Is the choice to butt land just something you do on every skydive with a tandem... or is the choice to stand up or slide in determined by how well your passenger takes the whole experience / weather. I have a tonysuit swoop suit that is very baggy. I'm 250 even out the door and have an average fall rate of 137 mph. (the natural arch coupled with actually arching cannot be good) I can say confidently that my exits are near perfect.. during my first 50 jumps I stressed heavily on my exits being bad and spinning etc.. Now I'm able to look at the group before me and turn myself around to look at the group behind me still on the plane while on the hill. (in short I have directional control on the hill and I hear that is good) The problem is - I'm jumping with someone that.. to be honest has no idea what he is doing and does not help much during 2 way RW dives.... based on video I've seen.. he goes out.. gets stable and just falls.. it is up to me to get to him. (Or it feels that way) I am posting a video here.. some of you may of seen. youre an idiot.....as you seem to think youre a jumper now - How many jumps is it now before someone is considered a skydiver? When I finished AFF I considered myself a skydiver but guess I was wrong. Is there a specific number in the sim? Can this be confirmed? Thank you for putting what I said in an earlier post into better words.. "because we can't get 4 legs to run" 70 jumps and I've seen maybe 5 tandems land for every jump. If I were a tandem master (I'm far from it) The equipment isn't mine.. I would not care about wear and tear on the gear when safety is the primary concern. If it comes down to me trying to stand up a landing and running over the student / cargo (whatever you guys call them) I would rather slide in on my butt. 2 legs is enough to fuck you up.. why add another set? So some days I can go out with a group and get to them, others it does not matter what I do.. it just does not happen. Couple of weeks ago I did everything except go into a full track and still could not get to the group. I also find that once I get below them.. I stay there.. no matter how much I try to slow down.. I don't get any further below them but don't get any closer either. Usually by around 8K or so I just say "fuck it" look around for others and seperate from the group. Really sucks because I feel with the amount of jumps I have .. this should be easy. I think most will say to get a coach and that is no doubt right. I don't exactly have a surplus of cash lying around for coaches and tunnel time. My legs stay out so I don't think I'm back sliding. I find it absolutely astounding that people that do not have a tandem rating, never preformed a tandem landing as an instructor find the need to chime in here. Is that the only way you could justify your post? Who cares if people that are replying have tandem ratings or not. Common sense goes a long way. Just because some people don't have the jump numbers does not make them totally oblivious. With respect.. having a D license or 15,000 jumps or TI ratings whatever doesn't make you better than someone with an A, nor does it mean you never make mistakes either. Anytime I'm asked about jumping I get 2 standard questions "have you see those bird suit things?" "have you ever put your arms back?" - If they see a video the tracking away is usually the part that gets a comment.. Now people will probably ask about swooping..
