Cool. Thanks for the info. The reason I want to start bigger is because, like you said, I want to stretch safely. If I start at a 14 it'd take 3-6 months to stretch safely from what I've read, so I may as well shave off as long as I can. What I've been reading has said wait at least 2 months between each stretch and don't go up more than one gauge at a time. I've also seen pictures of blowouts that occurred from people trying to stretch too fast and that's a good deterrent.

I believe what you are thinking of is called a dermal punch. They are designed to be used for biopsies. I considered that but then figured if I ever wanted to take the jewelery out and let it heal back up that wouldn't be an option. I think I'll start at 8 or maybe 6 if it's possible and stretch my way up to a 1/4" or 1/2".

Is there a maximum recommended gauge for the initial piercing of an ear lobe? I'm too impatient to stretch all the way from a 20 to what I want. I'm thinking of starting at an 8.

This is indeed something I desperately want to do. It was actually what I originally hoped to do right out of high school but I figured the career opportunities in graphic design were better. However the CA school has a 90% placement rate. I'm not sure what the placement rate for the FL school is. I have to ask them next time I talk to them.

The additional 2 year program will be $40k for tuition plus living expenses. That program however qualifies for federal aid. I couldn't tell you right now what I'd make. I've talked to admissions counselors at both schools but neglected to ask that. Most of my questions were just about the portfolio reviews and stuff like that. While ya'll have me thinking about it, are there any other similar questions that are important to ask the school that I may have forgotten?

How much do you have to borrow to pay for this schooling? It would be prudent to forecast your expected earnings, and how much you expect to pay for this education. I'm projecting somewhere around $22k to $24k. The program is only $12k but apartments in Hollywood are outrageous.
-
Actually after looking at it some more I think that program is designed as a stepping stone to the certificate program and nothing else. The certificate program is actually the one you CAN get federal loans for.

The problem is that I have been doing research for the last few days and I can't find any other way to finance school.

I can't say that I've ever heard of any vocational school that was accredited by the state's board of private and vocational schools not being eligible for Federal Financial aid (stafford) unless the school itself doesn't accept Title IV funding (which usually means more students). On that note, there's lots of folks in skydiving who had their schooling done and careers established before they began skydiving. Most know I took a nine year break from skydiving after the military/Desert Storm/undergrad and grad school. The sky was still there and so were some of the same old faces. Some had grown and some were still in the same place they were when I started skydiving in 1981 and are still in the same place to this day. Get on with your life, learn, grow, excel, come back. You may even be able to ply your trade for the advancement of skydiving later. If memory serves, Bill Booth was an English(?) teacher and he's taught us a lot. I don't know what the deal is but for some reason this one year program isn't eligible for loans but the 2 year program at the same school that I would be going to after the one year program is eligible.

Thanks for the opinions guys. I actually considered the working first then going to school thing but I'm having trouble finding a decent job. I'm waiting to hear back from the TSA which would pretty much pay enough to cover the 1 year. I plan to go to a visual effects school. I figure the pay PROBABLY wouldn't be much more than a graphic designer. My guess is high 20's to mid 30's, I could be wrong though. As far as military options those are out the window. I was rejected from active duty Army based on my medical prescreen.

I found a school I want to go to really badly. The students put out excellent work (I have a second choice where the work isn't such high quality but is still good). The issue with the school I want to go to is that it is a trade school and doesn't qualify for federal student aid. The only loans I can get are private loans and since this particular loan is designed specifically for people enrolling in trade schools they really screw you over. There is no deferment period at all. You have to start repayment pretty much right after disbursement. The main reason that is bad is because the admissions counselor at the school said they don't recommend having a job because of how intensive the program is. There is an interest only repayment plan where you pay only the interest while in school. I think with the little bit of college savings I have left combined with what I could get for my main and reserve I would be able to make payments on the interest until I get out (1 year later) and could get a job to pay that off before going back to the same school to do another more specialized program (which qualifies for federal loans).

Toilet paper: hang it overhand or underhand?

That was great. How'd you find that? -
I can't say my girls ever have that problem. I'm always free. Give me a call.

I only wish I could have seen it in NY. Lea Michele has an amazing voice.
-
We liked it better without you.

It has a few good songs. I was gonna go see it in Chicago but totally forgot about it (started the same day Summerfest ended, that was a huge distraction). Anyway I was wondering if anyone had seen it. Is it worth the 2 hour drive up to Milwaukee to see it?

Have fun.

No problem. After pulling it and debating long and hard, and getting a few opinions, I decided to make it public again. The people that talked to me about it made me realize it went so far as to be important as a learning tool. Yeah, it's not even the $15 because like pc said thats not that much. It's the absurdity of not being allowed to park on the street. You're right though, especially knowing that with 30 seconds worth of work I could have saved myself $15.
-
Today is off to a shitty start. My dad wakes me up to ask why my car is on the street. I tell him I forgot to pull it into the driveway. Then I ask 'why? Did I get a ticket?' he says idk. So I promptly get my ass outside. Sure enough, $15 ticket just for being parked on the street at night. What bullshit!

Not even a little. I finally heard back from the Army about 2 weeks ago. I got rejected on medical grounds. I'm not ready to go back to school and idk what I wanna do with my life. I got no direction. Oh, and I can't find a job to hold me over till I decide what I wanna do with my life.

Meh, couldn't sleep because I was having weird dreams. It's been happening quite a bit lately (the dreams). I sleep more but I don't sleep well because the dreams keep waking me up. I think it has something to do with depression. Not sure though.

Morning.

Yeah because in high school when I played football after the game I'd go up to players smack them on the shoulder say "good game" and that would cause my coach to try and pull me back. Oh yeah and I used to get punished by my coach for my saying "good game". Use some common sense.

Expulsion is a little over the top. If you were in a bar and walked up to some dude hit him on the shoulder and proceeded to talk shit directly to his face would you expect him to walk away? If he did the same to you would you walk away? Honestly Blount may have been wrong but Hout is just an idiot. If he thought he was gonna smack a dude on the shoulder and talk shit right to his face and that dude was gonna walk away he's obviously stupid as hell. You people seriously need to lighten up.
