I try my hand at this one for you. Cast distance is going to be affected by lure wt, line wt, and rod stiffness. With lighter lures, you need a more flexible fishing rod. More important is the flexibility of the tip. It helps to propel the lure when casting. That is one of the reasons you see pro's with about six or so rods at one time ready to go. Different tools for different jobs. Now, if you were to only have one or two, to handle many different types of fishing etc. Go for a nice 6' med. action rod. It will say the action and the recommended lure wt. right on the rod. Try to get away from the spincast when you can. From my experience they cause a lot of resistance on the line thus limiting your casting distance. If you don't like baitcasters, then get yourself a nice spinning reel. The drag settings and casting ability of both of these far outweigh the cost difference of just using a spincast. Hope that helps in some way.

I think what you said has a lot of merit. Because so many dz's have a left hand pattern, we get used to doing left hand approaches. We stick with what we are comfortable doing. I have just very recently started doing rt. hand 270's I used to always do left hand because that is what i was used to. Just my $.02 Never look down on someone, unless they are going down on you. -

Hey Robert, Brandy(packer) and i launched some out of the otter where we both floated like someone else already suggested. We also launched two rodeos with one set floating and one diving out. To dive, you have to push out real hard and work like hell not to roll it over. Make sure you get some pics, or take CG along to snap some digi's. Hey Dave, my thoughts are with you and all the aggie family today. I drove by a church the other day where a funeral was held for one of the victims five years ago. I just happened to be driving by on that day as well and wondered what the helicopters were doing. When i drove by, and saw all the corpsmen standing at attention down the front walk, tears came to my eyes, much like they are right now as i remember that day. It was an incredible show of support and loyalty, something that i was not a part of during college, but something that i will never forget seeing.
