.

Me too. Have we been to all the same places?

But that is exactly what they did vote for. It's not as if the felon-in-chief kept it secret.

Up to 259 in TX right now, with only 2 in fully vaccinated individuals. 296 total in the TX/NM/OK outbreak. https://abcnews.go.com/Health/measles-cases-linked-texas-outbreak-grows-259-2/story?id=119799576

And to think that I believed "House of Cards" to be a work of fiction.

An unelected billionaire ordering mass firings of federal employees. The elevation of conspiracy theorists to key government posts in healthcare and security services. The rejection of climate science and dismantling of basic environmental protections. The abrupt abandonment of liberal democratic allies and embrace of authoritarian governments across the world. The targeting of dissenters at home for constitutionally protected speech. Hard to remain optimistic!

Doesn't it bother you that a legal US resident can be arrested and possibly deported just for expressing opinions that Trump doesn't like? To the best of my knowledge he hasn't been convicted of, or even charged with, a crime. Once you start restricting the scope of the 1st Amendment, where do you stop?

Reagan railed against the debt 45 years ago. Perot used much the same arguments as you, as did Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan, Ron Paul, Newt Gingrich and Rand Paul (among others). Sky did NOT fall, however. We've been in debt continuously for 189 years without dire consequences. Just what is the time frame you consider long term?

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist . . . . . . https://www.washingtonpost.com/immigration/2025/03/12/marco-rubio-mahmoud-khalil-deportation/

25 more cases in Texas since Friday. New cases in NM and OK too.

For a university, changing the use of endowment is very difficult indeed. No-one donates money to the "unrestricted" fund.
-
i am not privy to the details of the Columbia budget, but I imagine if it's like ours, most of the endowment is tied up for very specific purposes and not available to fill an unbudgeted big hole in operations. Donors like to give money for buildings, new labs, named professorships, etc. but hardly anyone gives money for maintenance or day-to-day operations.

I've seen some bizarre theories from right wingers about this - how it's (a) not true at all, and (b) all a conspiracy by "libtard moles" to make Trump and Hegseth look bad.
-
We're only 9 weeks into 2025 so far.
-
Not in this outbreak. 5% of the cases are reported in those who've been vaccinated.
-
Now (at least) 228 cases and 2 deaths in the Texas/New Mexico outbreak, with cases in some 10 other states. Thanks, anti-vaxxers! Remember to give cod liver oil to your kids like RFK Jr suggests.

Why do billionaires need a tax cut?

And still a con-man, still a 6 time bankrupt, still a guy who stole from his own foundation, still a guy fined some $400 Million in three separate fraud cases.

I expect they'll expunge this guy too: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_H._Gay_Jr.
