  1. You can go ahead and email me at my dropzone email. :) And regarding the discontinued items, currently we have a system in place which allows discontinued items to remain visible and still get reviewed (as far as I know on the latter). It simply states "discontinued" in red text next to the discontinued items. An example of this can be seen here: http://www.dropzone.com/gear/Main_and_Reserve_Parachutes/Performance_Designs/index.shtml
  2. Yeah, nothing like grown men mud wrestling in short-shorts talking about who has the biggest biceps. Rugby would be great... Only if it were played by girls, in bikinis.
  3. I explained why this wouldn't work though in soccer. Unlike hockey where it's a tiny playing area. Soccer, you have a huge midfield, where play is needed and skill is defined as a player. And you'll just have people clearing the ball from one side of the park to the other it'll be a game between the two goal keepers or defenders. There won't be the ability to challenge players in the mid-field gain ball possession and push forward. It'd be like a game of pong... The whole point of the game would be to get the ball into said box as quickly as possibly and then hope from there. That wouldn't be soccer
  4. Yeah, but football isn't about battling it out in the box ;) That's only a small part of it. It's mainly about getting the ball to that position, the ideal play is to have about 4 players pushing in the mid, and one pushing on the outside with the ball, making the cross into the box and then having those 4 players in the middle make sure they time their runs right. It's all about getting past defenders and timing runs.. And of course the finish. I think it's difficult for Americans to appreciate football because they are used to such quick games. Ice hockey is a very different situation, since the playing area is tiny in comparison, and it's very much a 2/3 movement per goal game. Where as soccer is about 10/20 movements, it slows the game down, but increases the need for skills in many cases, it would make the game a lot easier without the offside rule. The same with cricket, the US struggles to even comprehend test cricket, but much more back the 20/20 format which is 10000x faster. Once you understand the skills and exact rules of a game it becomes more exciting. Doesn't need to be people just scoring and bashing each other constantly :p
  5. To make it easier, you can eliminate the idea of '2nd last defender' as you're likely including the goalie as a defender. Which if you want to make things difficult you can do, since if he pushes forward it changes. But since that's on rare occasions let's rather just imagine that the goalie remains on the goal line. So now for an offside to occur, you need a player that's not got the ball to be closer to the goalie than any of the other sides defenders WHEN someone ELSE passes the ball to him. People are putting to much weight on terms like 2nd defender, last defender etc. It doesn't need to be made that complicated- Fact is, if I have the ball and I want to pass it forward, my team mate must not be closer to the opponents keeper than any of their players, as long as one of their players is closer to their keeper it's fine. The off-side rule helps with players skill, because as a striker you have to gauge your runs. You hold back just centimeters from the opponents last defender and then as your team mate makes a cross or pass you push really hard forward (once the ball is in the air you may move to an 'off-side' position.) And then the point is to make it so that it's just you and the keeper since you've broken away from the defense, legally. Of course it limits breakaways from if there had not been such a rule, but it increases the need for skills and speed. You need a perfect pass as well as a perfectly timed run to break forward past a defense. So much easier to explain with pictures though. Added: Also, it doesn't make sense to allow all passes past a certain area, THAT would be a boring game and not football at all. Football is about skilful midfield play where you string 10-20 passes together while pushing forward. If there were a spot where any passes were legal the goalie would just clear the ball to that spot each time and you'd have a clump of players in that area the whole game on either side and mid-field play which is essential, would be eliminated.
  6. Hence my quotation marks around the quote ;P I don't know most of the other mods political views anyway. I just know Quade tends to post what I think a lot of the time.
  7. Thanks, I've gone ahead and updated the camera section with the above mentioned items. And BKR, I have also added those 2 missing BAC items.
  8. Well played. And the fact that 'all the mods are ultra libs' should say something shouldn't it ;) Especially since their political views were in many cases unknown during their appointing.
  9. Basically the practical application of this is that for many users around the world, ultra-highspeed internet is not available. But many users use youtube to upload their videos and do not want to sit through the process of uploading them again to another site which can take hours depending on the internet connection, even here in South Africa a 50mb video would take about an hour. This allows users to instead, just copy the link of their youtube video and share it on here instead of having to upload the whole video again. And for those with internet cap restrictions, it also saves on bandwidth usage. "Stream through this site" pretty much means what it says though. You can find an archive of skydiving videos in one place (here) sorted by precise category and then view the embedded video on dropzone. The idea is to create less effort/resource usage for the uploader, and more content for the viewer.
  10. Thanks for the encouragement :) With some of the manufacturers releasing their 2010/2011 catalogues around this time we may get more very fresh items hitting the gear section over the next few weeks, so I'll do my best to stay on top of that too. slotperfect: Consider it done ;)

