Lessee here, going from 120 to 180 days is an increase of 33%, packjobs could go from say $45 to $60 to parallel that. So if the FAA okays a 1200 day cycle then a packjob should cost $450. I'm just sayin. If you think I don't appreciate my rigger(s) you'd be way wrong. I work by the hour, if there's half as much work available nobody pays me double. I'd sell that canopy PDQ. You'll get a rash every time you pack it. Forever. I'm sure there are people out there that aren't allergic to poisoned Cobalts. Sometimes you eat the bear..............

Zzzzzz .... max loading on PDF canopy and reserve?

This really has been a very good troll but I'm bored with it now. Good luck to you if you're serious. Try not to hurt someone else. Sometimes you eat the bear.............. -
Zzzzzz .... max loading on PDF canopy and reserve?
Martini replied to crashtested's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I still have a 5 month wait for the rig to get here, my jump numbers, english weather being what it is should be up to the 400 mark by that point... maybe a few more if i can squeeze in the trip to deland again.... Quote Well then that makes all the difference. By that time you might even find that you need an even smaller reserve. Seriously, you have time to change your mind, your rig isn't started yet. Zzzzzz .... max loading on PDF canopy and reserve?
Martini replied to crashtested's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
As far as I'm concerned you are welcome to load your reserve as heavily as you want. What I'm critical of is your clear lack of understanding of the possible consequences of your decision. BTW the chances of having a reserve ride may increase with a more highly loaded main. There are manufacturers that will build a rig with a reserve sized larger than the main, they will also get it to you in less than a year. Checking that out should have been part of your gear buying process. Will your reseve work in a high-speed deployment? Maybe, you know there are no guarantees. Will you land it safely? I wouldn't bet on it. I don't make bets with obviously poor odds. Sometimes you eat the bear.............. -

You're fortunate that people like JP and Phree are willing to be not only informative but somewhat tactful. My approach tends to be a little more abrasive. It helps to be thick-skinned (not to be confused with just plain thick) if you're going to post questions like that. Highly loaded reserves are more likely to come apart especially during high-speed deployments, Those deployments could be accidental (as in your handle gets pulled by your freefly buddy) or intentional (like when you break off head down at 1500 feet). In any case when you find yourself under that small reserve I hope it works out OK for you, planning for that event on every jump will serve you well. Sometimes you eat the bear.............. -

What an excellent post Sam, the responses should be fascinating. -
You're welcome to borrow my morals. Both of them. Hell you can keep them, I never use them anyway. Good on ya for living the dream. Sometimes you eat the bear..............

Yeah, definitely easier to pop out from inside. My wife just cracked up when she saw that. Sometimes you eat the bear..............

Not a fair analogy, the kayak doesn't "feel" the current but it is affected by the relative wind as the current moves it through the air. Sometimes you eat the bear..............

I can't imagine anyone not wanting the device for both the main and reserve pc/freebag. How much people are willing to pay is the real question. Even with five choppers I wouldn't pay more than about a hundred bucks. Seems like the real market might be tandems (expensive gear, higher chop numbers, higher cutaway altitude, loss of income etc.) but I'm just guessin'. Sometimes you eat the bear..............

Scott, I got 3 minutes on my S-3 a few years ago, I was flying hard not floating. I might have thrown a little low though Haven't even bothered to time my V-2 flights, I'm sure they're not even close. 3 1/2 minutes is impressive! Sometimes you eat the bear..............

Which one do you need to have to skydive? (hint: it's not the jumpsuit) Sometimes you eat the bear..............

The gear could have been purchased by someone who legitimately buys merchandise from unpaid storage sales. They get a legal title to everything in the sale. I know a guy who does that a lot, recently sold several rigs. (they were old stuff, I was surprised at the money people paid for junk rigs) Sometimes you eat the bear..............

I get less line twists and more opening consistency when packing grommet up on my wingsuit rig. My other rig doesn't open better one way or the other but packs nicer grommet against reserve. Are you jumping a Stiletto at 1.6 with your wingsuit? Still have the S-3? Sometimes you eat the bear..............

Spectre landing flare help based on video
Martini replied to repcool's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
If you try to land a 7-cell canopy like the Spectre as if it were a 9-cell the results will often look like your vid. Try starting the flare slightly earlier, be smooth, seek help from canopy pilots with current 7-cell experience. I have to really concentrate when landing a 7-cell. According to a message I just recieved Northwest Skydivers will resume operations at Barker Airfield near Mount Vernon, WA on Saturday May 12. I assume that Jim will be flying his most excellent Porter but I haven't verified that. A very beautiful and low key place to skydive, always good vibes. Sometimes you eat the bear..............

I'm guessing that Dan's fabric was left in full sun exposure in a place like Eloy. I wonder about fabric left in the light but not in direct sunlight in a place more like Seattle. Sometimes you eat the bear..............
