  2. I do not want to armchair QB this either but it does not seem right. I fall pretty fast in an arch, sit, etc. and the AFF's I know would never have this problem. Hell, one of our instructors when he is doing tandems has no issue speeding up or slowing down for the vidiot and he is not a big guy at all. Where these instructors really small guys/girls? 3. I jump an Altitron so let me give you my insight.... I can read it in freefall just fine. I have never had an issue seeing the numbers. Different units are going to read altitude differently. I jump two audibles... a pro track and an optima which are always a bit off from one another. I find that during take off if I just wake the Altitron up with one push of a button it is pretty dead on with my audibles. I never use the logging features on the Altitron but bc of a post above I checked it out. It syncs up with what my protrack tells me so no issue there. In summation.... I like my Altitron a lot but I also like the L & B products. The biggest thing for me is the battery situation..... it has been a pain many times for me to stock up on batteries for my optima but never an issue with the Altitron. just my $.02 Life is all about ass....either you're kicking it, kissing it, working it off, or trying to get a piece of it. 6. Wendy.... I always value your input and you make some great points. The problem with the whole argument from either side is that they are arguing two different things. Take what you said for example.... you are arguing for the mother and what she has to go through which is valid. a pro life person is not, they are arguing for the rights of the baby. These two are totally different and any conversation about abortion will boil down to this. The rights of the mother or the rights of the child. This is another reason abortion cannot really be as conclusive as other topics. Someone said that they thought the right was for the government staying out of personal rights.... perfect example. That poster is seeing it from the mom/woman's point of view. The right is for the govt. staying out of a persons business (most anyway) but the right sees it as protecting the life that cannot speak for itself. It is a very complex issue for sure. 12. It doesn't make much difference to a voter whether he is prevented from voting or has his vote negated by an ineligible voter's fraudulent vote. The effect is the same. The effect is not the same. When the state prevents a person from voting they are denied their right to cast a vote. In the scenario I gave, the effect is quite the same. He is not being prevented from voting. The ineligible voter is voting in addition to the eligible voter and cancelling the legal vote. Same thing as preventing the lawful voter from entering the polling place ...he's been "disenfranchised". Yes, this is yet another way voter fraud can occur. How will the authorities know which voter is the eligible one? meh. Nice example http://www2.timesdispatch.com/news/virginia-politics/2012/jul/25/tdmain01-romney-camp-asks-va-to-probe-voter-forms-ar-2081517/ Life is all about ass....either you're kicking it, kissing it, working it off, or trying to get a piece of it. 15. Setting aside the gun free zone venue. One of the things all Fire Arms owners should know, and any who has ever taken any class has been told this, is KNOW what you aiming at, AND, what id behind your target. For my CCW, the Instructor reinforced my already held belief that my weapon is for DEFENSE, and that some times retreating to a safer area is a better option in that defense. The net is on fire with tough guys saying they would have done this or that. Most have no true training or experience in this type of situation, I know I never trained to have a gun fight in a crowded theater in my 21 Years in the Army or my years in PS and VIPS. Honestly, I think the discussion should be on how we can take reasonable steps in trying to prevent mentally unstable people from being able to do something like this again, with out removing rights, we have at birth and reaffirmed with the Constitution and Bill of Rights, for law abiding and stable Citizens. Matt I agree also... that is addressing the problem. The guns are not the problem Life is all about ass....either you're kicking it, kissing it, working it off, or trying to get a piece of it. 17. I think that if anyone was carrying in the theator, then: 1 - He or she would have to notice that they are in a dark area absolutely FULL of bystanders. 2 - Perhaps the carry holder would also realize that the theator walls are thin and the next room would also be full of innocents as well 3 - Lots of nuts at these showings are dressed up, like the shooter. Dark theator combined with nutbag might make it hard to find the shooter anyway. 4 - Combine a difficult target to find, along with my first couple of points that even to shoot at the guy in the theator creates a huge risk to the others. 5 - for that matter - yes, a .45 has a lot of power and even if you hit the shooter, you still might hit another person. Self defense should tactical, not spray and pray conclusion: I'm very pleased with any hypothetical carry holder that had the reasoning to withhold any shot except for the ideal shot - which likely didn't present itself. It's a tribute to the training and argument that responsible CCW holders deserve their permits. That is a logical post and I agree... but in those circumstances one cannot say that a trained gun owner would not have had the opportunity for a clear shot. That is all I am saying. To rule out that a CCW holder "could' have taken him down is a ridiculous statement but again I agree with what you wrote. 