  1. A lot of different views being thrown around here, none of them entirely incorrect. Mostly misinterpreted. See my artwork: http://img31.imageshack.us/img31/2075/landingflare.jpg Looking out at the horizon just doesn't cut it for me. Maybe it does for others, maybe it doesn't.
  2. I bought one for the heck of it, just got it in the mail. This thing is HUGE for a pilot chute! Even says pilot chute right on it. I think its made out of ZP or some kind of it. Really slick and can't breathe any air through it. Trying to think up some ideas to do with it.
  3. I didn't say fixate on some object when your 150 feet off the ground. When I say try looking down at the ground, I'm talking about during flare time. Not when you turn on your downwind/base/final whatever. Your head should be on a swivel just as if you were driving a car. If your on a collision course with someone when your only 20 feet off the ground which would be better, make a screaming low turn or collide with them. Better yet, don't be that close to anyone when your that low. Looking out at the horizon at 15 feet off the ground never did much for me, maybe because I jump in a mountainous area. Better off just looking down to see how high you are off the ground. Maybe I'm just good with perspective.
  4. Maybe if you have a streaming mess of nylon above you, you land in a swampy area, and do a hell of a PLF you MIGHT have a better chance of survival.
  5. Stop posting. See what I did there? crashtested - glad to hear they didn't go apeshit on you...They aren't bad guys....just misunderstood frenchies!
  6. I practiced judging my altitude by getting up on a ladder and looking down at the grass about 15 feet below me. I memorized the detail that I could make out in the individual blades of grass. I then would go up to about 25ft, then look down and do the same as I did at 15ft. Then when I'd make a skydive, I'd look down at the detail in the grass upon landing. I'd also quickly look at the wind blades, and some other objects near the landing area such as cars. Basically if you can see the roof of a 30 foot tall hangar, you're too high! Or If your looking DOWN at a wind blade that's 15 feet tall, you're still too high. If you're looking up at a 15 foot tall wind blade....PLF!!! If you're on radio, then try to look down at the ground when your instructor tells you to flare. So you can get an idea of what the ground looks like at flare altitude. May or may not work for you, but you can always practice PLF's while you got the ladder out!
  7. It's possible if you're using firefox. When you click the link that brings up your media player, it will also bring up a blank page in Firefox with a URL ending in a video extension. Such as .mov .avi .mpg .wmv etc...On that blank page go to File>Save Page As, then choose a location on your hard drive to save it to.
  8. It's because the initial blast of urine is unpredictable!
  9. Wouldn't the harvester chew the bridle up?
  10. As long as you don't plan to jump on the weekends, the weather will be fine! Make plans...and you can expect rain, snow, tornado....etc
  11. Keep an eye on the timing belt, if it hasn't been replaced in the past 94k miles then I would replace it. A broken timing belt can lead to bent valves, and possibly damaged pistons. It's generally a good idea to do a tuneup at 100k miles. Replace all the belts, spark plugs, spark plug wires, all fluids, etc...
  12. I used to have some small problems with stability when I was still on student status. So I started doing practice touches up high. Reach back and hold the pc handle for a few seconds. After a few jumps I was able to hold a stable heading when in the pull position. Might work for you too.
  13. Sounds like a good answer. Placebo effect can be more powerful than modern medicine...someone eats food containing MSG and gets a headache a few hours afterward. Therefore the MSG must be the culprit! Because everyone knows, there are only 3 reasons why headaches occur: trauma, screaming children, and MSG!!!
  14. I've had some luck with splicing headphone wires, but not much. Sometimes it works, usually it doesn't. The small wires inside are insulated with an extremely thin, clear rubber coating. You can't strip it off, I've tried burning it off but that usually destroys the thin copper wires inside.

  16. They've been advertising this everywhere, even posted a thread in my home dz's message boards.
  17. Always wondered what it was like to skydive. Decided I'd just go and find out for myself, hooked after 1 tandem.
  18. Well lets hear your friday the 13th skydiving stories. Anyone jump specifically because it was the 13th?
  19. Looks more like a frap hat to me! Wonder if she stayed for the beer light....
  20. Stalls are really fun, so is slow flight. Ground reference maneuvers were probably my favorite while I was in school for my private license.
  21. Wondering what the story is behind this video http://youtube.com/watch?v=JVJpjfOfJFg It's been played and replayed on TV countless times, I was just wondering exactly went on here. Inexperienced jumpers? Bad weather? BTW I searched wedding demo, wedding incident, wedding jump, wedding entrance and came up dry so if someone has something else they want me to type into the search, let me know.
