The only Lightnings I've seen for sale are the ones Saskia pointed to below. The new plane in Temple rocks tho. I'm excited. I've already been talking to the new owner about getting a CRW boogie going there in June. More info to come..
-
Yeah. The CRW sport is growing so used Lightnings are hard to find. Especially 143's. And what makes it worse than freefall canopies, is that while a freefaller may graduate from a Sabre to a Stilletto to a Velocity, but other than changing sizes cuz of weight gain :-) CRWdogs tend to keep the same canopy for years. You'll get a lot more use out of a new Lightning than you would a freefall canopy, because people tend to always want the latest and greatest freefall canopies.. Heck, I bought my first 113 new. Bought my second one used only because my first one was in the shop for some major repairs! The last one was bought new because my first one was lost somewhere in the jungles of Spain never to be seen again.

I believe that.. For years, CRWdogs who jump rigs with tuck-tab riser covers always open them right before exit. Especially in competition, you can't take the chance of off-heading openings..

Coffeemaker with a timer :-) They're cheap and when you wake up the coffee's already made!!

You always gotta bounce proof the last page of your logbook! Tis important ya know :-)

Southern Ireland is definitely Euros. I've spent several weeks in Dublin and they switched to Euros a few years ago. W
-
They're not computer generated - after you ask your question, you answer someone elses :-)

I can't fathom anything wrong with putting it around the housing. I teach a lot of CRW so I've disconnected a lot of RSLs over the years, and that's where we always stow them. Tucking it under the riser has it inevitably coming out and flopping around. W

Plates and screws: Leave them in or get them out?
faulknerwn replied to MooChooser's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
That's interesting the barametic pressure bothers you. Maybe it depends upon where they are you in your body. I've had a plate and screws in my arm for 7-8 years now, and never notice them at all. Doesn't matter what the weather is doing - it just feels like my arm... Weird. W -
Are AADs required in (Your country here)
faulknerwn replied to skypuppy's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Empuriabrava exempts CRW jumpers from the AAD requirement. -
It certainly appears that way to me - It certainly helps you speed up enough to catch faster canopies. Its a lot easier to tell when you're comparing yourself to a target in the sky than the ground however. I also know on more than one occasion, we've had a CRW load far off the airport, and the only people who made it back are those who used their front risers - it definitely makes a difference.
-
Hmm.. I'll remember that next time I find myself behind a CRW formation and desperately needing to catch up. If you pull a little front risers it increases your forward speed. If you pull a lot of front risers it increases your descent rate. I'll shoot accuracy on my front risers all the time by changing my angle of attack. I use it for CRW all the time.

FYI - USPA decided at the February meeting to continue issuing CRW awards. W

Would you come to Baghdad to make a jump?
faulknerwn replied to Nopullmike's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Hmmm. I've got a friend who's been making lots of night jumps in recent years all over Afghanistan :-) Hop and Pop's but no CRW - what's up with that? He'd probably go for it, though I'll wait till the chance of getting shot goes down a bit... W -
Its not bad at all once you get used to it. I used contacts for years until I had Lasik... But it does suck losing one skydiving and flying in on one eye :-)
-
Pasi just created a great website about CRW history - check it out. http://skydivehame.com/cf/index.php

The drop zone hopefully will be re-opening sometime in March. The new owners will be bring a Pac-750, and all the jumpers better bring their beer because I don't think any of us have ever jumped one before!!! W (And Cessna rock!)

Altimeters and reaction times
faulknerwn replied to pincheck's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Exactly. I'm the opposite - I grew up with all digital clocks and all digital watches. I have to actively concentrate to read a clock, and I have to think to understand an analog altimeter - while digitals just tell ya what you need to know! "Its 3.5" not- hmmm the needle is clockwise of the 3 so that means its greater than 3 and less than 4.. -
In 4-ways and small stuff like that, they work great. On big ways we don't mix canopies because the canopies are enough different it can cause problems. But for casual 4-ways and such, no problem at all. W
-
I think the problem is that CRW has been gaining popularity in the past few years, so all of the used canopies have been snatched up and no one wants to part with them! W

I was all set to play tonight and when I went to login - you have to be running Windows :-( Isn't there someplace to play where you have a choice of OS's? Java people.. Sigh.. I wanted to play... W

CRW canopy needed at the Puerto Rico Boogie
faulknerwn replied to SkydiveAlabama's topic in Canopy Relative Work
If you don't find anyone there who has one, I have an extra one that isn't used much I can lend ya. Just cover the cost of the shipping. (And buy me a beer sometime when we meet :-) Wen -
I had one for a long time and never had any problems with it. Other people did however - they definitely don't stand up to abuse as well as some of the more expensive models.. W

Lots of tough guys! Tough guy You scored 75% masculine, 82% athletic, 36% exotic, and 43% refined! You love men, you love testosterone and you know it. You like a bad-ass man who knows what he wants. He isn't what you might bring home to mom but I don't think it really matters - he's hot! Someone like.....Vin Diesel. But let's face it, the whole point of this was to look at a bunch of hot guys. If you liked what you saw, please rate my test!

Hmmm. Ah - I dropped a negative sign. Let's see 1. -h^2= (1/(x+h)-1/x)(hx^2+xh^2) 2. h^2=( (x- (x+h))/(x^2+hx)) (hx^2+xh^2) 3. (-h^2)(x^2+hx) = (-h) (hx^2+xh^2) 4. -h^2x^2 -h^3x = -hx^2+xh^2 5. 0=xh^2-hx^2-h^2x-h^3x 6. (hx) (h-x-hx-h^2) = 0 Since as someone pointed out hx cannot equal 0 h=h^2+hx+x That's as far as I get
