So you have bought a wingsuit and you determine that it is not in perfect trim for optimum performance. Is it better to (a) add weight to correct the trim? or (b) adjust to a sub-optimal body position to correct the trim? or (c) just fly it out of trim? To change trim (d) change body for optimal trim. We have a lot of control of the angle of incidence on our wings that rigid craft don't have. We can do that unless we run out of pitch authority and I don't believe any of the wingsuits have this problem. In the case of the Ballast in the Sailplane when flown solo, I'm pretty sure it to keep it from being loaded well beyond its aft most center of balance were it does not have enough pitch authority to recover and stall/spins/crashes.

An aircraft designer has a degree of freedom that we don't. We can't control the weight distribution in our bodies. BTW, when flying certain gliders (such as the Schweizer 2-33) solo, you HAVE to add weights to keep it in trim. I've got more than a few hours in the Schweizer 2-33 and am aware of the added weight when solo. I realize there are exceptions however rare. But you know if the man could have rigged it without the weight he would have. Do you know any designer that just sets out to add weight before an exhaustive trial using other means for balance? I actually feel out of balance with too many cameras on my helmet. Flying is best with a clean noggin.

The pictures should speak for themselves, I'm guessing the blades make up the core with, what looks like, an S-6/ S-3 on each wing of the formation?

I do it because I'm lazy I have no problem admitting that. But couldn't it also improve the airflow because your body is more straight while still maintaining an increased angle of attack as compared to trim without the weights? I'd like to think it's not just because I'm lazy No aircraft designer adds weight to their design, which adds nothing for performance, before trying to better balance the existing weight in the design to keep it light weight and balanced. Keeping the weight ( and drag ) down is free performance. Move your cameras down to your ankles if your too front heavy.

Go into your Itunes preferences and set your copying bit rate under "custom" to the max. The default is about half this. Your files will be twice as big but they will retain more fidelity. This has nothing to do with your problem but it will keep you from being unhappy with the sound quality which could be another problem.

Not that you are on crutches but I will do the same for you Scott. I will keep the northern rime ice off your wing's leading edges until your sun comes out. I'll include free return shipping I'm such a giver. I feel the need to compare one of those to the Acro for purely selfish reasons I will admit. -

I'm sorry to hear about your booboo dude. If there is anything I can do to help, like keep the air laminar and flowing over your new wings until you are up and able, just ship them to me. -

Jump numbers before first wingsuit flight
VectorBoy replied to SkyDivinRyan's topic in Wing Suit Flying
I'm not against the hard numbers they've been around as long as the classic, when the gTi was top performing suit and the first skyflyer was just coming out. 200 jumps with an instructor ( what was an instructor was a little vague at the time ) or 500 and go for it solo. I've known rostered BMIs that claim they will not take anybody up with less than 500 jumps. of course then they are not needed at this point as referenced in the wingsuit manual. And I'm also pretty sure that some of our more prolific and vocal BMIs have conducted a first flights with a special numbers waiver based on personal assessment of the student with less than 200. -
Jump numbers before first wingsuit flight

Come to think of it, I think I knew this but forgot. Maybe it's because typically the wingsuit community permeates a police-like image when it comes to minimum requirements. Actually the wingsuit community is pretty loose when it comes to wingsuits. There is and has always been plenty of solo exploration going on. This countries ( USA) governing body only has recommendations when it come to wingsuits. Your country and your DZ may have other rules, guidelines etc, as part of that governing body. The "police -like" image you are referring to is propagated by a faction of the overall wingsuit community which is definitely not the voice of the entire community. Sometimes that faction comes off sounding like the "mattress label assault squad" but there is no manufacturer enforcement authority what so ever. Instructors from this faction have been the first to violate the hard numbers rule. -

And now that he is back vented those that meet up with Sean in Eloy should insist on having him fly inverted lead under a double chevron formation as that is what the locals were dirt diving as I left,...... my loss. Merry Christmass flockers and Happy new years in Eloy.

Here are a couple more grabs. In the first one it looks like he is trying to match the sharks snarl. I think he likes it.
