So if I were to put video from my sony dv camera onto the computer what would the file extention be? I want to start doing some editing with Premiere, and I thought that when you capture video it ends up being an .AVI file. -Dave "Gas...Undercarriage...Mixture...Prop...Beer"

So AVI is not compressed at all? -Dave "Gas...Undercarriage...Mixture...Prop...Beer"

I take it MPEG2 is a file format? If I download from DV to a computer I think I end up with an AVI file, is that right? What is the disadvantage to MPEG2 compared to AVI or whatever format DV is? -Dave "Gas...Undercarriage...Mixture...Prop...Beer"

Just wondering if anyone out there is using the new Sony MV format for skydiving. The camera I looked at was really small. The tapes are about half the size of a DV tape and the camera could easily slip into a shirt pocket. Don't know how the quality compares to DV, but it is digital video. -Dave "Gas...Undercarriage...Mixture...Prop...Beer"

Max gross weight for the set-400 is 500 lbs. The rig weighs somewhere around 45-50 lbs. That makes the useful load around 450 lbs. I weigh 230 lbs so the largest passenger I will take is 220 lbs. If you had a tandem instructor that weighed 150 lbs, then in theory he could take a 300 lb passenger without overloading the system. Getting the harness on said 300 lb person is another matter. -Dave "Gas...Undercarriage...Mixture...Prop...Beer"

Lets all just take a minute of our time to give Hixxx a proper verbal raping. Why you ask? Well just look at his picture (attached) and you can see what a devil worshiper he is. Not enough reason you say? Well how about one of the following: 1. He can't freefly to save his ass. 2. He wins swooping gold in Nebraska without swooping half as far as the real champion. 3. He polutes the airplane with his rank stench on almost every load. I've smelled a lot of farts but DAMN! Put a cork in it dude. 4. He just deserves it cause he's ugly. Fire away!

Hmmm...I must have him confused with someone else. -Dave "Gas...Undercarriage...Mixture...Prop...Beer"

C'mon...nobody's going to bash Hixxx anymore? This sucks...just when this thread was getting interesting somebody has to take it back to its original subject. Curses! Maybe I'll just start a Hixxx bashing thread of my own.

The tandem master looks familar. Whats his name? Where is his home dz? -Dave "Gas...Undercarriage...Mixture...Prop...Beer"

The only reason you "smoked" me is because of the "make it up as we go along" rule making style. Ask anyone who was there and they will tell you I out-swooped you BY FAR! If it makes you feel better about yourself you can keep the gold, I mean they let the Russians keep theirs even though the Canadians kicked their asses. And the whole world knows who the real winners are. -Dave "Gas...Undercarriage...Mixture...Prop...Beer"

Thanks for the input. I checked out your web page. What is up with the tandem pic of the Instructor tackleing the student off the step? Thats a funny pic. I am going to try to attach it to this post. -Dave "Gas...Undercarriage...Mixture...Prop...Beer"

If thats what it takes to win, Hixxx will be the next Tiger Woods of skydiving. You should see his instability on exit...that alone should be enough to give him the gold. -Dave "Gas...Undercarriage...Mixture...Prop...Beer"

This is probably a stupid question but I was wondering if a wide angle lense gives a camera the same frame as if the subject was being shot from further away. For instance, if I shoot a video of a tandem with a .5 wide angle lense from 3 feet away, will it look any different then if I shoot the same tandem with no wide angle lense from 6 or 8 feet away? If not then what is the point? Why not just fly a little further from the subject? Also, I hear of people switching from one wide angle lense to another. Why not just buy the widest lense you are going to use and then zoom in slightly with your camera when you want a closer shot? I have heard the picture can get a little grainy doing this but I am only talking about bumping the zoom in a couple stops. The difference between a .45 and a .5 lense can't be that much that it will reduce the quality that much to zoom in a touch can it? -Dave "Gas...Undercarriage...Mixture...Prop...Beer"

CRW...maybe I can vouch for that on at least one occation. Swoop...well that depends on your definition of a swoop so I guess I will "cave" and give you that one too. But freefly? Sorry Hixxx but I gotta call "BULLSHIT" on that one. I was on the dive last weekend remember? I guess if you define freeflying as rolling around on your back out of control taking video of the sky rather then the sit-flyers...then yeah...your an awsome freeflyer. Maybe you can open your own school at the dropzone. You could call it "Hixxx's School of Freefly for the Vertically Challenged"...oops I guess thats Joe's school...never mind. -Dave "Gas...Undercarriage...Mixture...Prop...Beer"

~disconnect any RSL's ~Carry at least one hook knife, 2 preferred. maybe a jack the ripper and a smaller one. the plastic ones suck ~establish a minimum break off altitude for all docking. ~long shirts and pants prefered. ~none of those boot hooks on shoes. ~confirm youre on the same page in case of a wrap. You should both have the same plan for the same emergencies. ~wear gloves ~avoid sandles ~Its also good to know what equipment everyone is using. Crew canopies are generally reinforced through the nose. If you are jumping with a regular canopy you should always take grips on the bottom skin to avoid tearing the parachute. A hard dock on the top skin of a regular triatholon for instance can result in a dammaged canopy. [sad] -Dave "Gas...Undercarriage...Mixture...Prop...Beer"

You can do CRW on a small scale (2-4 stack) with mismatched canopies. That means different wing loadings and different canopies. However, things will be much easier if you have similar canopies at similar wing loadings and as you start getting into bigger formations it becomes more necessary. -Dave "Gas...Undercarriage...Mixture...Prop...Beer"

Ive found that a regular pull up cord is easier for me to use. -Dave "Gas...Undercarriage...Mixture...Prop...Beer"

I think its called "Flight of the Valkaries" btw, I jump with a cd player pretty frequently. You need earbuds for headphones or you cant hear it. I usually listen on the ride to altitude and in freefall...then shut it off under canopy. For you pilot types, you can also wear them under your headset and listen to tunes while your flying. You just have to make sure your radio volume is turned all the way up so that you can hear approach/center/unicom over the music. -Dave "Gas...Undercarriage...Mixture...Prop...Beer"
