  1. Orange1: About Gossett not quitting the military: I was wondering about Cooper possibly being in the middle of a major mental depression. Clinical. Not seeing anything positive in the future. Then he does the hijack, possibly for some crazy reasons that he rationalizes. Only in the comic books do people do bad things thinking they're evil. Everyone thinks they're good no matter what they do. 90% of America thinks they're average, right? But then after the hijack, things start going good, and life was not as bleak as he thought. So he stays in his chosen profession. Because he actually likes it when he's not all messed up in the head. So Gossett may have had more complicated things than a contract steering him to stay in the military. I've always asked myself: "Well: what the hell do you do if you did the hijack for some crazy reason, was successful, and know that if you spend the money you'll get caught? Hell you throw the money away, never do it again, and don't look back and go on with your life...unless you want to get caught, and then you try doing more crime"
  2. I have some limited experience in copying radio traffic. I don't think people listen and type 1 minute behind, especially if you're potentially doing XXX corrections...it's too much buffering for the brain between the ears and the fingers. Ckret can provide testimony from the op that transcribed the traffic, but I would expect it to be near real time...literally only seconds difference between the radio traffic and the TTY entry. So, if a timestamp appears in the TTY log when you start typing, that would indicate the start of a new bit of Radio Chatter. Then it would be unknown how long that particular burst of chatter actually took to happen in real life. It could be a 5 minute burst for all we know. The typing could alternate fast/slow/fast/slow until it was all done. It wouldn't have to be constant rate voice/typing transmission..because humans are in the loop...it's not a full machine to machine transmission. We can say that the Radio Chatter Burst HAS to have been completed before the next time stamp. But that's all we can say, right? SO: I'm guessing: The inaccuracy of any event, within an individual entry, is bounded by the next time stamp. IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH 1 MINUTE? Prove me wrong on this. [edit] I lost a post. inserting here. The jump zone as we all know depends on the pressure bump. The radar data and transcripts have to be time synchronized for that. I thought there was adjustment because of that? So while an individual log has precision between timestamps, (with unknown factor causing timestamp insertion) we don't know about absolute precision between different logs/radar. Supposedly the '72 map accounted for any adjustments? but we've not heard how far off each were, from one another.
  3. For the TTY machine in question, if I pause typing, how long of a pause is needed before a restart of typing causes another timestamp? Or: does the operator have to "do something" to insert a time stamp? Hit a special key/sequence or ??? There's lots of questions about this TTY log creation, that maybe you have the answers for and should summarize, or you're just guessing the answers for? It's not clear to me.
  4. Vancouver Lake is interesting as a DZ if predicted jump near Vancouver. Why: because it has huge surface area, almost rivaling the surface area of the Columbia, if you just include the 305 flight path crossing the Columbia area... So it increases the probability of it being a money catcher/delivery system. (with water being the carrier) It's also big enough to offset the lack of wind blowing to the west...i.e. money might land there, and get transported west by water. There's also less distance for money to travel, compared to the long way on the Columbia, from the 305 crossing Columbia area. See attached pic from Google Earth, showing Vancouver Lake and the money location. The only problem is there is one? water channel out of Vancouver Lake now, and it's to the north, north of the money site. (you can see white water there even) But what about 1971? That cleared farm land between Vancouver Lake and the money site is called Shilapoo Lake. The houseboat guy said: "don't know much about Shillapoo lake, other than the fact that it was originally called Shallow Pool Lake, and the "indianized" the name to make it sound more like a Native American name. " The 2nd attach is a topo map showing the region known as Shilapoo lake. You can see a thin curving blue line that's a stream. That alines with the curving green trees in the middle of the cleared land in the GE pic. Getting money to cross Lower River Rd seems difficult. But the 1996 information tells us that extreme flooding causes water levels to rise all the way to Lower River Road, at the Caterpillar Island area. We also don't know what the Shilapoo Lake area looked like in 1971. It may not have been that cleared farmland. We probably need topo maps from 1971 of the Shilapoo Lake/Vancouver Lake area, to muse further. I like any area that might be deep mud that would allow Cooper to auger in and not be found.
