Yeah because they are so f***** loud you could become deaf ;-) You got something wrong here. Mount it on your ankle/leg to measure the most precise freefall data as speed etc. But to get distinct warnings and to have them work as "audible" you should wear them in or on your helmet so you can hear the signals. But indeed, for many freeflyers here audibles are mandatory, e.g. since a few days you have to get the "blue tag" in Ampuriabrava, which is in fact a kind of licence that allows you to do freefly jumps with more than 2 persons. Babylon Freefly made a pdf "A Freefly Guide" here to download. The licence is called CBT-licence (Compulsory Basic Training) and the CPCB has introduced it March 1st. Who doesn't get it is only allowed to jump with an instructor (if you want a freefly with more than 2): 1. Safety Briefing -> get Freefly Guide 2. Test with Babylon Freefly School 3. no more without dytter and without Cypres (mandatory) 4. Babylon Freefly Visa --> registration and number in CPCB-office 5. "Blue Tag" I have 2 dytters mounted in my helmet and I'm glad about. Blues Marcus -- Be careful of your thoughts, they may become words at any moment.

Where are the alternatives to Pro packing???
MarcusV replied to PhillyKev's topic in Gear and Rigging
Hi Kevin, Brent Finley has a new domain: brentfinley.net - please erase the .com and insert .net instead of it. His Z-Po-packing page with pictures is also online again, you can visit it here: http://www.brentfinley.net/packing2.htm Hope I could help you blues Marcus -- For the rich, there's therapy. For the rest of us, there's skydiving. -
Please note: There is a safety bulletin from Icarus Canopies from last November. It is exclusively written for Europe. In it Icarus states that no Crossfire which is made in Spain is affected in any case. Only Crossfires from the NZ and US plants were affected. Really? Actually I don't know of any affected Crossfire of Spanish origin. This is why the whole issue didn't cause such a trouble here. (Please help me out if I am wrong.) Blues Marcus -- Perfect speed, my son, is being there. - Jonathan Livingston Seagull

Yes :-) Why I love skydiving An email to a mother concerning her concern about her son's skydiving by Paul Robins - mjrobins@ix.netcom.com "...No, you don't really understand *why* I love skydiving. There is so much to it. I will TRY and explain a little for you. It isn't just about being able to use natural forces to fly three dimensionally as humans can, even though that is the biggest part of it. It is about getting away from the world of television fed, brainless zombies and the media lemmings that have no concept of what living is who feed them. It is about finding truth in a world of misunderstanding and fear. It is about being a child forever. It is about discovering awesome breathtaking experiences and images of flight. It is about building lifetime friendships and relationships with others who have escaped and broken the chain to the same world. It is about witnessing a person experience something so awesome for the first time and looking into their eyes and communicating "I know" without so many useless words. It is about relying on instinct and being humbled. It is about understanding why we need to survive and live into tomorrow, so we can do it all again. It is about being a part of things that you know so many billions of souls will never get to see or do or feel or experience, and how they could do it so easily if they only knew. It is about laughing at that simple fact. It is about laughing because you KNOW. It is about laughing because many are too stressed over nothing, to be able to." - Paul found here. blues Marcus -- Perfect speed, my son, is being there. - Jonathan Livingston Seagull

It's the original spaceball - called "Skyball". Peter Unruh from Eloy has patented it in the early 90's (?) as "a reference point device and method for aiding in the training of free falling parachutists or skydivers." Where are the alternatives to Pro packing???
MarcusV replied to PhillyKev's topic in Gear and Rigging
Psycho-pack slows openings down nicely. Wolmari-pack actually seems to accelerate the openings in comparison to a normal pro-pack. Therefore I like it very much on my Crossfire ;-) Blues Marcus -- Perfect speed, my son, is being there. - Jonathan Livingston Seagull -
Where are the alternatives to Pro packing???
MarcusV replied to PhillyKev's topic in Gear and Rigging
Kevin, yes, the site is in English too and with many pictures so you can't do it wrong. Wolmari-pack is a bit tricky in the beginning but you get quickly used to it. But perhaps you are better with psycho-packing your canopy because there are more people being familiar with it, they can easily show you how to do it. If you tried your first Wolmari-packs and still have further questions, feel free to send me a PM. Blues Marcus -- Perfect speed, my son, is being there. - Jonathan Livingston Seagull -