18. False! Yes you can stop a guy like this. Do you have any idea the energy and power of a .45? When someone gets shot while wearing a bullet proof vest do you think it does not even phase them... like in some movies? A .45 round shot in to your chest while wearing body armor will still knock you on your ass and hurt like a b&%tch! http://concealedcarryforum.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=22560 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XaQsbdXQuZI Life is all about ass....either you're kicking it, kissing it, working it off, or trying to get a piece of it. 19. So we can put you down as wanting more licensed concealed carry holders to increase the odds of someone being onsite to stop things like this? No individual carrying around a 1911 was ever going to stop this guy. This sort of thing is not a realistic reason to carry a weapon unless somebody is suggesting carrying AKs. Please explain how you have come to state this as if it is fact? Why could't a CCW holder with a 1911 stop this guy? Body armor and the fact that in this audience it's highly likely there were more than one who was carrying, yet nobody stopped him, not even the police. The way this ended was the guy was sitting in the parking lot and just gave up. Didn't resist. I mean, I guess a guy could theoretically fire a magic BB, but the fact is with this guy as heavily armed as he was and wearing body armor, he wasn't going to realistically be stopped by even the better than average carrier. That is your opinion. not fact... we will never know and you do not know if anyone was carrying in that cinema. That is all irrelevant though... a person carrying a 1911 could have stopped him but that didn't happen. I wish it did but it didn't. 21. I don't agree with that statement. Smoking prevelance is an example that societal behaviour can be changed over time. People still smoke, but numbers are certainly way down over the last 40 years. It took a combination of regulation and education, yet keeping cigarettes legal for those who wanted to enjoy them. Smoking is down bc of education.. I will grant you that. People now actually believe it kills you when you do it but regulation.... no. Bill... we do a lot to keep this from happening. We should do more I agree... like teach people to respect firearms. Perhaps promote carrying a firearm legally. Get rid of the gun free zones so we stop telling those that own guns illegally that there are no other guns in the area. 22. I don't think guns are the problem. I think guns play a role in the problem. The size of plates and portions in restaurants are not the problem when it comes ot obesity, but it does play a role. You cannot legislate or control your way to this not happening. This will always happen as it always has. There will always be fat people like there always has. You cannot find a solution because there isn't one. as long as man has free will and he always will these things will happen. So make it a crime (check), punish that crime (check), and allow law abiding citizens to protect themselves if they choose (check). 23. So basically no discussion regarding strategies to reduce these types of occurences can be had? They are just a fact of life, nothing can be done, move along, nothing to see here. I do not think we do nothing... there are laws, punishments, etc. Also, this is a great reason why we should have the right to bear arms. I think even you have stated that you see no reason to carry a gun. Well here is your reason... nut jobs exist. (period) I choose to protect myself and my family by having a firearm on me. So I am doing something more about things like this. You seem to think that guns are the problem.. you are incorrect. Guns are not the problem anymore than spoons are the problem when it comes to obesity. Life is all about ass....either you're kicking it, kissing it, working it off, or trying to get a piece of it. 24. So it is just the price of the 2nd Amendment? Other countries appear to have less of an incident rate of these pre-meditated mass shootings. Is it really impossible that the easy availability of guns has no impact on this? No shit Sherlock... As always the question is how to reduce and if the price of reduction is worth it. I am going to randomly try to demonize something as well. I say stop all the violence in the movies. Kids are and nut jobs are being influenced by these movies and.... video games... yes video games. Ban all violence in movies and in video games. They are the cause... they make people nuts! Evil or bad exists in the world no matter what you do. It's not hard to build a homemade bomb. No guns just do that. Guns are not the problem... people are the problem and there is not much we can do about that. Things like this have happened since the dawn of time even before guns came around. Life is all about ass....either you're kicking it, kissing it, working it off, or trying to get a piece of it.
