See? I knew I was wrong.

Well, Upndownshop and I zig zagged our way from Florida to California and back last year. In 4 months we hit 21 states and drove 85,000 miles, or something like that. J? You there? You have all of the numbers. How far did we drive? ALOT!!!!!!!!! It was an AWESOME trip and I am so glad I got to do it with him. I would have killed anyone else if I had to be confined to that truck for that long. If that's not a test for the future, I don't know what is!! It looks like we passed, right Honey?

Yeah, they told me about that. The advisor that I spoke with said they were preparing students for tests and decided to go ahead and teach students as well. My problem is that I have spent WAY to much time and money going to school to have found a "good deal" and waste it on a "non-accredited" school. Unfortunately, I spent a year, 3 terms I think, at a "university" that said all of their classes would transfer, and NONE did when I eventually went to another community college. I had to take the same classes over. I can't afford that mistake again.

Have you ever heard of this place? Apparently it's an online college. They say they are accredited, but I can't find anything about them

How do I find an old Marine recruiting poster...
jumpergirl replied to jumpergirl's topic in The Bonfire
I finally got a chance to scan the picture I have. I've emailed it to a few people (including, you, NIghtJumper) in the hopes that someone can help. Any more suggestions? I have called the local recruiter's office, the recruiter's office in PA where he was stationed, the Marine Archives Department, and several other places. I have it all in a notebook in my truck. I started this project 5 years ago, and gave up after a while. This time, I am determined to find it. I wish my grandmother was a little more understanding and would tell me if she has one or not. I can't even find out if she has one that I can get my hands on when she passes. It seems that it will be easier searching the long way, like this, than getting it from her, if she even has it. Thanks again for everyone's help! It means alot to me and I appreciate every single suggestion/hint/link/offer. -
I don't remember exactly. Hamburger or turkey or veggie grounds I guess. Maybe tomato sauce. It'll tell you on the package.

Chili-O Chili Mix is THE best!!! I love it!!! You can find it at the grocery store with the other spices.

I bet you're right. Please people, if you feel the need to reply to NWFlyer, do so in another thread. This is too important to me to have it moved because someone gets their panties in a wad. -

Ahhh... good to know. I'll pass that along to my girl friend. Her son is 15. She might want that tidbit in a few years. -

I had to take the ASVAB in high school and did well on it (I guess). I was hounded for at least a year by the Army and Marines. I finally had to tell them I have asthma and a bad knee and they quit calling. I didn't realize that was all it would take or I would have done it sooner. -

Not a chance! -
Ditto. I drive 40 miles one way, 4 days a week. It's worth it to me because I do love my job.

I was able to narrow it down to the time he was actually in PA. Mom says from April 1961 to June 1964. He was a recruiter there somewhere. His records say "US Marine Corp Recruiting Station Pittsburgh, PA" and "4th Marine Corp District Philadelphia, PA." Would that mean anything in this search? -

_____________________________________ Just for the heck of it, I checked e-bay and they show 61 items under 'U.S. Marine Posters'. You just never know. Chuck Yep, I just checked all of those. No luck. I am pretty sure it was a local poster, not used nationally. I've called the local recruiter's office here, but had to leave a message. Their answering machine message had me laughing all afternoon: "Congratulations, you have reached the Marines. Leave your name, number, and address and we will be right there." -
Good luck! Let us know what he says.

I was able to narrow it down to sometime between 1948-1960. That probably won't help much, though. -

He was career, so I don't know the exact year(s). I did call my mom, but she wasn't home. I would imagine it would have been during WWII, but that's only a guess. Thanks for your help! I do appreciate it so much. -
I don't like beer, but when a place doesn't have my wine, I'll drink a Smirnoff Ice.

I'll scan it and post it tonight or tomorrow. I want a copy of that poster so badly. My Grandpa was my hero and still is. He died a week after my 7th birthday. I remember it like it was yesterday and it was a little more than 21 years ago. I don't really know where to start, so I started with the local recruiting office, like I said in my first post. I called a few offices in Pennsylvania, too. I do have a copy of his military record... would that help at all?
