I know it didn't say that skydiving was reckless and it referred to a garage sale parachute, but I just thought it was weird to use that analogy. It doesn't sound as though it was mutually agreed upon not to buy each other gifts. If you knew she was getting you something, then maybe you should have gotten her a little something. My husband and I also agreed we weren't buying for each other. It's gotten so that we buy what we want, when we want it. There isn't a lot to buy for each other anymore. However...........I did get him a very small gift, knowing I would not receive one in return. I think your wife should not have expected anything, unless... she didn't think you really weren't going to get her something. As for sharing with the lady she works with, that's not right. The lady who called should not have interferred. Next time, try to make it more clear or mutually agree. Wow, I hear holiday music everywhere. (Maybe a little too much) To me, it seems more people, at least here, have put up lights outside. Maybe you should drive around to some neighborhoods to see some lights

Awww, sorry to hear that. I love the Holidays too. Try listening to holiday music, look at decorations, and if you can......enjoy some children and try to see the lights, decorations, etc. through their eyes. I think part of it might be that it is getting too commercialized. I do agree the lack of shopping for that special gift takes a lot of fun out of shopping. What we do, is draw names between the adults, but everyone still buys for the children. Missing your dogs is hard....I won't have my dog with us this season either. It was so fun watching him open his own present. You can't do much about your long work days, but try to take in all the season has to offer when you do get off work. Ha! Finally....someone shares my feeling over this issue. I hate having to stand on an escalator because the person in front of me is right in the middle. Standing on stairs and just waiting to go up a floor is silly......walk up, you'll get there faster! Also, people who can't 'clean up' an email before forwarding something, if it has too many Fw. on it, I'm not even opening it.
