  1. I was a poor college student. I only did 1 level/month (but fortunately was able to skip 2 levels) as that was all I could afford. It took me 4 months to complete AFF. My uncle who used to skydive in the military and now works top secret, mysteriously sent me a check after completing my AFF to buy myself a rig, helmet, altimeter, etc. That was the first time I'd ever heard from him in my life. Apparently my mom had told him about my new passion and he was extremely pleased Without that, I don't know what I would have done. Having your own gear after AFF is so important to the cost effectiveness of jumping.
  2. What I meant was shelters that specifically took animals---being that anyone who went there obviously had pets and/or knew they were not allergic. It's obviously not a perfect idea, but neither are the shelters in general. Any emergency is chaos--that goes w/out saying. You have to plan to reduce the chaos as much as possible and being that one of the main reasons people don't evacuate, etc. is b/c of their animals, I'd say providing somewhere for these people & their pets to go would DEFINITELY decrease the chaos. I absolutely can not STAND to watch the animals, some tied to posts on the porch surrounded by water on TV. I change the station. I'm not ignorant to it obviously, but no reason I need to see it again, and again. It just really pisses me off, pardon my french. I ransacked my place, and though I"m NOT a packrate, found a truck load of stuff I took to donate to the victims of Katrina. Some will not agree, but as far as my financial contribution---that went strickly toward the various groups going in to rescue animals/pets, etc. In a strange way, I always feel worse for animals than people. When I was little and saw the movie Dances With Wolves though I didn't like it, I didn't cry when the white man and the indians fought and hurt/killed one another. But, when a soldier took aim and shoot Two Socks, the wolf, I was hysterical. Natural reaction. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
  3. Has that come out on DVD yet? I definitely will rent it. I'm more into home theater's than the real thing as whenever I go, it's always a gross experience somehow Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
  4. I live at the beach---you can usually see several kiteboarders out daily. I used to wakeboard and was very involved in the circuit back in the day. Kiteboarding has really taken off recently from when we all were trying it for the first time. As mentioned, the kites are powerful and requires strength & stamina. Having said that, depending on where you live, I dont' think it's as difficult as what some have indicated, nor hard to get into. Most extreme/surf shops around town have info/lessons offered. Most people I know who have experience wakeboarding pick it up fairly easily. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
  5. Do beautiful women really need an explanation? Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
  6. Warning: Rant I'm a major animal/pet person. Veg, donator, volunteer, the works. And, I'm a rational, fairly intelligent person---having said that, there's no way in hell I'd leave my animals. (I would however, evacuate earlier to find accomodations that accept pets). My point, however, is if any city, town, FEMA, govt. whomever wants to be successful in getting everyone to cooperate, evacutate, etc. they have to be realistic---Most people willl absolutely NOT leave their pets. Once they realize that and make plans/accomodations for it, they'll find it will make things a lot simpler. Is it just me, or is it so insane that there STILL aren't shelters that will take pets? Haven't they learned from numerous hurricanes in the past that one of the main reasons people don't leave is they refuse to abandon their animals? Sorry---had to get that off my chest Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
  7. Thanks, I plan to rent the DVD. (I don't go to the theatre often). I love Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn and the whole crew. Old School is one of my favorite movies. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
  8. Obviously crotch rockets are winning the vote---to each their own, but BLAH I would have said Harley, as that's what I have. I grew up riding behind ma daddy on a Honda Gold Wing and later a Harley. But, if you like cruisers, these days, I think Honda makes a better bang for your buck Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
  9. Thanks for the tip. If you want to see The Excorcism of Emily Rose either go late at night, or wait for the DVD. We went opening night at the 7:30 p.m. showing. All high-schoolers---apparently it hasn't gotten any more difficult to get in to rated R movies since I was in high-school. The laughter, the obnoxious screams, the comments, the kids trying to scare each other---really ruined it. Great tip, though b/c I'm notorious for my bad movie picks. I enjoy Scary-Thrillers & Comedies which can always be either really bad or really good. I usually end up seeing the really bad ones. My secret love, though, are Pixar/Disney movies: Finding Nemo, A Shark's Tale, both Shrek's---my favorite Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
