that's a great idea. How do I know which cameras have a compatible mount?
-
Are they any good? I'd like to get a wider-angle lens on my XTI but can't justify the $700 on many of the recommended lenses when my 18-55 works for me well. Want versus need ya know. I saw these - http://cgi.ebay.com/Wide-Angle-Lens-For-Canon-EOS-Rebel-XSI-XTI-XS-450D_W0QQitemZ130289235072QQcmdZViewItemQQptZCamera_Lenses?hash=item130289235072&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318|301%3A0|293%3A1|294%3A50 on ebay, but saw an old thread that said they weren't any good. Opinions? In that thread it also mentioned Zenitar lenses but only in passing. Looking at the Zenitar lenses on ebay, they are considerably cheaper, but don't appear to have autofocus. So would I have to be taking my helmet off to take photos of the landings after using a different focus on freefall? Cuz that would kind of suck... Thoughts? W

The Austin newspaper is now reporting that it was a pickup sized meteor!
-
Same thing we saw. We're in Salado (halfway between Austin and Waco) and it was definitely well north of us.... I do agree that it looked like it burned up in the sky - it was still way high in the sky when it disappeared - and at that point it was almost straight north of us... Our pilot even saw it on descent!
-
Its funny because it was north of us. Our pilot saw it but we had a spot a touch long to the north so the 4 jumpers under were all facing south so none of them saw it. I don't know what it looked like in College Station, but it looked iike it was gonna hit within 10 miles of us!

Did anyone else at dzs in Texas see this? It was a giant fireball going from one horizon to another today! We actually had jumpers in the air and this frigging fireball appeared to go right by em! I'm just mad at myself for having a camera helmet in my hand but being too busy watching it to think to video it! I've seen a lot of meteorites in my life but nothing like this!

Especially since premature octuplets are at high risk of all sorts of future disabilities..

That sounds like a bad rigger. A hard pull can happen on any rig! I own 7 Racers and pretty much agree with everything Nick said. I get so nervous jumping rigs with exposed reserve pins.. They creep me out.. (Once had an AFF student knock a reserve pin loose on a 182 exit - that was on a Wings container - with an aggressive exit. And have seen numerous people have their reserve pins get knocked loose over the years with non-pop-top rigs... They're just so much more comfortable than other rigs - that's why I like them.
-
CRWdogs always joke about installing red center lines on their reserves - maybe one of em actually did it!

If you have an iphone, the free weather app Aeroweather will provide that information for an airport that has an AWOS... -
That's me too. I have a good setup for tandem video, and a cheap camera on a sidemount for AFF. That camera doesn't have a cameye or ringsight or anything. My video isn't the best because I'm not thinking about framing or anything other than doing what I need to do for the student.. If I was coaching someone and they wanted a "good" video I'd recommend outside video, but mine works well for debriefing purposes..

When we did the South American CRW record back around 2000, we jumped a Buffalo all week. It was a Brazilian military aircraft... -
#8 is Ed Naylor - I knew I'd remember it eventually :-)
-
John Poteet is the one with the wild hair, and if I ponder long enough I can remember the guy in the red.. Its on the tip of my tongue..
-
Does anyone have the correct address for SCR forms? Some jumpers at my dz just had theirs returned because of a bad address..
-
Its all in preference - I actually prefer the Sabre 1 over the Sabre 2s... But definitely get a bigger size - 1.3 will be way too small for you at this point.

Altimeter limits/ Did I get ripped off?

You guys never jumped Forrest McBride's Green Machine! He had a huge engine in that 182, and even despite the fact that he was far from a dainty fellow, we screamed to altitude. We would normally take off 10-15 minutes after the regular 182 for formation loads. I went to 17-18000 feet in that plane on numerous occasions, and it didn't feel like it took much longer than a regular Cessna took to 12k. -
I remember getting to the train station, then having to take a bus, and then walking about 1/2 mile to the place.. One the way back I had new Japanese friends, one of whom dropped me off at the train station.. I had a Japanese person with me at the time which helped immensely in finding the place! (And getting all the stuff sorted out with their organization's membership, insurance, and bring cash - no credit cards there.)

Questions to ask when buying a new computer...

For old people - Macs! They don't crash like Windows, you don't have to worry about viruses, they're far easier to use.. My 65 year old parents figured out how to set up wireless networking on a Mac without even calling for help! -
Woah- Scammer trying to get me... on this site?!

The smaller canopy is slower and sinkier. It is "twitchier" though - the lines are usually shorter which will also make the canopy more responsive.. Same thing tends to exist in the canopy swooping arena. You'll find guys who wear a ton of lead weight in order to jump a bigger canopy because the bigger canopy will have more lift and is faster.. There's a reason Luigi doesn't jump the 39 in swoop competitions! What someone else said is that different styles of canopies in the same size generally fly about the same speed.. I.e. a Pilot 170 a Sabre 170 and a Stilletto 170 will all have about the same forward speed. They will have different turn speeds and such but the forward speed will be very similar.
