  2. You want to talk about coming full circle... I am, at this moment, 7.4 miles from the place of my birth. It's weird to be home again. If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb
  3. I was born on March 27, 1958 at 1:45 PM. This will be my last post as a 47-year old. Thanks, Shannon. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb
  4. Yep. Exactly that. All over the world. And everyone pays taxes to the country in which the money was earned. Easy. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb
  5. I'm very eccentric. Mmmm... Getting an idea of how someone sees their place in the universe would be a start. The narcissists of the world are best avoided no matter what. And if their narcissism doesn't improve as they age (for some, it does), then it's best to continue avoidig them. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. 7. She's waiting for the clock to strike 1:45 PM so she can begin her 49th year. "I know lots of things. Two plus two is four. Carson City is the capitol of Nevada..." "He knows too much. Take him out back and give him what's comin' to him." "Yeah, doc, take me out back and give me what's comin' to me..." As I recall, that round went to Bugs too. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb
  8. You do know what you just wrote, right? I have disagreements with lots of people and still stay friends. I'm not talking about disagreeing with someone's point of view, Ron. I'm talking about people who go out of their way to be mean, to cause trouble, to upset those around them. As I said, if someone does it online, he'll do it live and in-person, eventually. But if you're not letting that many people "in" from the start, you're not going to experience the consequences of befriending such people, so although the approach is different, the outcome is pretty much the same--avoidance of "bad eggs." rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. 9. Happy Birthday Rhonda! See... now we've sent you one as well! We don't always agree, but it's nice to be here. Keep up the good work. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb
  10. Yes dear. Just remember who I was agreeing with at the time. In point of fact, I like Sangiro and all the moderators better than I like you. But you were still right. To some extent, but for myself, I prefer to tell my friends what I really think. As casual acquaintances? Yes. Quite nice in person. That comes from having sufficient social skills to avoid being punched in the nose. But my experience is that if you actually befriend such people and offer them a place in your life, it falls apart pretty quickly. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. 11. Once again, we disagree. I think there are some instances of that, but not mostly. And certainly not in SC. But wrong by whose standard, Ron? Yours? Mine? There are a lot of times when I see people write things I just plain old don't like, but I may be the only person who sees it that way. For example, I very much enjoy a good troll, but I don't enjoy a mean troll. And, IMO, mean trolls do reflect the character of the person who posts them. Well, what do you mean by that, exactly? That we're not responsible for the words we write, and those words do not reflect on us at all? That it's okay to write any old thing you feel like, no matter how mean and offensive, because the internet isn't real? It is real. It's not the entirety of life, but it is real. And your words are a reflection on you. My experience has been much different. Superficially, I agree with you. For example, in real life, the gaps in my sentences (as well as the occasional stutter) are apparent, whereas here, they are not. But what I think isn't any different, because my mind doesn't undergo some metamorphosis when I log off. And I'm pretty sure that's true for everyone else too. And if someone thinks it's okay to be mean online, you can be sure that it will come out in "real life" eventually. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. 13. Nope, but I went ahead and signed up. Skydiving Forums sent me a birthday greeting, which I thought was kinda cool. Who knows what this one will do? It'll be interesting to see just how many message boards this community can actually support without collapsing in on itself. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. 14. Dearest, darling daughter, You're not too big to spank. Thanks everyone. For my birthday, I'm going to do laundry, go grocery shopping and contemplate my resume. I may also clean the turtle tank (hint, hint, Beck). It's still too cold to do anything (although I've been wearing flip flops when I go out--and people sure do look at me funny), but the sun is shining, and that makes it a wonderful day. 48 isn't so bad. At least I've got two years to go before I'm 50. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb
  15. I think that by the year you were born, some major upgrades were done to the personality type--most notably the sense of humor. Have a wonderful birthday, Betsy, and give Greg a big hug from me. (And if Remi shows, you know what to do. ) rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. 17. It's not a question of popularity or political correctness, Richard. It's a question of politeness and character. If someone can't play nicely here, why would he play nicely in person? Is there some free pass given out that says, "You can say anything you want online, and it won't count in real life?" I guarantee you that it doesn't work that way, and if you have no credibility in the virtual world, there's no reason to accord you any in the real world. That goes double for people who don't keep their word. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb
  18. Do you really think you're going to enjoy doing solos for the entirety of your skydiving career? This isn't just another internet message board, y'know. It's a community wherein most of the participants know each other personally. Alienating all of them for the sake of what you perceive to be humor is going to make the time you spend on the dz very lonely. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. 19. Actually.... I think RL makes you so HOT you can't stand it. Have you ever thought of just asking her out instead of being a jerk to her? I think you give her hot flashes of delight. Go ahead and just ask her out already and get this sexual tension out of the way for all of us you two... I think you've hit on the single point of agreement I have with Mr. Hawkins. Not a chance. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb
  20. So how does it feel to be 48? (Just checkin' so I know what to expect.) Happy Birthday.

  23. Apparently not. Mugrage wasn't shot in the chest. He was shot in the back. Martin apparently made death threats to the family on other occasions. The 2002 calls to the police (actually a visit to the station) occurred because someone sprayed weed killer on Martin's lawn. That was the last time he contacted the police. According to the neighbors, Martin would sit on his porch and shoot birds with a BB gun. Martin has been charged with premeditated murder, and his bail is set at $2M. Mugrage was known as a "good kid." All the stories are consistent so far. Exactly. But I do believe it's possible to tell these people from the rest of the world if you pay attention and don't simply write off their odder behaviors as "eccentric." rl Links to most recent stories: http://news.google.com/news?sourceid=navclient&aq=Larry%20Mugrage&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGLJ,GGLJ:2006-11,GGLJ:en&q=Larry+Mugrage&sa=N&tab=wn If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. 24. It's not always fair (or a good idea) to shut down everyone else's discussion simply because one person can't behave maturely. [...] Stopping the useful communication in the event of a PA seems to me to be simply caving in and giving the PA poster what they want. Okay, agreed to all that. Just ban the poster. Make it unworthwhile to make a personal attack by giving someone a time-out. I can already see the problem with that solution, however, because then people will be talking about the PA instead of the topic. I just hate to see the PAs deleted as if they never were. Better to know what (who) one is dealing with. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb
  25. Unfortunately for you, none of them were yours. As others have said, humor is in the eye of the beholder. And in my own view, the PAs say a lot more about the person making the attack than about his target. I do wish, however, that PAs would not be deleted. I'd rather see the thread locked. Deleting PAs gives the attacker a free pass because people are kept in ignorance of his character. Nothing new there. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from.
