  1. must..... not...... temptation to vent......... *sigh* step away from the keyboard----- SIR- MOVE BACK FROM THE KEYBOARD------ must post ....... reply......... vent hard........ !!!NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
  2. Navy??? are you planning on doing any skydiving in the next few years?? I hope not, especially if you become a submariner. Good luck on finding a DZ under the northern ice cap! Not bashing the Navy! I have quite a bit of time at sea with these boys, they are hard workers (only the BM's.) They Navy has some great programs if you are looking for life after the military. But, those 6 years will try the very essence of your soul, I promise. If you're gonna do it, go for carriers! (Good luck! Everyone wants carrier duty.) Why not stick to the ground side of the Navy! USMC!!!!! (Shameless plug to boost enlistment!)
  3. 4fun, Right now I know that the USMC is working hard on a system to tandem equipment, I mean heavy equipment. Boat motors, motorcycles, Dune buggies, inflatable rafts and things of that nature. They have tried working with para-planes, both foot launched and wheeled. I don't think that we'll ever see wingsuits into military application. The aerodynamics of a wingsuit, combined with combat equipment, and the skill needed to fly one are to great. However, keep your eyes opened for powered wings. I hear some boys are beginning test flights of some powered rigid wings.
  4. Born and raised: Indiana Kentucky (4 months) Alabama (3 months) Wisconsin (1 month-hated it! To darn cold) Georgia (3 months) California (9 months) Arizona (2 months) Okinawa, Japan (13 months, 21 days, 6 hrs.) North Carolina (since 94) USS Saipan (7 months) USS Nashville (9 months) Hopefully, moving out to sunny CA next year!
  5. ....flight instructors is not a good idea.. The following pics are the result of a male flight instructor having an affair with a woman student. Her husband found out and executed the chainsaw justice clause of the states laws.
  6. Watch for Virginia State Troopers! Especially down I-95 and I-77! They like to hide in the bushes and then spring out at you early in the morning hours.
  7. I setup an old protec with some minor mods, a little sheet metal and some ABS plastic. I'll pm with details if you want. I set mine up for top mount and still L bracket up front. PM me if you want details.
  8. I can only post my experience with my Dolphin container. FF'n with it isn't bad, but it doesn't have all the little nice things like the new Wings container and such. Here are some of my recommendations: 1. Check the BOC. Make sure you have a new or tight BOC. Example: sit flying from 11k and having deployment at 7k. (Pilot chute snaked out.) 2. Make sure your reserve closing loop is extremely tight. I had a lot of problems with material from my pilot chute getting out from underneath my pop top. Scary when you get down and most of your reserve pilot chute material is out from under your poptop. 3. If you have an older model and it still has the snap covers on the risers, send it in and get either the velco mod or the tuck tabs. Those snaps are notorious for breaking and having a riser over your elbow while head down is not cool. I highly recommend the tuck tabs. All in all, I haven't had that many problems with my container, but everytime I go FF my rigger gives me that strange look like, "Are you seriously going to FF with that?" Common sense, and ask some of the guys that FF at your DZ about mods recommended for FF'n.
  9. 2:6:2 2 times jumped with my brand new Hawkeye camera helmet. (Beer paid) Still haven't gotten all of the gremlins worked out yet. 6 total jumps for the weekend. Did some good rw dives 4 and 3 way. 2 new things tried at the dropzone this weekend. Well, really one, but I'll give up the stories anyway. I've been toying with building tubes. I finally got a really nice one together (checker board with red and yellow blocks with red flames on the top.) It was jumped and because I rushed a little bit on production, it shredded. I failed to double stitch half of the seams and it blew apart. Learning point for my next one. The second new thing done was my remote control skydiver. I took a G.I Joe doll and mounted a control servo on his back. Made some mods to his parachute and he began his static line training. The first jump went pretty bad. He spun all the way into the ground. It wasn't until about 80 feet the I was able to counter his spin. Second jump not much better, he got a line wrapped around his foot and spun into the woods. He needs some more work, but it's coming along.
  10. I would recommend to pop the reserve. It's gonna need a repack when you get things started again in the spring anyway right? This is the advice that I got from my rigger. I had to leave the US for about six months, and I couldn't take my gear with me, so I popped everything, disconnected my main (placed in a bag in cool dry place. My closet worked best to keep pets and others from handling it.), and put the reserve and container in a different bag in the same closet. I guess the best advice is ask your rigger how he would like to get it when you get ready to go. Some riggers may not want you to pop it.
  11. Yep, a few Marines dared to enter the holy mecca of Raeford Parachute center this past weekend. The Golden Knights sponsored the annual Army Invitational Parachute Competition over the Veterans Day Holiday. Man, talk about a good time! I had the pleasure of some great free coaching, and some 8 way speed RW comp. (The scratch team, the Milkmen, missed third place by only 1.2 seconds.) Other than the weather hold on Sunday, filled with an RW training camp by John Hoover, it was great. Jumps from the Knights Porter and the Otter were a blast!!!!! I'm already looking forward to next year!!! When I left on Sunday night, they had done over 90 Otter loads, with more from the Porter, and I think that they figured over 1800 skydives.
  12. I just wanted to be the first to wish all former and current Marines a Happy (and safe) Birthday! The Marines have been faithfully protecting the United States of American for 227 years now. So......Happy Birthday USMC!!!!!!!Semper Fi.
  13. Hey All!, Just trying to get some input...... Anyone out there interested in a beach boogie this upcoming summer??? Here's what I'm thinking.... I'm trying to talk my DZO into hosting one this year. The DZ isn't that far from SC state line and the beach has just been re-done. (new sand added along 25 miles of coast line.) I'm just trying to find out if there would be any interest in this. If I can get something to show the DZO, maybe it will happen. Of course, this is open to everyone, but a C license would probably be required to land on the beach. The actual DZ landing area is approx 2 miles from the beach landing site, so everyone could have a good time. Anyone interested in this?????
  14. 1:6:1 1 - fresh reserve repack. Not a cutaway, just due! 6 - 1 vid, 5 for fun with some 4 and 2 way stuff!, 1 coach dive that went really good for the guy only having 18 jumps. 1 - case of beer. Man, I hate it when the winter hits and it gets dark early. I was the only one left awake at 9:30, so I bought a case of beer, did my best to finish it and watched skydive movies until 12:30!
  15. Okay, here we go with my list.... C-182 C-185 C-208B Cargo Queen Air King Air Otters (Super and reg) SkyVan Casa (a few different one's) OV-10 Bronco C-5 C-17 C-130 C-141 UH-1 (Heuy) BlackHawk Ch-46 Ch-47 Ch-53 Sh-53 Osprey I think that's it, but there could be more...
  16. My home DZ usually uses one C-182 (Bubbles), but we have 2 C-182's. Bubbles and Sharky respectively due to the paint jobs. We had a kick-a#$ King Air until some DMF'er belly landed it after flying it with bad fuel. Talk about 25 pissed off jumpers!

