  1. Fractured a rib on a hard opening. Doc said I have to wait until it heals before I jump again. What he doesn't know is that I did 35 jumps while it was fractured. Your rights end where my feelings begin.
  2. I've packed like that for about ~350 jumps without any issues doing so. Haven't had a horseshoe while using it so I can't say if it will clear in a live situation. I haven't heard any reasons not use that method, beyond some vague mumbling about it wearing out your PC quicker, so I'll keep on using it. Your rights end where my feelings begin.

Why? Because I don't like to be treated disrespectfully by the companies whose products I'm supposed to pay money for? Your rights end where my feelings begin.

    Mirage Ad

    1) I thought the ad was funny. It certainly has a less than serious tone about it.. Creative? No I'm in agreement with you there. But, a light-hearted, and fun ad nonetheless. 2) I would argue that there is a difference between an anatomical "picture of a naked woman," and a picture of a woman taking off sexy panties with high heels on. Can't see the difference? Well, your loss. 3) You must feel demeaned quite often. Advertising is bullshit, we all know it. Its all about trying to make you buy a product that you a) probably don't need, and b) could find elsewhere. But to feel demeaned by it? Get real. Again, I don't think the ad was seriously implying that girls will fuck you if you jump a Mirage. The only girls that might, almost (but probably not) care about your rig, are those that skydive.. And they make up what? Maybe 0.5% of the female population, if that? I also don't think the ad was trying to insinuate that you are so stupid as to think that girls will fuck you because you jump a mirage. I think, and I'm no expert here, that it was A JOKE. A crass joke? Sure, maybe. But I'm sure you've been, and will continue to be exposed to much worse at the dropzone, at the bar, on the internet, and maybe even in the grocery store when you accidentally look at the cover of a Maxim magazine. So, in summary-- You are undeniably entitled to your opinion, and I to mine. Don't buy a Mirage if you don't want one, I certainly don't give a shit. Would you be as upset if Mirage posted an ad of a man dropping his boxers with the caption "Nothing makes them drop faster than a woman in a Mirage!"? Or would you see that as an obvious attempt at humor? I don't care what they were trying to achieve with it or what they were trying to imply with it. Whenever I see sex or nudity used in ads I assume, if it seems its targeted to males, that the advertisers really have so low opinion about men in general that they can sell what ever crap to them by showing some skin. I do my best to avoid ads in general since it seems most ad agencies think that the best way to advertise something is the piss of the customer, since any publicity is good publicity so might as well as get people pissed off cause that way they'll at least be remembered (and talked about). Would I be offended if the genders were reversed? Unlikely, but mainly because there isn't a negative stereotype of women where as men are generally considered to be so desperate for a fuck that they'll do anything to get laid. Even so as to buy mediocre overpriced products advertised with titties. I'm not saying it doesn't, obviously it does since it is used so much, I just wanted to give my reasons why I felt offended by the ad since people were wondering. So to recap: whenever an advertisement, mainly targeted to males, implies (even slightly) that buying the product increases the chances of getting laid, I assume that the advertisers in question really have so low opinion of men in general that they think we are apes driven by our basic instincts. And that is why I was offended and continue to be offended whenever its done again. Your rights end where my feelings begin.

