I didn't like it when I demo'd it for a day. Side walls flap down when trying to put the d-bag in, reserve flap came open a couple times, and leg straps loosened up on me after opening (*$*# scary s$it). Your experience is not indicative of the Icon container system. I have an Icon and an Infinity both made for me and I have never had the reserve flap open or the leg straps come loose on either. In fact I can't see how the reserve flap could come open unless you bumped up against something or didn't have is properly closed to begin with. The flap systems for the main and the reserve are very positive and are excellent for free flying. Packing the main is a little different than other rigs but there's nothing that should be flapping down. Maybe you were demoing an older Aerodyne rig?

Skydiving: Sport or hobby?
pilot-one replied to npgraphicdesign's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Calling skydiving a hobby sounds stupid. A hobby is something like building model airplanes or working on your classic car. Skydiving is a sport. And while on the subject "fun-jumper" sounds just as stupid. Sport-jumper is much more appropriate. Although I'm sure most skydivers are having fun the word itself sounds like something associated with a circus or carnival. I vote skydiving is a sport not a hobby. -
What kind of mileage are you talking? Hauling 30 plus pounds on any bike is a huge factor. Forget about a road bike. A mountain bike maybe but the touring bike you are looking at is probably the best. What do you consider expensive? A mid level road bike will run about $3500. Most people consider that expensive but it really isn't, you get what you pay for. Forget about entry level unless you're just testing the waters. If that's the case then just ride the bike and forget about hauling the gear. Once you decide that's what you really want to do you'll have more knowledge. It's kind of like an AFF student buying a rig. Put some time in first then decide on your own.

I'm not too sure about the skilled part but I know Travis fits the crazy part. Go for it Chunks! I hope I'm there to see the maiden flight.

Although not just a box the 2K Composites FF3 or even the older FF2 (with minor modifications) are great helmets for what you are asking.

I have a Tony Space Suit that I absolutely love. I also have a Liquid Sky suit that is perfect too. One is my slow FF suit (baggy) and the other is much faster. I think both companies have excellent customer service however I don't think Tony is as "hands on" as Julio is at Liquid Sky. I know that Julio has been know to sit at the sewing machine himself when the seamstress couldn't make it in for the day. FWIW I prefer the fit and comfort of the Liquid Sky but jump the Tony more often.....go figure.

Hey thanks! I got one coming now. I hope it's better than the Royal with my CX100. -

Where can you buy the Century for 100 bux? -
An airplane can stall at any speed depending on several variables. It amazes me how many pilots are surprised their aircraft stalls at a substantially higher speed than the published speed in the POH. Ultimately it is the pilot's responsibilty to keep the aircraft flying. With my 5000 hours of flying heavy loads in the bush of Alaska and the limited information provided, I would call this pilot error having nothing to do with the design of the airplane itself. Obviously this pilot realized his mistake and made the appropriate adjustment on the next jump run. Good for him.

Christian Skydivers Association
pilot-one replied to Ketia0's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'd say a "patch" would be like a "fish" on someone's car. It tells me to run like hell. There's nothing wrong with being Christian, I am one myself....kind of. It's the people that push it too far and push it on other people with their annoying bible beating that will make your group difficult to accept. The anvil brothers are big boys...the gravity rats are freeflyers. That's a lot different than forming a group based on religious beliefs. On the same note I was thinking of starting a Hare Krishna skydiver group. We would all shave our heads and wear robes that transform into wing suits. No patch needed. Anybody in? -
Sony will fix your 101 for a flat rate. I had two of them "refurbished". It was about $300 each a year or so ago.

and we need his oil far more than we need his bond purchasing power. The irony is we DON'T need his oil. We have our own. The problem is we have a bunch of liberal jackasses running our country that have an agenda that drilling for our own oil doesn't fit.

If it's 4mm OD and 1mm wall thickness that would make it 2mm ID. Why not just stick with regular old rubber bands? They do what they were designed to do much better than tube stoes....they break much more reliably.

Cheap Turbine Jumps for Central Texas
pilot-one replied to voodew1's topic in Events & Places to Jump
It's confirmed. I talked to Paul today (DZO). Skydive San Marcos will have $17 jumps every Monday through Thursday. We will be jumping EVERY day of the week. Weather permitting of course. -
WHY open faced and not closed ? WHY Not a digital Alti ? K.I.S.S. For a student there is no need for a digital altimeter. For instance what happens when the battery goes dead in freefall? There is no need for a full face helmet. The view to the handles will most likely be obstructed.

I was asked to invest in a tunnel project a few years ago. Houston would never be an option. Population has little to do with locating a tunnel. What drives a business like the tunnel business is tourism. Only two places in Texas make any sense when this is considered. San Antonio or Austin. Since the two cities are very close to each other it makes sense to put the tunnel in the more centralized city. This leaves Austin as the only sensible place to be. Not too far from the populations of the Dallas Metroplex and Houston but more importantly close the the huge tourism draw of San Antonio and the tourism of Austin itself. This makes sense since after all the tunnel is really nothing more than an amusement ride for most people. The people doing the tunnel in Texas are the same people that operate several other entertainment parks in the area. Whether it really happens or not who knows but if it does happen it will be in Austin/Cedar Park.

A Thief Among Us! Stolen Gear Skydive Dallas part 2
pilot-one replied to BASE1036's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Although I trust the victim's and their word, I would much rather let the involved parties state names. Life goes on outside of this fun little website and with no charges having been brought up, publicly stating a name would put me in a position of increased civil liability. If you jump in South/Central Texas it won't be hard to find out the name. Is this the short squatty dude that wears a skull face mask, even when it's hot outside, when he jumps? -
Here's an easy way to spend $10,000. My second favorite toy. My first favorite is 5'6" and 110 lbs. Sorry....no pictures for you perverts.

If you're going to freefly I'd skip the grips. If you're going to do RW get a RW suit. I guarantee later on you'd regret trying to do both with one suit. IMHO of course.

Talk to Julio at LiquidSky. The kurupee isn't bad but you'll like a better quality jumpsuit much better. He will also fine tune your fall rate using different materials than Kurupee would. He put me in a jam up freefly suit that I love. www.liquidskysports.com

Have you jumped with PD Navigator? FYI thats not a square canopy. So what? Have you heard a canopy called Space? It has the very same airfoil that my Cobalt 135. Space is a student canopy too... I'm just saying that with 40 jumps a Firebolt is a bit complex so to speak. I've seen problems in the past with the brake lines requiring special attention. I've jumped a Firebolt and it certainly is of an elliptical planform. Generally it is smart to have at least a couple hundred jumps on a less aggressive planform before "downsizing" to an elliptical due to the high performance nature. I am sorry but I can't agree with you that ANY 135 sq ft canopy would be considered a student canopy. I've never jumped a Cobolt but I know two of the Atair canopy pilots personally and both of their high performance swooping canopies are Cobalts. I hardly believe that would be considered a student canopy.

2 brake lines and elliptical.....40 jumps.......I say find something else.

I got a LiquidSky jumpsuit not too long ago too. I love the design and workmanship. If I had one thing to critique though it would be that I think their jumpsuits are not very balanced. Including the OP's jumpsuit the legs have quite a bit more material than the arms. Of course if you are a bad ass freeflyer that has total control with your legs this isn't a problem. For somebody with less experience this can make learning a bit difficult for headup flying. Nevertheless I love my LiquidSky.