    lost interest

Floater, I went through the same thing at about jump 100. I had almost totally lost interest in skydiving. I was sadly becoming bored with it. Then, I did something different with the sport. I started flying camera. Maybe, a good way to "restart" your skydiving is to get with someone and try something new? I know I am doing the same thing once again. Now, I'm not getting bored with flying camera, but I'm exploring other things in skydiving. This past weekend, I started my CrW training. I did a "end cell bumping" CrW just to see if I would like it. Man, is it the most intense feeling. All of my training has said "Stay 25m vertical and horizontal clearance from other canopys!" Talk about a cool jump. Maybe the answer is to explore other disciplines. But, make sure you get the right training first.
  18. Well, the DZO did it. If anyone remembers a few weeks ago my home dropzone was having some problems with some political types approving the construction of a new hangar for jump plane storage and skydiving activities. It's been taken care of! Tuesday night, the airport commission approved the construction of our new hangar. Size and location are good to go! Construction is scheduled to begin very soon. Hopefully, we will have a new hangar by summer of next year!!!! (YEAAAAAAA air conditioning, full service loft, vid room, showers, a nice deck, I hope!) Can't wait to get started on it!!! Chalk another win up for skydiving!!!!!!
  19. Howdy! Usually I hang out in the photo/vid section, but .... I recently just did start my training doing some CrW. My fist jump was this past weekend (beer was enjoyed by all.) The guy who is training me suggested that I contact some people and get some info about CrW. So here goes with the questions.... Does anyone know where I can download and print a basic CrW information guide? I've got some CrW gear together, but I'm interested How do people feel about Prodigy canopys? How does everyone feel about doing CrW with non matched canopys? I did mine with a Prodigy 225 he was on a Viper 120??? any feeleings about this??? If you have some time help a new CrW puppy out!! You can PM if needed!
  20. I just wanted to say that my new helmet is on the way!!!!! Two more weeks and out of this old Protec I go! Also, wanted to let you guys know that Jim at Arrow Dyanamics Inc. (Maker of the Hawkeye) is good to go! He has a really good understanding of what I expected. He worked with me on every issue regarding the new helmet. For you budding vid guys, seriously take a look at some of his helmets. For fit, comfort, and price, I couldn't beat it unless I made my own (which I would screw up and it would take me about two years to complete.) I can't wait to get this thing and get it set up!!!
  21. Thanks AD, man I needed that! Great work!
  22. I had about 120, but didn't really do anything with it. I just got it together because I was exploring options in skydiving. Now things have changed and I rarely do any skydiving without my camera. You never know when you are going to get that one perfect picture or that awesome vid that will drive them crazy!!!!!
  23. I've recently acquired an old reserve that I'm doing some research on. Here's the info..... X-210(R) FAA-TSO 23B (low speed) Ser # 373 DOM Aug 1984 CG-Security Parachutes Inc. San Leandro, CA This thing has been packed since 1996. I found it in a box stuffed in the back of a storage van. It came complete with a container (old Mirage from 1986.) Anyone with any info on this reserve??? I'm definately not planning on doing anything with this, it's got some issues, but I would like to know the history of this reserve. Is this a canidate for the parachute museum or what???

    help(songs?)

here is a short list of ones that would sound good acoustic..... In a Day Dream-Freddy Jones Band Crazy-Barenaked Ladies Anything by Fleetwood Mac (if you can pull it off) How about some Staind...It sounded really cool unplugged!
  25. I'm hoping to find anyone out there is has dealt with a public airport BOD. My dropzone wants to make improvements to the club by building a bigger hangar. The problem is everything has to go in front of a committee of selected individuals who serve as the Airport BOD. They even have guys who sit on a hangar committee. Basically, my DZO wants to put up a new building. He's met with the hangar committee guys, and the BOD. They are stalling. They say that it might cause problems when they do an airport expansion in 20 years. He's even met with the guys who designed the plans for the expansion. Anyone know how/where to get any FAA/USPA help with this??? Here's the kicker......a flight charter business located on the same airport went before the BOD in the same meeting and got approved the same night. My DZO has been waiting for an approval for about 6 months. Does this sound like skydiver discrimination??? I think it does. Sure, there probably is more to it than what I know, but if anyone can point me in the right direction here, it would greatly appreciated.