  5. I may have missed it, but I didn't think we had this confirmation of an interaction between Cooper and Scott on getting the airspeed right to get the stairs open. We knew Cooper apparently didn't know the operation, based on having to get info from Tina. But now we can say he probably didn't have firsthand knowledge of airspeed requirements for stair deployment. If he did, he might have specified an airspeed, rather than just flap position and wheels down, since that request seemed to be incomplete in terms of achieving the initial goal of stairs open in flight. It does raise the question of how the hell McNally got his stairs open. But we have very little data on the McNally hijack, so we'll have to just say "don't know" there. So this is good. I'm assuming Ckret's comment is from interviews with Scott that we don't have access to. It reminds me a lot of the McCoy interaction with the pilots, although McCoy was asking for a lot more detailed info for his jump (cause of his experience) Although I'm just repeating something Ckret has been trying to beat into our heads, this latest factoid makes me devalue the "flaps at 15 degree and wheels down" apparent high-knowledge-of-it-causing-right-airspeed. See if Cooper says one thing that appears to get him what he needs, but then it turns out to be insufficient knowledge and he has to grumble with the captain ...slow the f*er down...then we have to say Cooper was operating with opinions not perfect facts, just like we've said when flt ops was wrong about landing with the stairs. If we're going to harp on bad knowledge for non-Cooper players, we need to harp on bad knowledge for Cooper also. Some of this may be obvious to Ckret, but remember he's also reading some files we don't have access to. The "15 degree flap and wheels down" request, may turn out to be less informed knowledge than it appears...it might be just shotgun knowledge. p.s. I just learned something useful. When we break into FBI hq to steal the Cooper Files, whoever's assigned to tying up Ckret..don't use duct tape, they'll nail us right away with the National Forensic Tape File Database ..I didn't realize there was one! THE DEVELOPMENT OF A FORENSIC DATABASE OF TECHNICAL AND MANUFACTURING DUCT TAPE INFORMATION, E.G. Bartick and R.A. Merrill, AAFS Annual Meeting, Feb. 2000
  6. Hi Jo. What you just did is a good example of how not to get data. georger doesn't have to say anything about who he is, because it could be wrong anyhow. Why would you believe one thing someone says and not the other? I have a novel idea, let's just trust each other, and throw out obviously bad data. The way you find truth is to just assume everyone can be either "wrong" or a "liar". Truth gets created by correlating everything. We don't have to trust single source info, except in the case of maybe ckret..but we double check him to the best we can also. If georger doesn't have good thoughts, it will be obvious. This is the brave new world. Who you are matters less than the quality of what you say and the information you bring to the table. As long as georger says reasonable things and brings information or expertise to the table, he could be a dog for all anyone should care. You being Jo Weber means nothing. I evaluate you based on the information you bring. You guys do the same to me and everyone else. That's good.
  7. Hi Jo. The world of information gathering has changed a lot in the last 8 yrs or so. I would argue for the worse, since there is no privacy anymore. Like here's a good one: search for references to CIPAV and Larry Carr! JUST KIDDING AGAIN! (I'd swear the FBI has just one agent: Larry Carr who does all the work) I try to provide the original data, or a link to the source. If you don't believe something, I can provide more info on anything I've posted. Basically, in the last 5 years everything in the world has moved online. Amazingly even copies of 100 year old newspaper articles. Google News works well, although you have to pay for news articles. They do OCR of the newspaper text, which sometimes has errors. So trying the search in different ways is important. Interestingly, small town newspapers are good sources cause they tend to just run all the wire articles (AP/UPI). The noaa stuff was from the noaa. Found that 5 piece mother of pearl set on ebay. Found email addresses for the guys on the columbia river online (they had web pages) and just sent them email. Found the court cases online. Found email address for one SAGE guy online, and he lead me to a online group www.radomes.org where I found another SAGE guy. The nice photos of the Ingram bills came from the auction site that I published the url of. That's new because, well, the auction is new. Someone once told me the story of "stone soup". I think that's what we're trying to do here. Before you know it, we'll have a pretty good soup..! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stone_soup Oh and almost forgot Sluggo who is epic: I just accused him of being NSA/CIA and we were good buddies from then on!
  8. I know you're getting a lot of flak. Try to just pick one thing and get data, and come back with it. I'd suggest a front-on photo of Duane without glasses in the '70-'80 era. It would be useful in any case for a true sketch compare, since all eyewitnesses say Cooper had no glasses till the hijack commenced. I personally believe that the photos of Duane with black-rimmed glasses fake everyone out on the sketch comparison, because the sketch has relatively full black eyebrows, and Duane's black-rimmed glasses tend to match. I think the quality of the sketch comparison will go down substantially when Duane's real eyes and eyebrows (position, size etc) are revealed. (in '71 or that timeframe) You can prove me wrong with a picture.
