I've heard this discussed a few times before...(1000 jumps/beer rules exemption). When I had 'bout a hundred jumps or so, some guy (and his wife... from Wisconsin, of all places!) claimed the 1000 jump exemption. I questioned it , and "she" explained the details of the "1000 jump exemption". I was thinking, "Bullshit" when some experienced jumper walked up behind me and explained, "With 1000+ jumps you'd better know your way to the store by now, and you also know you'd better be quick, 1000 jump exemption, my ass!" __________________________________________________ The "last" beer will be out at Spaceland w/e 14/15/16June. __________________________________________________ Nacmac, be glad that you can/should claim, "The "next" of many more to come! I spent a little time checking and found actual rules pertaining to this... first from the Poynter Parachute Manual, Vol. 2, page 734... "all jumpers acheiving a milestone/first accomplishment before, during and/or after a skydiving event, shall be required to purchase a case (24 individual) beers to celebrate the occasion. Participation in the consumption is not required by the purchaser." Referring to the USPA S.I.M., Section 4, "Currency, Retraining and beer purchase Requirements.... Any U.S.P.A. member, in good standing, is reccommended upon completion of an initial event, situation or otherwise, to purchase, for dropzone comsumption, one carton (24 or more) malt, barley, hop combination beverage for communal consumption." After searching Diverdriver's site we found the FAA reg's on the subject.... FAA part 105, section 22.69.b1, ...."The Administrator has determined that any or all occurences which may be deemed "an initial episode" shall be considered as a "primary event" which shall warrant, (in the opinion of the administrator), justification for consuption of and purchase of, no less than 24 containers of, no less than 12 ounces each, of any substance containing alcoholic content. The Administrator has further determined that, the purchase and consumption of, (the afore mentioned substance) shall be completed no later than seven calander days after the event. Failure to comply constitutes implicit neglect and wanton disregard for the safety of all parties concerned." Now, I wouldn't want to break any rules... Congrats on #1000! Many more to come.... (now quit wining and but your beer!) Cheers! Chris

I just got packing a Clipper 195 (F-111, 9 cell) after cutting off the ribs and top skin. Any predictions on: 1. How will it open? ___________________________________________ 2 choices... my bets on an explosive lower surface inflation. Other option is won't open (inflate), because after lower surface inflation then requires pressure to hold the nose in inflation/non inflation range..... it'll open hard (Very!) then collapse. __________________________________________________ 2. How will it fly? __________________________________________________ it will produce drag.... but no lift... Round type flight. __________________________________________________ 3. How will it turn? __________________________________________________ Won't have a chance to find out... __________________________________________________ 4. How will it land? _________________________________________________ Here's you're best chance. you may get enuf drag to get a survivable landing, but the oscillation will ultimately determine that. From previous experience, it'll be a fun jump. Be sure to cutaway high.... Cool! Chris

Wow! Your profile shows you are in Maryland, but I'm sure we're talking about the same dogs... Here's what I do with "Blue and Red" (named after their collars)... I walk outside and up to the fence. Immediately they approach and sit (far better behaved for me!) Then I give the weekly offering of raw (yet fresh) ground beef. They lap it up in a few seconds and being well fed, quickly settle down and soon sleep. Now I know many of you are thinkin', " you're spending all that money to feed your neighbors noisy dogs!" But it gets better. These labs don't seem to "process" raw hamburger very well... As soon as they (and their owners wake)... these dogs seem to display intestinal distress. Seems they suffer some sort of soft stool syndrome (SSS) along with a major gas thing. I don't know why, but the neighbors (the dogs' parents/owners), seem to be very aware of their situation. Guess its just my way of "shitting on the neighbors!" hehehehehehe Chris

Hook, I jump smaller canopies and have students jump larger Falcon 300, 265, 235, etc. canopies... I usually open just after seeing complete inflation of the student canopy (usually high... 3000-4500'... pull the transmitter outa my jumpsuit and talk for a minute, spiral down and complete the conversation... I agree that canopy size is not important when instructing AFF. Jump what you like and watch your student... I personally like the JM's to CARRY the transmitter. Every time we hand it to someone on the ground, he can't see where the student is landing... (bad spot or bad student, take your choice.) Chris

Fluckin Flockin in Tennessee This weekend...
GroundZero replied to GroundZero's topic in Wing Suit Flying
Craig, Thanks for that info! I've only jumped a Pro-Track on a few Bird-Man jumps, most from higher altitudes... I thought there was a problem with each one I jumped... from 20+k i was getting 57 seconds or 80 seconds... or some way off number... Makes perfect sense now... add 120 seconds and we now have a correct freefall time (flite time). Has anyone else discovered this and does the "SLO" setting make any difference? I've recently taken delivery on a pro-track/logtrack for my use (er, uh, well... for work, ya know), but I'll test drive it and report back. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Craig, I'll send data, but the only thing I have is from my pocket while I was flying (a Cessna). It did record the flights... Shit, I may have to read the Manual... Chris -

Hello all! My DZ is fast becoming a Bird-Man dz and we have many newbies that want/need to experience the thrill of flight. I have been collecting used suits, in many different sizes to help "educate" our local jumpers. If you have a suit that is not being used constantly and you wish to share it with other jumpers, please contact me. I want to share the joy of flight with my growing number of body pilots. I need many sizes. We must share "flight" with everyone. I'll make a very sincere offer for any and all used suits. Thanks, Chris chris@precision.net

with respect to Bird-Man suits... get a custom fit. (who cares about colors) but more so than an rw suit, good fit means great flight! This is too much fun, don't detract from it by getting someone else's suit that doesn't fit well. If you buy a used suit that you're not happy with e-mail me and I'll make an offer... the flock is growing at my dz and i "need to clothe the children". Sincerely, Chris chris@precision.net

Ed, I jump with one of those leather conehead hats... (Fraphat)... I like the student to understand my jestures and expressions. I think it helps with the aerial, non-verbal communication. But I gotta say, many times I wish it was a Bell with a D.O.T. and SNELL rating. But because I don't have a hard hat, , (and some of my rigs don't have a CYPRES), I'm a bit more careful. Chris p.s. Think of the student as a card in your bicycle spokes... it helps to keep your cranial mass outa the way.... (while the frap-hat offers little protection, but does a nice job of keeping your hair in place.)

Yes ... most (some) of us do a 4-line check on every packjob... many don't realize they are doing it. Packing today usually is PRO or some variation, (PSYCHO, or Wolmari, etc.)... but none the less, we are performing a 4-line check. Take note that with squares, usually we are looking at lines that run clear to the outside of the individual risers vs. the insides with a round canopy. Have someone show you at the dz... it's just as simple and just as important! Chris
-
Yea, it's always a fun boogie... we'll be there... come on Bird-Men, we'll be fluckin Flockin' in Tennessee! And I have Precision Ground Zero demos, Synergy, Nitron and Xaos... Sunpath will be there also! Chris