  10. I didn't want to post this in the "Hurricane Homeless Victim" thread as that should remain what it is for. But, the subject reminded me of something insane I heard on the radio news---a women in Ocala, FL. took in an elderly couple who lost everything to Katrina. Their HOA had a meeting and said the couple had to leave as one of the rules of the HOA stipulated "no hosting of hurricane victims". All the more reason why I NEVER want to be subjected to one of those Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
  11. That's what my Oma used to tell me Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
  12. Sixteen Candles is the funniest movie ever Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
  13. I used to swear, but broke myself of that. Now I'm all "gosh" and "goodness". I definitely curse---damn is not a bad word in my book. I'm trying to break myself of profanity. I used to use the "F" word a lot---now I just blurt it when I'm *really* satisfied Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
  14. Not sure what kinda info you're looking for but... My boy-toy and I see these once in a while flying overhead (we live at the beach) and have looked into the idea of buying one. They run around $7k-$8k, but we thought if we bought one, we might see if any local beach business wanted to sponsor us if we committed to flying it so many hours along the coast for advertising. We talked to a guy who flies one and he said it's pretty safe and low maintenance, but that's just one person's opinion and you know how opinions go... Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
  15. In this week's "People" magazine, there is actually a similiar article on this about people who have lost their jobs due to "blogs" on the internet which their employer somehow not only found it, but decifered the identity of who it was. It's really interesting. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
  16. I hope I don't upset anyone, but I actually use my DZ.com for anything on the internet that I want to do that requires me put in a valid e-mail. I don't get any spam to my personal and like it that way. I do, do a quick scroll to see if any messages are legit, but then just do a mass delete. I do so daily, so as not to take up space on HH's site. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.

Is it just me, or did it take anyone else a couple times reading this one to "get it"?

  22. I COMPLETELY agree! Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
  23. Depending on the size of the bed---take Saran wrap and while roomate is sleeping and go under bed, over top of sleeping roomate, over and over fairly tight. When he wakes up, he won't be able to move. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
  24. Oh, no, I definitely didn't mean to imply you "know it all" or that I thought I did. I was smart enough, as you are, to realize I didn't, but I what I didn't realize, was that even as strongly as I felt about certain things back then, as you do, those might change, even if just slightly, into the later years. I am stubborn, and always on high-speed-go-go-go, but I always love to laugh, joke and most importantly, have an open mind. I won every debate on the debate team in high school and college. But I have to say, after hearing other people's points, even if it didn't fully change my point of view, and even if I could refute them well enough to win my side, once in a while, someone would wake me up to something I hadn't thought of/knew about and my opinion would change. I think it's very important to entertain other's ideas/thought even if they conflict with your own. I don't "disagree" with you, necessarily. I'm just offering up another point of view---if it influences you b/c it makes sense, wonderful. If not, then that's OK, too. I wouldn't think any less of you. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
  25. Oh, please go to page 3 and read my story. 1. You might just have a good job straight out of college---I did. 2. It would definitely not be just for money that you'd be putting marriage on hold. We sound a lot alike, but having just come through where you are now, it's worth at least listening to the other points of view, even if you ultimately stick to your current opinion. I, too, was a communications major (and also a sociology and pychology major) and graduated w/ all 3. I thought I knew everything b/c I was so mature for my age and had accomplished a lot of things people much older hadn't, and before I continue tooting my own horn---I still had a LOT to learn, I discovered (edited to add, since I just read your most previous post:) You sound a lot like me. I did very well managing my own money through college. I met my current hottie while still in college (age 20) when I started skydiving. I've been saving/investing since age 13. I completely admire and respect you for all of that. I know how much that sets you apart from the rest and how mature you obviously are. But, things DO change, no matter all of the above. Skymama, can tell you, I didn't want to hear that same old shmack about "but you're only 20" and "that's what they all say, give it time when you're older, you'll see" and I'm like, geez, do these people even know what I've already done/accomplished? But they're still right, even if they don't know. They're right b/c no matter who you are, you STILL change your wants/needs/views into your 20s and after college. It happens to the best of us.
