Skydive Coastal Carolinas, North Carolina Our most popular is Bud Light, but any cold beverage usually does the trick!

This is no kidding..... I was home on leave from a deployment in Africa (over 4 months) and my brothers and I ripped one on. I walked all of the way down stairs, into the kitchen, opened the fridge, and began to marinate the veggies and leftovers in the bottom drawers. I must have completely passed out in the kitchen, because my father woke me up in the morning with my trousers around my ankles in a giant puddle of piss. The fridge was still open and the bottom drawers were almost full of the stuff. I think that the final count on the beers was 4 cases and half of a small keg. (Evident from the mess we left for Mom to clean up throughout the house.) Needless to say, I spent the rest of the hangover cleaning the fridge, cleaning carpets, and smashing beer cans!

Okay, all of you high speed vid guys help me out with this.... I'm thinking of setting up another helmet system. I'm seriously considering a Hawkeye Flattop. Limiting factors include: 1. I don't shoot stills. 2. Money. I know that the Bonehead Flattop Pro is probably the best, ($650), but I'm trying to stay within a budget. Anyone using a Hawkeye system and how do you like the fit and weight? I've also considered building my own and tailoring it to my specific needs. Anyone ever built a camera helmet from scratch using fiberglass? I've been doing some shopping and I think that I can do it for well under $100. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Right now I'm jumping a protec modified with mounts. I can't keep the foam inserts in one place and the darn thing is very uncomfortable. If anybody knows where I can get some more info on that would be helpful, please let me know.

5:7:1 5- times back and forth from home to the dz for a retirement party. (2 hr drive) 7- jumps 6 on Saturday, did one vid for tandem and fun jumps the rest. 1 on Sunday morning, the clouds and wind starting picking up. 1 - Case of beer owed. I spent the week designing and building a 18ft tube for the weekend festivities. Had a guy jump it on Friday afternoon and had it video'd so I could check it out. It worked great!!! The guys loved it. Now I have to build some more of them for the other guys. (What did I just get myself into?)

1. The best way to ensure that there is no trouble is to get them to sign a release form that you come up with. Especially if there is going to be any nudie shots. Guys I know that have put together boogie videos do this after editing. A couple of years back, vid guy got sued for a nudie shot of a girl drunk out of her mind and doing a strip tease on the rigging table. 2. The research that I have done on the music thing..... as long as you list the artist, title, and put the copyright info in it's okay to use the music. Just make sure that you give credit to them and they will usually not bother with ya. (Watch the credits of a movie... notice how they put the songwriter, title and record company.) God luck with your highlight reels. Did this last year with two boogies...Casa and a Otter boogie. 7 cameras and over 100 hours of footage. It's not as easy as it sounds, I promise.

Still current jumper..... Best... water jump into Onslow Bay NC from 4500' out of a Heuy..... Summer time, ladies on the beach, beautiful canopy ride. Worst jump..... MFF into DZ Plover 10,000' winds gusting 30mph plus at alt. I've gotta set this one up..... winds on the ground were under 7. This one is surrounded on all sides by 80ft plus trees. It's not a very big zone, and the tracks use this place for training. So it's got stakes, and ruts out the butt. It had rained fro four days prior so all of the ruts were about three feet deep. Got out of the 46, pulled at 4,000, flew the thing holding for entire ride. Came in over the trees just above the "x", got to the same level as the trees, canopy went to shit at 65 ft (est from guys on the ground). Thank the big guy for the rain. I went from Military freefall to scuba school in about 2 seconds. Needless to say the rig and AAD were just about ruined, but I'm alive.

If you can get a hold of a Pelican Case...do it! They are the best water resistant, dust res, and they take a pounding. However, like everyone else said, they are incredibly expensive. (good ones with pick and pluck foam big enough to fit everything) is somewhere around 250 to 300 dollars. I went to Walmart and bought a large see through plastic container and got some foam from the camping section. Put it all together for just under 15 bucks. It hold everything... helmet, film, tapes, editing board, cables, remotes, camera suit, every little thing that you can think of. Also, if you can get your hands on some high density packing foam from a factory or shipping place, you can mold it into little compartments for other things.

Is the rest of the rig in good condition?? A small hole in the pilot chute I don't think is a big deal. You can patch it with some canopy tape, or just buy a new pilot chute. But, if the pilot chute has a hole in it, you might want to give the rest of the rig a complete inspection. It may have been an accident, but it also may be how she treated her gear. Give a good inspection to the whole thing!

