I just bought a RioVolt sp90. Out of the box this thing is a piece of crap. Thats OK, it's probably while I got it at BestBuy in an open box for $70. then $20 rebate= $50 net. Rio doesn't support firmware upgrades on this model but you can do it anyway. Just go to the Rio site and download the lastest and greatest firmware upgrade for the sp100 model which has awesome reviews at amazon and sells for $150. Change two things in the file and flash the firmware on the sp90 and bang, you've got a $150. mp3/wma/wav player for $50. It now thinks it's a sp100 and will take any future firmware upgrades that are released. Only things you don't get are-backlite screen and remote in cord. The thing doesn't skip and if you use wma files you'll easily hold over 200 songs per cd. Savings= 6.66 jumps Ain't technology great!!! Opie If your not on the edge, you can't enjoy the view!

Just wondering roughly what time sunset is in the middle of March out there. Getting into SAN in the afternoon and trying to figure out if I can make a jump that day. Opie If your not on the edge, you can't enjoy the view!

I use them on my canopies and really like them. Just a little less bulk the container and easy to slide the grommlets over if you pull your slider down. You can install them yourself if you follow the directions carefully and keep the lines in order. However I've heard of someone (or read) that did it wrong so if you are unsure get them checked by a rigger when your done. Should only take them 30 seconds to see if you closed them properly assuming your kept the lines in order. I had one of mine get seated off a little (they get egg shaped after a few jumps) so the tab was sticking out to the side instead of neatly within the risor loop. If this happens just have your rigger tack the tab to the risor to hold it where you want it. Opie If your not on the edge, you can't enjoy the view!

Hey all, If we have 12 days left maybe we should put in our requests for this new site before they sign the contracts. 1. A private airport, so the city doesn't feel the need to send out 50 cops to protect us from ourselves, I mean when was the last time you felt the need for police protection at your dropzone or boogie to keep you safe? No offense skydiving officers, just leave the guns & badges at home. 2. Beer truck that stays open till sunrise at least. After all it's those 4am conversations around the keg that we solve all of skydivings problems, right??? ok, next person Opie If your not on the edge, you can't enjoy the view!

First let me say thanks for sharing your info and efforts with us. I am a little unclear about what he has done with the canopies sent to him for the fix. Were all the attachment points replaced with something other than the type III tape??? Or replaced with new type III??? While I'm not happy about the $50. either, but I am more concerned with whether or not I should use this thing for a car cover. Opie If your not on the edge, you can't enjoy the view!

One of the drawbacks of the net is how easily someone can post advice to others when we really don't know their experience & knowledge level. In face to face situations you would be able to determine their personality and knowledge in a few minutes and take their advice with a grain of salt if neccesary. Those in the sport for bragging rights will fade away only to be replaced with new ones, don't let it get you down. When it comes to selling and buying gear it can be difficult to tell if someone living 500 miles away from you is qualified for the canopy yet. Hopefully the seller will do his best to only deal with qualified people but I would also look for the buyers friends, S & TA, dropzone operater, etc. to keep lower time jumpers using the proper gear for his/her level. If you know a friend who has advanced to rapidly for his/her own good, wouldn't you try to caution them? Mainstream or Extreme? This arguement has been going on for years. The advances in equipment and training have allowed the sport to grow nicely. Most of the time that I hear someone argueing than it will soon be mainstream it's comming from a lowtimer or an oldtimer that has just got back into the sport and is amazed by how nice the new equipment is. But as years of experience accumalate you are forced to remember the high price some pay losing a friend to the sport and seeing many others I know and do not know have their lives changed forever by serious injuries convince me we will never be mainstream. When most of the general public see these accidents happen they cannot understand why we still choose to continue, and with the lawsuit happy attitude we see in so many of them I am glad to see them go home from their one tandem uninjured and brag to their friends about being a skydiver only to never return. I jumped a sabre for a long time with no major complaints. PD is a top notch canopy company, but for them to say the sabre isn't known for it's hard openings is at best-- Entertaining. For any of the newer jumpers, we're speaking on the original and not the new sabre 2 canopies. Opie If your not on the edge, you can't enjoy the view!

"but CASA's let you do big ways" dude, good skydivers let you do big ways not CASA's. Granted the wffc has an awesome variety of aircraft, lift capacity will be more than enough at summerfest. Roger never seems to have trouble finding aircraft, including your beloved CASA's when needed. "Rogers moralistic attitudes" Roger's beliefs are his and he will share them with you if you ask, but I don't think you'll find anyone who feels he pushes them onto anyone that does not ask. I'm 1 1/2 hrs NW of Peoria, or an hour south of the Quad City area. Two hours to Skydive Chicago which is the closest turbine dropzone. Opie If your not on the edge, you can't enjoy the view!

Well lets see here. Now Feb. 4th and no anounced site yet, St. Joe, Mo. recently declined to host and Dav. IA is not interested this year appearently. As you pointed out self imposed deadlines haven't been met and the bulletin board on the freefall.com site has been shut down. I'll be placing my bet against any convention happening this year. While I hope they do get something worked out, I have pegged out my fun meter many times in the past at the wffc. Attended every year from 1992-2000. Last year I went to Summerfest at SDC looking for something smaller and quieter and that's just what I found. SDC has awesome facilities, If you haven't been there yet just imagine an entire airport/dropzone built from scratch by skydivers just for skydivers and a nice image forms in your mind, that's what you will find at SDC. The crowd was in the 300-400 range and I would expect a larger turnout this year if no wffc happens or is announced much later than yesterday if you know what I mean. I currently use videowave 4 and am considering upgrading to version 5 or switching to Final Cut Pro. Does anyone have any reccomendations? How intuitive is FCP for a new user, I've seen some work done with it and was impressed. Worried about how long it would take to learn a new program vs. upgrading videowave.