  9. [someone may have better data, but this is better than no data.] For what it's worth, my NOAA 11/24/71 weather map showing the Portland station has the cloud cover circle (the circle at the other end of the wind barbs) about 60% black/filled in. Cloud cover at Seattle indeed was 100%. So we have to be sure where we're getting data on clouds from. I posted this before, but the jpg is attached again. I also attached the "decoder ring" for understanding the symbols. My read is that means 60% cloud cover at Portland. It could change over the day and night. But it does suggest that the cloud cover may have been broken. you can zoom in on the weather map to see the Portland detail. I left enough of the map there so you can see it really is from November 24, 1971
  10. Hi ckret. [example I'm thinking of: anchor of the dredge boat displacing money.] [edit: added photo of excavator on barge being used in current Columbia dredging operations, just for interest] I know I dragged everyone thru this before, and don't want to repeat. I'm inclined to agree with the testimony you provided of probable damage of the money thru the dredge, although it's worth double checking like you did on the rubber bands. Clamshell dredges are used on the Columbia I believe, and would be most likely to be able to move money without damage. Maybe ask the question "Are you sure no clamshell dredges were used, or any shovel dredges?". We spent most of our time discussing stuff thru the dredge. I was thinking more along the lines, now, of money being kicked up, but not thru the dredge. Maybe ask that question too: "Is it possible for a dredging operation to kick stuff up, without going thru the dredge" There's nothing to support that theory yet, but if we get to a point of agreeing on a long 5-6 yr. minimum time at Tena Bar, then we should at least rethink the dredge possibilities. Here's another thought: I've been reading about some of the problems caused by sediment from dredging operations. Changes in nitrite/nitrate levels caught my eye because of the mention of "salts" as possible purple staining cause. I was also thinking of potassium or sodium nitrate runoff from the Fazio farming operation as a source of "salts" It'd be good to have an expert show up with some US currency staining knowledge. Although the recent pics I have didn't show it, I believe some of the FBI bill pictures show severely black bills also. I think we all just thought "sun exposure". But there's nothing that backs that idea up. Since some bills are clean and some aren't, we should have a theory why that would be true.
  11. Once you're comfortable with 5 years or so at Tena Bar, then you bump into the likelihood that somehow dredging displacement may have caused the final resting place at Tena Bar. '74 is a year quoted for dredging, although it's unclear if that was the only year from '71 thru '80 in that location. Here's some anecdotal info about dredging on both sides of the river from a long term resident on the other side of the river, (across from Tena Bar) I was asking him about info in a court case where it incidentally mentions that the Army Corps of Engineers dumped about 175,000 cubic yards of sand on about 20 acres of land in the Sauvie Island area in August 1974, rendering it useless for farming. [edit] Reeder Beach is on the other (OR) side of the river. his reply: "xxx xxx was an xxx of mine, a very private person. I know nothing about any sale of her land. I do know that there was a lot of sand pumped on to her land, and she sold sand for several years, at a good price, to contractors. ... Her farm was called xxx Ranch, and is located about 1/2 mile south of Reeder Beach. Spoil from the dredging done by the Corp. of Engineers in 1974 , on the Oregon side in our area, was dumped on the xxx Ranch, and on the Washington side, was pumped on to Fazio Farms, on Lower River Road, north of Vancouver, where the D.B. Cooper money was found. The last dumping of dredging spoil on Reeder Beach was in the mid 1960s. All of the 1974 sand on this side, went to xxx Ranch and shortly after that, the environmentalists got into the picture and declared that the water, which ran off of the sand back into the river, was polluting the river, and the Corp of Engineers is no longer able to pump the spoil on to the riverbank. .... no longer able to restore the beach, even though the major flood of 1996 washed away over 150 feet of ... beach frontage." I also got some info from the houseboat-living guy on the current dredging every year that gets the sand onto the shore, at the Fazio Bros. Sand Company. (the big pile you see in Google Earth) Ckret had previously said the '74 dredging was with a bladed dredger. I'm wondering if it was a similar Auger suction dredge. "Fazio dredges with an Auger suction dredge (do a wikipedia search) every winter (it's illegal to dredge after April 1st, salmon habitat and all). They pump the dredge spoils up onto the hill, so every year the sand increases, then decreases as the sand is trucked out." wikipedia auger suction dredge: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dredging#Auger_suction [edit] wiki says the first wide use of auger suction dredges was in the '80s. So still unclear what the exact bladed dredger in '74 was.
