  1. Skydive Dubai Desert Campus has a new 16.5ft tunnel that will be open this summer the other side of the runway to the landing area...
  2. At 60 Jumps a year average, id say you were a long term tourist...
  3. Ill repeat that as i said in the other thread, we check canopy/wingloading (not so much specific wingloading but will make a guess) and turned away a reasonably un-current jumper with 700ish jumps recently who wanted to jump his velocity.
  4. Just food for thought... we turned a guy away from jumping here the other day (he had planned a jumping holiday here) who turned up with 650/700 jumps and a velo.
  5. Why don't you just buy a new set of slinks? cheap enough and never a bad idea to use new ones over second hand?
  6. Smooth front riser input then smooth flare with the toggle... Its no harder than any other canopy to land, you just have to fell and fly it.
  7. because of how uncurrent you are, 11 years layoff, you are in not much better a position than someone with 200 jumps...
  8. safire/pilot/sabre2-150sqft or bigger but no more elliptical
  9. Ok I can only compare to a regular velo111 which i did 5 jumps on but i have just changed from a JFX83 loaded at 2.75 to a comp velo 90 loaded at 2.5. Jfx will get you back from a long spot without problem. I would say in my opinion a JFX is closer to a velo and a JVX is closer to a comp velo but as i said i haven't done enough jumps on a regular velo to be of much help really! I will say though the JFX is a great canopy if you want awesome openings, an easy (in crossbraced terms) to fly canopy that will still swoop far and fast when you fly it right!
  10. This was may canopy progression to date with lots of coaching and courses Various rental gear 290- 170 (100) Safire 1 170 (450) Safire 2 150 (200) Crossfire 2 139(450) Crossfire 2 119(500) Vx99 (200) JFX 83 (400) Comp Velo 90 (50 but this is my current canopy) Aswell as tandem canopies 330-370! My advice would be to stick with the Sabre for a lot longer until you are jumping more often (16 a month is nothing) and you really have it dialed in. You have absolutely no need for a katana/crossfire yet. Bear in mind i didn't make my first downsize until 150 jumps after i was a full time videographer jumping 6/7 days a week doing 20-40 jumps a week.
  11. Yes, there is no packing licence in Nz, i worked as a full time packer there for tandems with no requirements other than being signed off by the head packer.
  12. Is this for real? What kind of camera are you putting in there?!!
  13. Are you sure about that? I made a comfortable living at my last Dz full time and I most definitely make a good living now at my current dz, just throwing drogues and shooting video...
  14. Best reason to downsize right there...said no one. Speaking of jumping to conclusions... sigh... Exactly, Where did I say that?? I only made a point that you don't need to have money lying around to downsize. But you do need, experience, skill, knowledge, training, and awareness among other things, all of which you seem to be lacking.
  15. I jump a crossbraced canopy at 2.75lbs/sg ft and never flake it, i just count the nose, give it a shake, set the slider clear the brakes and stabilisers then wrap the tail, this gives me much nicer openings than when flaking. Of course this is with a JFX so ymmv
  16. just a quick question, i dont use wings myself but do the attachement points shake around a bit? could that not cause unnecessary wear on the webbing?
  17. were you charged extra to do a tandem when you started? is that what all this is about? in my eyes the customer knows that they are paying more because they are fat... if they dont like it go to another dz (no one is making them jump there) or hit the gym, its really that easy! Fwiw i havent worked at a dz that charges extra for people over the limit but wouldnt have any morality issues doing so.
  18. you all make a fair point, i was just curious, didnt mean to offend anyone/ i was just wondering as i have been in a few situations when i was a teenager that involved knives/guns etc and i know for a fact if i had been carrying either it would have made those situations a whole lot worse...
  19. ok can i ask a question of all of you that like to exercise your right to carry concealed firearms... Why do you feel the need to? are you really all involved in stuff that warrants the need for guns? or is it all just paranoia? Serious question
  20. 750 odd jumps total and 550ish tandem camera jumps
