Dealing with Two canopy out - Was Incidents: Multiple locations
hcsvader replied to Remster's topic in Safety and Training
Yes altitude was the issue, he had a survivable configuration until he tried to change it at a low altitude. Similar to what you see in the wingsuit video where he had a stable configuration until he made inputs that put it into a down plane at a low altitude. Skymonkeys method can be used if altitude permits, which he didn't mention as a factor. Kind of an import one. In most 2 out scenarios altitude is one thing your not going to have much of. If its a 2 out due to an AAD fire your already below 750' plus the time it takes for the reserve to open and you to become aware of what is happening, check to insure the risers are in a safe configuration to perform a cutaway then induce a down plane to cutaway. What altitude do you think that this will put you at? Do you still think this is an acceptable technique? Have you seen my pants? it"s a rough life, Livin' the dream >:) -

12-14 team jumps in a day.... Yes, having to change my routine that I have had for 6k jumps to make up for a device that was supposed to be "set and forgotten" IS a big deal. Then there is also nothing to prevent it from turning off AFTER I did the prejump check..... Static buildup does not just happen on packing mats. And it seems you didn't read the SB: "In addition, a recent activation, after the rig had been placed on the packing mat, has been linked to this phenomenon." I think it is pretty enlightening how many people simply do not understand the gravity of the situation. You've got a good point, after 6000 jumps, you have to learn a new procedure. Here's a fun bit of information for those of you that are worried about your unit becoming inoperable and you not being aware of it. Did you know that once you turn on your cypres unit and it goes thru it's checks, you can disconnect the cutter and no error message or any indication that the unit will not work will appear. So if the cables connected to cutter were to be broken during a rough landing, or damaged during installation (both have happened) you would have no way of knowing that your cutter is not going to function until you turn the unit on again and it runs thru the self checks. The "set it and forget it" attitude towards AADs is BS and has been for quite some time. Batteries die, equipment gets damaged, operator error and alien interference can effect how our gear works. You can check your AAD on the ground before each jump, and in most rigs even in the plane before exit. Sure a lot of people are pissed off about this issue with the cypres unit but hopefully a positive outcome of this will be that people learn to do a full gear check before each jump, and better understand how their gear works. He does seem to enjoy stirring the pot more than he does jumping. On the Australian skydive forum he went as far as to say that he believed he was banned from all APF (Australian parachute federation) DZs. I told hit was bullshit, and even pointed him in the direction of a non APF DZ if he felt that way.... Still he comes online and whines about wanting to jump.... Greg, there are like 7 DZs in the Melbourne area, stop bitching online book yourself a tandem and show up and jump. Go to one of the tandem factories on the beach and no one will know or care who you are. Just don't ask them if they have sky hooks in their random gear Have you seen my pants? it"s a rough life, Livin' the dream >:)

Yeah... That just killed someone in Australia. Have you seen my pants? it"s a rough life, Livin' the dream >:) -
I think the fact that he's not welcomed at the only 2 dz he's been to (his words) may say something about his persona. I'd be willing to bet a carton that if he showed up at bridgy and asked Ralph to take him for a tandem, he would get back in the air. I don't think Greg is man enough to do that though. It's 19:45 here, almost time for me to go to sleep because I have to go to fucking work again tomorrow. Speaking of coffee I accidentally rediscovered coffee and hot chocolate today. At work we have one of those machines that will make all kinds of different hot drinks, I usually just use the machine for the hot water to add to my instant coffee ( the coffee from the machine is also instant but I like mine stronger) accidentally hit the hot chocolate button and rediscovered the awesomeness of a shitload of sugar and caffeine. Used to be a favourite drink of mine years Ago in Canada when I was freezing my ass off at work. Doesn't make much sense having as hot drink when it's 35'C but fuck it, it's good stuff.