  12. Hi georger excellent on the calls you have out for expertise. I always liked the "jump when you see city lights" theory. question: You make a reference to Scott slowing the plane down for Cooper. Sluggo and I have gone back and forth on that as myth vs fact. There are some quotes attributed to Bill R. that may be myth. Sluggo has pointed out increases in fuel consumption, noted in the transcripts, that could be attributed to increased flaps to slow the plane. Or not. Where did you get the information that Scott levelled and slowed the plane for Cooper? Or are you just saying at some point the plane was apparently in a state that favored Cooper, as opposed to an actual documented exchange between Cooper and Scoot or Bill R. that led to that state? Also: are you familar with the timeline Sluggo has assembled from all the info in the transcripts at http://n467us.com/NORJAK%20Time%20Table.htm Can you comment on that timeline and whether you agree/disagree about anything Sluggo has noted? You seem to have some specific thoughts on the 7:45 to 8:20 period. Can you expand on them? It's not clear there's a lot of evidence from the transcripts that one can infer stuff from..are we missing something? Any particular reason you're guessing 66 bundles? Sorry for drilling you..but welcome to the thread!
  13. Anecdotal info from a resident who lived on a houseboat recently in the channel to the east of Caterpillar Island. Since we're talking about money possibly rolling a short distance, and Caterpillar Island is a nearby body of land, I thought comments about historical water levels were useful. Also the comment about flooding to Lower River Road, since we're talking about possible other ways to get to Tena Bar. from that resident: "Back in 1996 all of Caterpillar Island was under water. Lower River road across from the island was under water and the docks floated off the pilings. In more recent years the water has covered vast portions of the island, I have boated over sections of beach that are 15 feet above the normal river levels. It is a very low island."
  14. theory for how the bundles got close to each other. maybe not applicable, because the photos seem to show the money location being on a slope. But we're not sure. Remember that ckret's latest interview of Brian, said the bundles were found in an area that "was recently covered by water". I was wondering how they would know that. I was thinking maybe it was flattish with some puddles or something that gave them such a clue. But if it was just a simple slope, Brian wouldn't have obviously known it was recently covered by water, unless they knew about the water levels of the Columbia over time? Imagine instead that it's a slight depression...like a shallow pool area in the sand...maybe spreading over a large area. You might pick a depression area as a good firepit area anyhow.. Imagine the area was flooded and 3 bundles get caught floating (or pushed by water) in that wide depression. As the water evaporates/absorbs into the sand, and the water level drops, the bundles float/get pushed towards the center of the remaining water pool. (wind might help this) When all the water is gone, the 3 bundles are next to each other, even though they initially weren't. Think of it like hair collecting at the bottom of a sink bowl near the drain, sort of. Sounds unlikely..just throwing it out there.
  15. more good thoughts georger. In terms of scenarios that might align with the bundle positioning, but no bag, here's another that doesn't require bag decomposition, that I don't think was mentioned explicitly before. Bag has some bundles, gets pushed onto Tena Bar. Deposits a couple of bundles. Then bag gets pushed away with the rest of the bundles. I like to remind myself that we're looking at a roughly 100? (don't know for sure) bundle experiment. Not a 3 bundle experiment. So it's not about explaining 3 bundles, it's about explaining the 100, where the 3 is one small part. There could have been a number of places with aligned bundles, and we just found one? Another way to put it: Drag a bag of bundles with an open top around the Columbia River until the bag is empty. Then go back and look at your debris field. Map it and count the # of bundles at each unique spot. Do you expect to see lots of individual bundles? or a random distribution of bundle counts? One could argue that seeing 100 bundles in one location is probably unlikely if natural dispersion. Seeing dispersion of groups of bundles, say 1-3 may be likely? Not finding the rest of the bundles, doesn't necessarily mean that the 3 bundle find is unlikely? Here's another question: If Tena Bar was a "likely" debris field for random garbage in the Columbia, shouldn't other garbage, like waste paper, aluminum, plastic, have been found during the FBI excavation. Be interesting to know what else the FBI found while they were digging that trench (which I think was almost 3' deep?)
