Newly addicted Skydiver girl - Sydney
gregpso replied to Scarletrose44's topic in Introductions and Greets
join skysurfer.com.au Aussie skydive forum I tend to be a bit different. enjoyed my time in the sport or is it an industry these days ?? -
So why bother having a bag search ?? Any one intent on taking a weapon just conceals on their person. I was not paroid when i was there. its a wonderful place with happy people but I just noticed the lack of security at main entrances. Would go back again in a heart beat if i had the $$$ Foot note In Australia I carry a hand gun to protect Government buildings but cannot take it home to protect my family !!! or citizens whilst off duty. I tend to be a bit different. enjoyed my time in the sport or is it an industry these days ??

I am an Aussie so do not undertand gun culture in the USA but... when we went to Walt Disney World in Sept last year.. you could just enter the world without search if you were not carry bags. I could have had 8 handguns strspped to my person !! I would have thought that airport style security walk throughs would apply a such a high profile Place. I wonder how many folk I walked past in the world that were packing heat!! Given the massive security at airport I was surprised at the lack of security there I tend to be a bit different. enjoyed my time in the sport or is it an industry these days ??

Goodbye... I am quitting skydiving
gregpso replied to fmmobley's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I do not know how old your are but it will never leave you and may be a spark will get you to come back. I have done very little in skydiving.( compared to you) I did 40 jumps in 1981 on the old rounds. gave up for good I thought. ( after a reserve ride) never gave it much of a thought for 28 odd years. My son in 2008 did a tandem. I watched. Thought I might jump one more time... yeah right !! 15 tandems and 3 AFF jumps. I am now having another break. (lack of $$$$$) My point being something will spark you some day to return .. you may or may not act on it. (the old risk/cost verses reward thing.) From what I have read you have had an outstanding run.. all the best. greg I tend to be a bit different. enjoyed my time in the sport or is it an industry these days ?? -
WEll done mate you got that out of the way early and can now be even more confident in the gear. I tend to be a bit different. enjoyed my time in the sport or is it an industry these days ??

After 40 jumps on round canopies years ago ... on my 3 to date AFFs on these new fangled square canopies.. I have plfed on all out of habit. My muscle memory will not allow a stand up landing. The first 2 could have been stand ups but the 3rd was a high flare and then drop (a good PLF meant no probs) Muscle memory is hard to beat. (even when the radio says stand up) I would love to do a stand up!! I tend to be a bit different. enjoyed my time in the sport or is it an industry these days ??

$4.50 per hour for cleaning staff at Disney world
gregpso replied to gregpso's topic in Speakers Corner
Someone is kidding me right. I have been told cleaning staff at Disney World hotels get around $4.50 per hour !! It cannot be true can it ? has any one in yor great land heard of unions. In Australia it would $15 to $18 per hour. No wonder my upcoming trip to DW is so cheap. Staying at Pop century hotel for 8 nights all theme park admissions free transport AND FREE COUNTER SERVICE DINING (spec promo) for the fall for $1315 per couple.. very good value Lucky I paid a few weeks ago before the aussie dollar died on the arse or ass as you say) Was 94 US now 82 US because bastard traders lump our economy with basket cases like greece, Anyway I will tip the cleaning staff a couple of bucks per day whilst staying at Disney World. Anyone got any advice on Disney World in Orlando I tend to be a bit different. enjoyed my time in the sport or is it an industry these days ?? -
If I was only paying $200 for a tandem I would gladly tip $20. Here in Aust they cost $365 I tend to be a bit different. enjoyed my time in the sport or is it an industry these days ??

Welcome back mate !! Get that A licence I tend to be a bit different. enjoyed my time in the sport or is it an industry these days ??

At around $40 per tandem or AFF you will not become rich but what a job getting paid to jump. Costs a bloody fortune to get your ratings first. I asked my favorite TM how much it had cost him to wear around the staff Polo shirt.. "I stopped counting after $25 thousand.!!!

welcome Nick you are going to have a blast. Starting at age 17 !!! A whole life time of jumping in front of you. Welcome also to poverty!!!!! I tend to be a bit different. enjoyed my time in the sport or is it an industry these days ??