MarcusV replied to PhillyKev's topic in Gear and Rigging
Hi Kevin, The Wolmari-pack website is down at the moment, just try later. Wolmari is the nickname of Timo Kurki, a Senior Rigger. Send him an e-mail timokurki@hotmail.com and say "sinisiä taivaita" to him ;-) ( = blue skies or so...) He sure can send you pics and further info. The wolmari-pack makes sense with brandnew slippery zero-p fabric. It does NOT slow your opening but minimizes the risk of line-over mals. Brent Finley's packing site is no longer available. But perhaps you are interested in George Galloway's psycho-pack. Hope I could help you out at least a bit... Blues Marcus -- Perfect speed, my son, is being there. - Jonathan Livingston Seagull -
Another question for swoopmasters
MarcusV replied to LawnDart21's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Hi Tom, arms stretched out looks really cool ;-)) And it's a typical flare movement of PD jumpers (Velocity, Stiletto, Vengeance, Sabre) because the flare is a bit higher as say with an Icarus canopy where it lies way deeper in the toggle range. Have a look on it the next time. Bringing the arms up again - I don't know if I really understand you correct, but for me it sounds as if you mean a "pumping flare". Pumping the canopy while flaring actually does not have any effect on your flare and is kinda an old method of flaring, habitual of jumpers who learned swooping on the first ZP-canopies. Hope I could help you out a bit ;-) blues Marcus -- Perfect speed, my son, is being there. - Jonathan Livingston Seagull -
Need advice/opinions on swooping problem.
MarcusV replied to LawnDart21's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Must been heavy thermals though with a wingload of 1.85 ;-)) No, serious: Your last turn before landing - could it be a right turn, perhaps even corrected with a toggle? If yes, for me it sounds as the turn wasn't smooth and your Vengeance was kinda oversteering to the right while landing. This is nothing to worry about - just think of it the next landing to make smooth and soft moves, especially when you're toggle turning. Can anyone please explain me the difference between an instructor and a jumpmaster? And the difference between AFF and IAD? And what means back, chest, seat, lap (...) rigger? Excuse me if these questions sound stupid - but here in Germany it seems to be different: S/L jumpmaster, AFF jumpmaster, Tandemmaster, AFF-/Tandem-Examiner etc. ... but nothing in between... Thank you blues Marcus -- Perfect speed, my son, is being there. - Jonathan Livingston Seagull

Hi Sangiro, perhaps ask Craig Poxon or go here: http://www.recskydiving.org/ blues Marcus -- Perfect speed, my son, is being there. - Jonathan Livingston Seagull

If you're short and skinny there is only one custom made rig that will REALLY fit you always - the Vortex II. When I remember right, it's originally built by a small and skinny woman who didn't want to wear too big and uncomfy rigs anymore... Just my 2 cents ;-)) blues Marcus -- Perfect speed, my son, is being there. - Jonathan Livingston Seagull

The Icarus website hasn't been updated since last September (except for the bulletin). Just write an e-mail to simon@icaruscanopies.com (US) or sascha@icaruscanopies.com (Europe). They sure can help you out. In my posting there is all info I got from them. Blues Marcus -- Perfect speed, my son, is being there. - Jonathan Livingston Seagull
-
The Icarus Crossfire will be followed by the Crossfire B or Crossfire 2. There is no big difference to the Crossfire but a stronger elliptical profile which will increase the reaction on toggle input. Other than being more "elliptical" in shape there will be no difference to the "normal" Crossfire. In Germany the Crossfire 2 model gets licensed/registrated during the following 1-2 weeks. This information is from a press release in skydivenews.info and from an Icarus-rep e-mail. Blues Marcus -- Perfect speed, my son, is being there. - Jonathan Livingston Seagull

Dan Preston didn't answer anything to the last posts, so I e-mailed him the following today. Dan, I posted this on dropzone.com and would like to get an answer. All the other people who are involved into this theme are awaiting your news, too. (As somebody who has some credibility in the public and as someone people listen to) You are responsible for what you said. Please answer us - I guess you don't wanna be called a cheap liar?! Best regards Marcus In reply to: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5 crossfires were tested by nasa in a windtunnel. the report should be published next month. i would expect either a recall of all crossfires (to be discarded and not for line trim modification), or icarus to close. sincerely, dan -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dan, do you have some results meanwhile about this? Or even the report? At least some information? And why do european cobalt dealers have so suddenly stopped selling Cobalts? And why is the Crossfire so damn successful in Europe? Man, its price increased more than 25% up to 2.500 euros!! Doesn't seem as if Icarus is about to be closed... Sincerely Marcus -- Perfect speed, my son, is being there. - Jonathan Livingston Seagull

Goat, you are so right, but you got me totally wrong. What I meant is - imagine, the one with 700 jumps would have had the money to do 2000 jumps also in the same time. Now imagine with her/his talent bringing it into much more jumps - what jumper would s/he be now? Hope I'm not misunderstood now ;-) Blues Marcus -- Perfect speed, my son, is being there. - Jonathan Livingston Seagull

Yes, Chuck really seems to be very fair, serious and trustworthy. Dan Preston does not. He seems more like a cheap seller -who uses to lie to get products sold. His methods are amusing, not more. Blues Marcus -- Perfect speed, my son, is being there. - Jonathan Livingston Seagull

No. The real question is gives anybody shit that the word "freefly" is a trademark of some neurotic German guy? Blues Marcus ;-)) -- Perfect speed, my son, is being there. - Jonathan Livingston Seagull