Please do inform me how exactly it is 'fun or creative' to take a picture of a half naked chick with a rig. Thats like the advertisement version of 'your mom' joke. In the civilized world (outside of US of A) there is nothing racy about a naked woman. However I personally do feel that it is demeaning towards me as male to think that you can sell, whatever it is that you're selling, by showing some female skin. If that makes me an uptight über serious person then so be it. Fact is I need to buy a new rig and I had considered Mirage as one option. After those two ads I won't buy one. Only if you define "great marketing" as "getting people to talk about your company". But the question is, has all that talk led to an increase in sales? That's the true end goal of marketing... marketed good enough to make you post about it twice, which means it must have crossed your mind dozens of times to stick in your crawl so much! ya been sucked into their game! I could care less about their "game". I'm just offering a counter-point here for the debate. And even though it may have crossed my mind twice, it hasn't made me want to buy their rig. I figure there at two main types of people relative to this ad. The first group is those who either dislike the ads or think they are a nonsensical way to sell a skydiving rig. Let's call this group the "fuddy duddies". The fuddy duddies aren't going to be more likely to buy their rig because of these ads, so their marketing ploy is wasted on them. And in fact, to those who are morally offended, it's probably going to guarantee that those jumpers go to some other manufacturer to buy a rig, so Mirage will actually lose some customers from this group, who might otherwise have purchased from them. The second group of people are those who think that it's cool to make sexual jokes in a glossy public magazine. I'll call them the "coolies". But are the coolies more likely to purchase the rig because of this ad? I don't know. But I would say that if they're choosing a rig upon which their life depends, simply because of a sexual advertisement, then they're not using the correct decision-making to guide their purchase. So the question of the day is: Are enough coolies buying Mirages to offset the losses from the fuddy duddies, leading to a net increase in sales? I'm also disturbed by how readily the coolies ridicule the fuddy duddies with name-calling, dividing our little community of skydivers, over this stupid series of ads. Attached is my idea of a good advertisement. It shows a dramatic photo, accompanied by explanatory text, that explains why a rig that WORKS is most important. Not a rig that's pretty, or a rig made by a company that uses sex to make people feel cool. I'm not opposed to the add because its nonsensical or because of moral reasons. I'm opposed to it because of what they want to imply with it. They, and anyone who uses naked women/sex in ads, want to imply that men are mindless simpletons running around with dicks in their hands yelling 'tits, boobies, tits'. And just by showing them bit of skin they'll buy any POS product you have to sell. If other men want be perceived as mindless drones running after pussy 24/7 its their problem. 10. You are more prone to collapse in deep breaks. Its your pick speed or collapse. If you don't brake you're guaranteed to have more speed. If you do brake you're not guaranteed to have your canopy collapse but you do increase the likelihood of it happening. Its not either or. Your rights end where my feelings begin.

  15. On my jump #93 I went from 220 sqft Navigator loaded at 0.92 to 170 sqft Sabre 2 loaded at 1.2. The winds were pretty much at zero during the jump. I knew even before boarding the plane that it was going to fly faster and it was going to come down harder. Exited the plane somewhere around 6,5k and pulled after few secs of FF. As soon as I got the canopy flying I realized just how much faster it was flying. After that I did a lot of practice flares and started preparing for the landing. When I was coming down on the final I flared somewhat too soon since the ground rush was much higher then what I had gotten used to but the landing beyond that was uneventful. I think I stood it up after few running steps. When you're coming down and start getting the ground rush just ignore the 'holy shit I'm going to bounce like a fucken balloon' thoughts and concentrate on the landing and the flare. And be ready to PLF. Your rights end where my feelings begin.
  16. I've had my visor freeze twice in freefall. The first time was more awful since it stayed frozen until I pulled and had an open canopy. The second time it actually unfroze in freefall so it wasn't that bad. Its an eerie experience to be in freefall with other people and not being able to see practically anything other then a small sector in the lower part of your field of view. 23. The Contour and GoPro don't use a rolling shutter. Small cheap cameras like the ATC2K use a rolling shutter. You sure about that? Ever watched a propeller/rotor filmed with GoPro? Like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Zh-T4ifPh4 from 0:10 onwards. Interesting. I bought an ATC2K a couple years ago. When using it on my bike, every bump causes the entire scene to wiggle like jello for a few moments. Some research turned up that the cause was the rolling shutter. This year I bought a Contour, and have never seen any such quirks. Perhaps the difference might be the rate at which the rolling shutter is operating. Edit to add: Some googling seems to indicate you are right. The video does not show any effects of rolling shutter. I think you are mistaking the rotors to appear curved due to a curved wide angle lense for a rolling shutter effect. The GOPRO is CMOS. From the GOPRO website: Sensor Type: 1/2.5" HD CMOS, 2.2µm-sized pixels Yes it has a CMOS sensor. No it does not mean it doesn't have a rolling shutter. Most CMOS sensors are using rolling shutters, it doesn't actually have a mechanical shutter its done electronically. 25. Opposing prostitution because of human trafficking is like opposing drinking alcohol due to drink driving. Just because some people do stupid illegal stuff while engaged in one activity does not mean that we need to ban the activity they were involved in the first place. The true reason why prostitution, porn, strip clubs etc. are opposed is due to feminism. Feminism is basically a sexual trade union which seeks to control womens sexuality. Porn, prostitutes etc. give men freedom from being controlled by one woman (and her pussy) which terrifies feminists. Your rights end where my feelings begin.