finally the USA gets health care for all.. hopefully
gregpso replied to gregpso's topic in Speakers Corner
Looking from afar in Australia.. glad to see the USA finally gets a heaLth care plan passed. Most of us here are amazed that a great country like yours (yes most of us like the USA) would have 30 million folk without any cover. I saw on TV some people crying cause the govt was going to run health care. What you trust bloody insurance companies to run health care.. all they think about is making a buck and they make more bucks by denying health care. How can some doctors look at themselves in the mirror when they are employed by insurance companies to deny care!! The more they deny care the more bonus they get. ( SEE MICHAEL MOORE SICKO) No our health system is not perfect here but everyone is covered. Example a work friend almost cut his entire thumb off with a chain saw. Straight to dandenong Hospital specialist team assembled and 3 operations and a 2 week stay in hospital. The cost I hear you ask.... ZERO ZERO ZERO!!! All he had to do is sign a medicare form. Yes folk here take out Private Insurance if they want better facitities and quicker access for non urgent operations. Its true you can wait for 3 years for a knee operation but at least you get it for free. Pay extra for private health insurance you get it done now. (yOUR CHOICE) How do we pay for this ? a 1.5 % levy on salary unless you are on low incomes where you pay nothing. If people earn over 100 grand a year (for a single) they have to take up Private insurance to ease the burden on medicare... if they do not they pay an extra surcharge on their salary. We have had medicare for over 30 years now and if any polictical party ever dared to remove it they would be thrown out on their ASS or arse as we say. Glad to see you are finally joining the civilised world re health care. Next you can start on the cost of drugs. We have a PBS scheme were most drugs are capped at $30... of course if you are unemployed / on an pension or low income you pay aaround $3.50 maximum. All in all not a bad deal Socialised medicine... may be but works pretty good here (not perfect of course we complain about things but at least EVERYONE IS COVERED) AND IT HAS NOT SENT THE COUNTRY BANKRUPT. Aussie dollar 92 cents US and we do not owe China (a communist country) (Does that not concerned you .. a country that prides itself on capitalism and a while back the richest country in the world.. now in debt up to their ASS to China bloody hell !!!) i LOOK FORWARD TO FOX NEWS response to all this.. the most biased right wing channel I have ever seen. Most of us treat it like the comedy channel. Owned by a former Australian Mr Murdoch.. a true right winger if there ever was one. No I am not a leftie (and I do like yanks very nice people in the main) rather in the middle but health care for all is a no brainer !!! PS thanks for inventing the good sky dive gear 3 rings etc.. good stuff. I tend to be a bit different. enjoyed my time in the sport or is it an industry these days ?? -
I do not feel so bad now. Twice in my 55 jumps I have almost bought down a jump plane with a toxic one. The first was on a cessna on jump run for my first static line. The JM and pilot laughed. I thought to myself "How can you laugh at farts at a time like this" I laugh about it now though. I tend to be a bit different. enjoyed my time in the sport or is it an industry these days ??

Well done and keep going. I am doing AFF 1 in 2 weeks after 15 tandems. I tend to be a bit different. enjoyed my time in the sport or is it an industry these days ??

Welcome mate yes addiction it is. I am constantly amazed that so many who do a tandem and get the taste never come back again. I tend to be a bit different. enjoyed my time in the sport or is it an industry these days ?? -
10% gst. Income tax around $11000 out of $60000. Standard of living just fine. The Mrs also gets $60 per fortnight for 2 kids despite also working part time (around $27000 pa) OH yeah my son just got first home buyers grant of $15000 to buy first property. Oh yeah unemployment benefits never run out if you are looking for work. I suppose it sounds like Socialism to you but we still have a strong competive business sector. Do not get me wrong I love the States the people are friendly and a great place to travel but its the haves and the have nots. The middle class has been scewed. Experts are taking about $ for aussie $ very soon. Those banks over there re the sub prime etc have put you back. What would some of the great Presidents think now... the USA borrowing billions from Communist China just to stay a float. PS We still owe you big time for the second World war Thank you ! Thankyou! Thankyou ! Thanks General McArthur and troops Your finest hour. (Moon landings as well.. bravo !) Been a bit disappointing since then. I tend to be a bit different. enjoyed my time in the sport or is it an industry these days ??

Fox news is a big source of amusement over in Aust. (Yeah we get it on cable here) A bias unashamedly cheer squad for the republican party. Fair and Balanced My arse or ASS as you folk say. Hannity etc. i do get a good laugh out of it. Almost here organ music when Bush and Co are shown. No we cannot have the government run health care lets keep the corporate crooks running it so they can make more money by denying care to millions and paying off millions to the polictians Do I hate Amercia ? no I do not !!! I love the friendly people there just think your whole system needs reforming.... hopefully the current President can start. I tend to be a bit different. enjoyed my time in the sport or is it an industry these days ??