  16. He was a prison correctional officer, right? (from the obit) Would his prints have gone in as part of a background check during hiring? I would think even though he's dead, the prints would be "gettable" ??? possibly even without agreement from the family or Cook? [edit] from obit: He also worked as a correctional officer and administrative director of a confinement facility at the Davis County Sheriff's Office, Farmington, Utah [edit] I'm not suggesting it's worth the trouble. Doesn't seem there's any evidence, really, right? [edit] in fact, following orange1's kind of thinking, why would Gossett have stayed in the military after the hijack. See this 1973 photo of him getting a medal. http://n467us.com/I%20Am%20D%20B%20Cooper_files/image021.jpg
  17. good stuff georger. Another question for you, that you might have good thoughts on. {estimated minimum lifetime at Tena Bar} We've heard stuff from I believe FBI, that indicated the crumbling state of the rubber bands also present at the find (not part of current evidence) was used to estimate a lifetime at Tena Bar. That's a whole nuther ball of wax. BUT: We also know there were a lot of Bill Fragments from looking at the Ingram auction bills. And Brian has described the bill/bundle find in various ways, but suggesting they maybe were in a cohesive mass of some sort...i.e. not just that the 3 bundles were individually cohesive, but they may have had some sort of cohesive relationship when found. I'm wondering if the combination of fragments and "meshing", would require a MINIMUM lifetime at Tena Bar, i.e. a certain amount of the decomposition had to happen there, otherwise it's unlikely all those fragments would be in a somewhat cohesive mass. I only posted the best Ingram Bills. There are many smaller fragments. And there are some he's not currently auctioning. And there's the FBI bills, and I suppose the lost Lawyer/Insurance bills, since they divied up the loot after the court case was settled (6 years). So we don't have pics of many of the bills. [Edit] Hmm. Ocean salt water wouldn't make sense? just looked at a map and Portland is too far from the ocean. Maybe salts from earth or sand? Tena Bar had dredge spoils. Could they have high salt content for some reason? from http://www.nwd-wc.usace.army.mil/TMT/basin.html Salt water intrusion into the Columbia River estuary reaches about 23 miles upstream from the mouth. The effects of tides upon the flow rate and level of the river are felt up to Bonneville Dam, river mile 146.1.
  18. georger: you seem to have good expertise in a variety of areas. I have attached cropped photos of the Ingram auction bills that are zoomable and higher resolution than anything we've seen from FBI (I think) I've been curious about purple staining. I know that iodine tests are used to detect high starch levels in counterfeit bills. The discolored Ingram bills seem to have purple staining. I was wondering if there's any database on what causes different types of staining to the flax/cotton US bills. Try zooming in on these. Some have the holes which I assumed were insect. You can zoom in a lot with these and maintain resolution. [edit] Best to download them and then view them with a picture viewer tool like windows picture viewer or whatever..rather than just clicking with your browser.
  19. I was researching C-124's cause they apparently were at McChord in the '50s, and since it was a big cargo plane that was also used for paratroops, I thought you loadmaster fanboys would be interested. landed on a really interesting site covering military jumping in the '50s http://home.hiwaay.net/~magro/paraindex.html The site has a lot of stuff, but I loved these two: Here's the caption for attached photo 1 "We had three waves of three planes each and 200 fully equipped men in each plane. After I had jumped and landed I looked up and saw over 1200 men still in the air. I'll never forget that as long as I live. If we had been doing a combat jump the shear number of troopers would have scared hell out of the enemy. " Here's the caption for attached photo 2 "The entry in my jump log reads; “ 1266 jumpers, no casualties “. What I remember most about that day was walking off two canopies before getting a clean piece of air to descend properly. The air was so thick with canopies the birds were forced to remain on the ground and walk." Man, hats off to those guys!
  20. Although I have no psych expertise, I was doing some quick reading on schizophrenia and psychotic delusions triggered by near death, thinking something else might have triggered the Duane "confession"...delusions of grandeur/association. But in reading Jo's description again, and thinking about what Duane might really wanted to have told Jo, He might have been trying to say "I'm John Coooollins" There's no way Jo would have expected John Collins since there was no evidence of it at the time. So she could have misheard. Jo might have somehow expected Dan Cooper since it appears Duane joked about being D.B. before, and he obviously read the Norjack book and maybe identified with Cooper, based on his own personal history of deception. I know Jo says she didn't recognize it at the time..but her brain may have registered it without rational thinking on her part. Edit: Or: Maybe the first time her brain registered "Dan Cooper" was when she read the Norjack book..i.e. a faulty memory, that got reinforced by the reading. The brain is a delicate thing. Jo may not know the answer, no matter how hard she tries to remember. It's interesting Jo mentions the transition to talking about the wallet with the John Collins info in the van. Seems to make sense to me. If I loved Jo, like Duane obviously did, I might want her to know about my past at that time, if I knew it wouldn't cause her future trouble. If I loved her, I wouldn't dump some heavy weight on her about an unsolved crime. With respect to the laments about buried money, Jo has mentioned quantities of cash arriving in mysterious (to her) ways, not related to Cooper mythology. I'm wondering if maybe Duane might have had a stash of money that he really did lose, but unrelated to the Cooper case. Remember, he was a thief. Maybe Jo can go into detail about any other unexplained amounts of money in the household.
