I did reconsider them

I was under a green canopy at Skydive San Diego Sunday? Yep, you flared really high.....we were all saying "hoooooooold it!" and you let up a lil, not too bad though you did meet the ground rather abrutly. DO NOT rely on those radios. Here is what worked for me during early AFF when you feel the first "OH SHIT FLARE" take a really deep breath then push that flare through and hold it! who was your instructors? edit:(ps, you are required to pull your own parachute to save your life, I would not trust anyone else with that) blue skies! keep it up and good luck jess "A man only gets in life what he is believing for, nothing more and nothing less" Kenneth Hagen

Jumped 2 weeks ago for 40th Birthday.

I did a tandem jump just for fun.....next thing you know, my thoughts are consumed with skydiving...haha the one thing that drove me crazy was the complete absence of fear for the tandem....so I signed up for AFF, but after being completely consumed with skydiving for 2 weeks, I knew I had finally found my hobby/sport/love. I did the AFF because freefall is what I wanted most, I am just now beginning to love my canopy flights. but my girlfriend is doing her static line progression and in the end you pushing for the same goal= to be a skydiver and to fly...so I don't think it matters which route you take. Keep us updated on how it goes and Blue skies! jess "A man only gets in life what he is believing for, nothing more and nothing less" Kenneth Hagen -

Fear sitting next to the door
dreaming13000 replied to chrismgtis's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
How true that is!? Skydiving is teaching me daily about how weird fear is. No problem jumping out of an airplane, but paddling a surfboard where I can't reach fear decends....even though I believe one day I will be able to catch a wave without going through a panic attack! Or spiders, social situations, fear of failure or ugly confrontations or even of some ugly truths.......scare the hell out of me, way more than jumping out of any airplane.....of course I am rather new to the sport, and "ignorance is bliss"....I have alot to learn. I guess fears dont' have to be rational "A man only gets in life what he is believing for, nothing more and nothing less" Kenneth Hagen -
Fear sitting next to the door
dreaming13000 replied to chrismgtis's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I have just recently had my first experience sitting by the door of an otter, opening it and all.... At first I was very intimidated and nervous, but I grew to enjoy it. I loved being able to watch the ground on our climb to altitude, not to mention waaaaay more room to breath (than being crammed up front), and as others have mentioned FIRST out if the shit hits the fan. Of course I kept a hold of that grab bar with a death grip probably more so than was required. "A man only gets in life what he is believing for, nothing more and nothing less" Kenneth Hagen -
Hooray! Congrats on starting your AFF!!!

Good job Tony! "A man only gets in life what he is believing for, nothing more and nothing less" Kenneth Hagen -
Good luck with that! I was so excited the night before my 1st AFF jump I couldn't sleep. I was up half the night tossing and turning. Try to get a good night's sleep! I'll 3rd the breathing...one of the most important things you can do , that will keep you focused. And finally, have a blast! Take care, be safe, jump to live! SA I am a constant skydive dreamer...and it is some of the best sleep I have ever had in my entire life.... makes me wanna take a nap and dream of skydiving right now...

Awesome work! I just finished aff recently, and your bank account might never recover! but it is worth every cent to me. Fly safe! blue skies jess "A man only gets in life what he is believing for, nothing more and nothing less" Kenneth Hagen

Welcome! Where are you going to do your training in California? Just visualize your success, use deep breathing exercises and as a great skydiving mentor of mine will tell you, most importantly "SMILE". Enjoy your training! And let us know how it is going. THERE are scammers out there! BE wary. Make sure you are actually talking to the dropzone you want to jump at. Good luck and Blue skies jess "A man only gets in life what he is believing for, nothing more and nothing less" Kenneth Hagen

Whichever one you do, you will love it and it will be like nothing you have ever experienced in your life

Extra credit A license skills
dreaming13000 replied to danielcroft's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
That basically sums up my last 5 landings.... jumps 13-18.... I have not mastered the uneven flare yet! but I will grrrrr. Jump number 13 I pulled at about 3,800....just about gave myself a heart attack! Jump 16 was hop n pop from 5k....totally fumbled the exit, tumbled towards earth, pitched the second I had belly to earth! open by 3k just extremly pissed at myself "A man only gets in life what he is believing for, nothing more and nothing less" Kenneth Hagen -
Good! tunnel time is good. I remember your post about your arch http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3260080#3260080, have fun at the tunnel! good luck & blue skies! jess "A man only gets in life what he is believing for, nothing more and nothing less" Kenneth Hagen

Tunnel time! will help alot. Also I found that when climbing to 13k, if I started relaxed breathing techniques at about 10k while visualizing the entire freefall from the door, my body went out of the plane in a relaxed state and breathing wasn't anything I had to think about, my body was already there. (deep breath in for 10 seconds, then out slowly for 10 seconds...repeat until you are out that door) who cares what everyone else on that plane thinks about the newbie...they were all newbies once themselves with the same nervous fears... It is all mind over matter, but it also helps to repeatedly go over your emergency procedures and know your equipment well....trust yourself, your instructors and your equipment. This also helped me http://www.uspa.org/publications/SIM/2007SIM/section4.htm good luck visualize your success and blue skies! jess "A man only gets in life what he is believing for, nothing more and nothing less" Kenneth Hagen

have you fallen on your back yet and recovered stability?? What AFF level are you on? The first time I ended up ass to earth, I had a split second of "oh f*ck!", I threw my hips up in the air and WHOOSH right back to belly to earth...It gave me alot of confidence in the power of arching! I will send some good skydiving dream vibes your way jess "A man only gets in life what he is believing for, nothing more and nothing less" Kenneth Hagen

Tandem or s/l for first jump
dreaming13000 replied to mike110's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I did a tandem, just for the ride, no intentions of ever jumping again.....that was May 24th of 2008. Now I am working on my A licence, a little over two months later, I am officially a skydiver and it has changed my life Do whichever one you feel most comfortable with, but be careful it doesn't hook you! Blue skies! "A man only gets in life what he is believing for, nothing more and nothing less" Kenneth Hagen -
Sounds like addiction to me

Dream about skydiving I did before AFF and I still do... best sleep EVER! "A man only gets in life what he is believing for, nothing more and nothing less" Kenneth Hagen

My Continuous Struggle To Arch Properly
dreaming13000 replied to anthonyfellows's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
. don't give up now....just not worth it.... you can do it. I know many ppl who failed their AFF 3, many of them were in FJC with me....(if you don't own the SIM, buy it now!) first of all.... MIND OVER MATTER get control...check your own equip..with an instuctor of course but know what is going on with your equip.*helps with nerves* be a nut like me, check those handles like your life depends upon them (which it does in a sense) who cares what those "skydivers" think...you are learning and they were there at one time as welll... have your dive flow planned out completely....every second accounted for...over and over....muscle memory visualise every move you will make at 120mph appox. before you even get into that airplane. in the plane, I begin deep breathing exercises at about 8/,000 ft jumping at 13,000....breathing is part of relaxing.... then as the SIM says "altimeter, arch, LEGS, relax" ps. I went to the wind tunnel before my level three, told them I had no idea what my legs were doing, they made me fly around in that thing with no arms only legs.... just helped me find awareness..... BLUE SKIES don't ever give up on a dream! jess "A man only gets in life what he is believing for, nothing more and nothing less" Kenneth Hagen