Here is the story how I heard it...... 5 main parachutes (MC1-1C's, round mains) were jumped with severe line cuts (cut with a pair of scissors) which resulted in reserve rides. The Naval Criminal Investigation Service (NCIS) is on the case. Basically, they are still interviewing everyone who had been in that loft within the past three to four months. This action resulted in just about every parachute in Camp Swampy getting an inspection. There is some rumored speculation going around base, but I don't want to pass on any scoop from the network that may not be true. I didn't hear if anyone got seriously hurt, but how easy can a reserve ride from less than 1,500 ft set you down? Hopefully, NCIS will find the individual (s) and pin their balls (or lack there of) to a 2x4! If I hear any updates, I'll try to pass them on. Right now there is very little info because its still under investigation. I seriously doubt that much will be revealed, but we will keep our ears open.

Yep, it's the look of joy, smiles, and laughs from the TPass when they view the vid for the first time. "Man, I didn't realize how funny I looked!" Also right in there is the fact that my skill level increases with every jump. I usually do vids for four different TM's and each one of them requires a different flyin' style. I promise it's not because of the money.....sometimes on slow days we do it just because we love to fly camera and record skydives!

Friday Night: Got a few drinks at the bar near the beach. Saturday: jumped from sunrise well into and past sunset. 8 jumps day (vid work and Hop n Pop) 1 night jump into a beautiful full moon and clear skies (finally.) Had a few beers when the light came on (1:30 a.m.) and hit the sack. Sunday: slow day from beers and night jumps, did two vids and spent the rest of the day editing and resting! All in all a great weekend! Hope to do it this upcoming weekend with beach jumps and a visit to a new establishment in town!!!!!

Okay.....which do you prefer, using a board to edit or puter with DV editing? I use the later, and think that my product is just as good if not better than some done with boards. What is the general thought about processing the product? Also, I was able to offer something other than VHS to the TPass and they were thrilled. DVD !!!!! I can't do DVD with my board. Any thoughts about where the DVD thing is going?? Has anybody else started offering DVD to customers???? (I owe beer for my first Skydive Tandem DVD!!!!!!!)

epawlak, I've got a JVC GR-DV300, not a bad camera. Haven't had any of the problems with condensation or water yet. I've had it for about a year and have done just about 100 vids with it. Good camera, good vids, good price. The only thing with JVC (newer ones) is that they don't have the LANC ability. (Which is needed for a CAM EYE button.) Not many people jump JVC's so finding boxes for protection are hard to find. I resorted to building my own. It's working pretty good. Like everyone said, most lenses will work, but you may need to purchase adapter rings to match. I don't jump with WA, but have thought about looking in to it.

Getting kicked in the face during a Tandem opening.
pd190 replied to Deuce's topic in Photography and Video
Deuce... I agree with freeflir29 on how to prepare and film the TM and Pass at pull time. I haven't been kicked, but a few times been close. However, a good friend of mine was kicked right in his chin with the tandem Pass's foot when she wasn't ready for the pull sequence. He was lucky and only caught her toes, but it darn near ripped his helmet off of his head and the vid didn't turn out so well after that. Good lesson learned for me! -
I was in the same boat. I was questioning JVC or Sony. I agree with the others. Sony has a lot more options avail. The big thing is the Cam-Eye button. I purchased a JVC GR-DV310. It's a good camera. Not top of the line for JVC, but it works great. A big improvement from the HI-8 that I was jumping. However, if you've got the money, go for the Sony. I even went as far as to contact the makers of the Cam-Eye to see if they had even thought about producing anything to support JVC. They said no. So the best that you could do is a powered LED indicator.

How many places that you have jumped where you can see the Atlantic Ocean, the ICW, and a beautiful lighthouse from altitude. The view alone is worth the visit to Skydive Coastal Carolinas. I haven't been around the sport very long, but this is an excellent dropzone. Good people, clear blue skies, and a great environment. What else could you ask for!!!!

Anyone out there that can help. I just recently received a new camera for Christmas (thanks Teri.) I'm wanting to add a CamEye control button to my set up. The one's that I've looked at so far require a LANC port on the camera. My camera doesn't have a LANC port. It's a JVC DVL510. Anybody know how I could hook it up and if I'm working toward the right thing. Maybe something other than a CamEye button???? Please help! It will make camera flying so much better if I get this figured out. email here or endsley@gibralter.net