  21. Hi Jo. I believe I have every photo you have ever posted. Old Thread. New Thread. I have about 10 jpgs related to Duane. There are no photos of Duane I have without glasses, except for the age 25 photo. Therefore I have to conclude he always needed them for everyday activities. If you can post a new photo without glasses, ideally in the '71 era, that would be great. It would also help in the sketch comparison. I don't understand how people are doing a Cooper sketch comparison to Duane while Duane is wearing glasses. Can't see eyes and eyebrows.
  22. Here's the problem I have with Jo. I like people. I try to be nice to people. I like to attack data, and encourage people to attack data. Hard enough so that if anyone feels attached to the data, they should break down in tears and fall apart. That kind of hard analysis would mean we've been intellectually honest and we won't miss anything. Jo has interconnected herself and her emotions with her data. So attacking her data is somehow attacking her. Until she can produce a photo of Duane without glasses in the '71 or later era, I have to assume she's lying about his need for glasses. There's no reason to believe her. I can't believe anyone would believe the statement she made about his sight. There's no reason at all to believe it. Tell me where I'm wrong? Make me cry. [edit] Note I am not being cruel here. I can understand Jo. I'm sure she's a great person. But she is not her data.
  23. It always pays to reexamine all our evidence biases under different lights to see if it creates any new thoughts. 1) Assuming Cooper didn't tie everything to himself (briefcase, the training reserve), then he must have thrown that stuff out since it wasn't on the plane on landing. So anything "found" on the ground could have been just thrown out, and might not imply something else. 2) We've debated before whether Cooper might have had other shoes for jumping. If so, the "loafers" may have been tossed. I'm just throwing out ideas why a found shoe may not require a broken ankle. But it could. 3) We've got new info from Ckret that Cooper got the rig on, and tied up the money bag, while the plane was on the ground. I'm assuming that means Tina DID NOT see Cooper with the rest of the crap (training reserve/briefcase) tied to himself. If he's getting ready on the ground, wouldn't he get EVERYTHING tied up..because of the difficulties in tying while the plane is climbing and he's about to jump and dealing with the stairs. .... BUT: if a shoe was found, why wouldn't any of this other "stuff" have been found? I mean it would have been bigger stuff. And it's hard to believe Cooper tied it all to himself? So he's not going to be able to bury it on landing.. So I'm thinking stuff was tossed. If a shoe was found, I'm having a hard time understanding why other stuff wasn't found. [Edit] Maybe he tossed some stuff out very early..so it landed miles away from stuff like shoe..deep in woods and unfindable?
  24. from the shoe find story: The 3rd Armored Cavalry mentioned below in news articles could very likely be the 3rd Cav mentioned by the supposed shoe finder.. 3rd Cav is an armor division?, they were stationed at Fort Lewis. I'm trying to check out the other details in the posted "shoe found" story. Deployment details for the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment. Apparently they were at Fort Lewis in '71. http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/agency/army/3acr.htm "The Regiment remained in Germany until July 1968, when the Regiment redeployed to Fort Lewis, Washington...In 1972, the Regiment relocated to Fort Bliss, Texas" snippets from Google News Daily Times-News, The (Newspaper) - March 23, 1972, Burlington, North... ... Hijacker Goes Ou ..Helicopters of the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment from Ft. Lewis, Wash. prepare to land after making a terrain ..." Apparently the search was for 6 weeks? Used 9 helicoptors and led by J. Earle Mimes. Sounds like it was maybe Feb/Mar '72. Maybe the "shoe find" author misremembered winter '71 vs early '72? Press-Telegram (Newspaper) - March 24, 1972, Long Beach, California "... and nine helicopters from Ft. Lewis and FBI agents led by J. Earle Mimes, director of the bureau's Seattle office... A search of the area was abandoned after several weeks. ..."
  25. Hi Jo, So if Duane didn't wear his glasses much for distance, you must have some photos of him without glasses post '71. Could you post one or two? It sounds like you have quite a collection, so just thinking probability, it should be easy to find one or two? thanks
