I've been telling people I broke it skydiving into a forest fire to save a bunch of orphan children. Every one of them survived too.

I agree. I hate when people say it's so selfish of someone to commit suicide because of the people they leave behind. To me it's selfish of the "people left behind" to think they're more important. If someone is truly in that much pain and chooses to die, they should have that option. Having just lost my brother in law to suicide in a most bizarre and twisted manner - having a DVD of his death made by his girlfriend and mailed to his 12 year old daughter and ex wife as a "goodbye" message from dad it was the most selfish and twisted act that I have ever come across. I am not denying that he was seriously mentally ill - but he has caused severe mental harm to 3 or 4 children (he had 5 - but I am not sure the youngest comprehend what went on) not to mention the stuff that he video'd and sent to other members of the family. I am not sure that what he did was forgiveable and I have no sympathy for him whatsoever anymore. In summary I don't believe that depression excuses selfishness - especially when you have children that you have brought into this world. That's completely twisted and inexcusable but I have to agree with Sunny. Calling someone selfish for taking their life is ridiculous. Basically what you are saying is your happiness (of having them in your life) is more important than their happiness (which the ending of their life will bring). That's selfish.

Some of you really aren't getting the point. It's a trust and respect thing. Since a lot of you don't seem to get that, I give up on trying to explain it.

If you guys were married, engaged, lliving together, or even dating exclusively that would be egregious. If you were dating, that wouldn't be good. Where it's at "a girl that you like" and she's "not talking to you" rather than "my girl friend" who "won't even have dinner" it's not much. That may be true; but I think Skittles's issue isn't whether he did or did not really stand a chance with this babe. The issue is: he asked his "friend" to back off and give him enough space to have a go at it without interference, and his friend apparently failed to honor that request - thereby betraying the friendship. What, there aren't enough other fish in the sea for that guy without going after the one that he knows Skittles covets? Some friend. Precisely, it's more of a trust and respect thing. Plus he's got like 2 other girls already.

You and mneal hit the nail right on the head. Honestly, the girl isn't important. What's pissing me off is the lack of respect he's showing. I said to him awhile ago something along the lines of "you better not try anything until I know I have failed." And he said he promised (i never mentioned the word promise that was his own thing) he wouldn't. When it comes to a 'best friend' and they make you a promise you should be able to trust they will keep it. That's just my opinion though. If he would have waited a little longer and it turned out nothing was there then I probably wouldn't be wasting my time posting this thread and my responses.

Yup. She seemed interested too until recently and I just found out my friend started talking to her recently. Looks like it may be time to drop 'em both.

If he doesn't listen I may have to unfortunately. It really sucks too because we've been friends since the 7th grade (9 years). I know that doesn't sound like a lot but thats damn near half my life. We even stopped hanging out for like 6 months or so because him and my other best friend didn't get along for that period of time. But as of late last year we started hanging out again and it's like all 3 of us never missed a beat. That's how good of friends we are/were. If he doesn't listen though this will be the second time he has done this. Oh and I even told him right after I met her and it started going good that he better not try anything. At the time he said he wouldn't.

starts trying to make a move on a girl that you like? I mean he's the ladies man and most girls think he's hot so if it comes down to me vs. him I have no chance. It was going well with her for awhile until she stopped talking to me but this probably explains why. Oh and talking to him won't do shit. He gets shady as fuck when it comes to chicks.