    Collision with Raft

A group of skydivers were performing a jump with a raft, they then proceeded to get under the raft to let it go, assuming all the skydivers were grouped under it. There was another skydiver who was lagging behind above the object, when the raft was let go
  12. Then here's to hoping nobody contacts me telling me your dropzone has closed down ;) Actually what I may do is contact the DZO listed, should someone ask for the deletion of a dropzone that is not their own. Makes more sense.
  13. Thanks for the post. We have just (today) updated the Bonehead helmet section of the gear. What I will do is try to contact all/most of the gear manufacturers and ask them to forward us new products and adjustments that need to be done on the gear side, and I`ll try to freshen things up a bit there. UPDATE: I have gone through the process of manually adding over 100 new gear items to the database. I'm going to sticky this thread for a little while, in the hopes of receiving feedback on potentially missing manufacturers and items which will allow for a more comprehensive database!
  14. According to reports the skydiver exited the plane as normal, during freefall the rig came off. When the container was found, the AAD was not active and the chest harness was undone.
  15. I thought I had found a solution on this issue by keeping dropzones without them showing up, but it appears that if I unvalidate a DZ it goes back to the 'waiting to be validated' queue.. Will see about the archive, but it'll be a bit out of place in the general category structure, so may just have to remove them altogether. Will take it as it comes.
  16. The issue comes in where one who is the other dropzones competition or someone that doesn't like them sends an email saying "please delete this dropzone it's closed" when it isn't. So essentially that is the reason why I asked for username when deleting the dropzone, so I could see if it matches the link owner. Basically just a safety feature. But there are ways around it I suppose, I mean if a dropzone's last review was 5 years ago then it's quite obvious that it's closed down. I'll speak to Sangiro about maybe creating an "Inactive Dropzone Archive" category for each of the continents, and move them into there.. That would also solve the problem of dropzones being called inactive when not the case, as they could easily be moved back. Anyone can feel free to PM me a list of inactive dropzones which I shall collect so long, and then depending on the outcome on what we will do with them (delete or move) I`ll do that. Cheers
  17. If you want your dropzone removed due to being shut down etc, You can contact me at bdekocks@dropzone.com with the dropzone name and your username, why you want it removed and I'll remove it for you. I don't think you can remove the dropzone altogether manually (I may be wrong though considering I've never seen the interface from an ownership point of view). But as I said, just fire me an e-mail or private message with your username and dropzone name, along with reason for removal and I'll do it for you. I'll also speak to the tech team in regards to if one has the ability to remove your own DZ some way and let you know what I hear.

    Wingsuit Collision

While taking part in a 7 way wingsuit formation, two jumpers collided while attempting to form the formation. Was found deceased under his reserve. The other jumper involved escaped with bruises to the legs.
  19. I don't have much love for the police. But with that said, are there good cops... yes. I have a friend who is a policeman. BUT, I think they just made a stupid choice in joining an inherently evil, racist and bully-filled organisation. So I give him shit about it all the time. The problem is that with power comes an ego, and they know they can get away with anything. I don't support becoming the governments bitch in any form. 'To serve and protect' is far more often 'To abuse and bully'. I definitely disagree with the general idea that it's taboo to shit-talk policemen. No one and nothing should be exempt from criticism. Their driving is just a small part of their abuse of power. And PS: Piisfish, well played good sir, well played.

    B.A.S.E. game

My landings on the D3 game fails miserably. I blame the fact that even if my landing is 'great' I am bouncing 20 meters on my face. Though if there is a way to actually land on ones feet please feel free to share. I have only played like an hour of it though.
  21. The following discussion forum has been created to ensure that the Wingsuiting Community have the opportunity to participate in the discussions as set out by the FAI/IPC in the Wingsuiting Working Group’s Terms Of Reference (TOR). The 1st entry is a short overview of the TOR and the 2nd entry is the definition of a Wingsuit. The definition of a Wingsuit will form the 1st topic of discussion. http://www.fai.org/parachuting/forum/wingsuits
  22. Dropzone.com will be down tonight 10 March 2010 for a period of approximately 15 minutes, beginning at 11 PM US Pacific Time.
  23. Regardless of who is right and wrong I think you all know no one is going to back down or change their mind sets. It's just going to be a back and forth of "you are", "no you are", "no you!" I'll get the popcorn so long
  24. I think it will be a lot easier to just state that every person of every race is racist. There are racists from both sides, the difference is in most cases people don't acknowledge blacks hating on whites as racism. Because of the way the world has in general been run by the whites (People, don't try to make that sound any worse than what it is), the effects of racism has been harder felt by non-whites. But it is pretty stupid when a black person can call a white any racist term and it's just a laugh but when the roles are reversed then it's different. A black calling a white a 'lighty' or 'whitey' won't get any shit, but call a black a 'darky' and it's racist. I understand what dreamdancer is trying to get through in many parts, but also think he is digging too deep looking for anything that could be considered racist and then saying that is racist. And most of it is large scale discrimination which slips under most peoples radar, which is essentially 'racist', but not in the way many interperate the word. Though I think things are more just bad politics than racism. For example, a common argument which is part factual is that black people are the source of most crime. This is true sadly, that's just the way it is (especially here where 95%+ of prison inmates are black). The reason for this is because they are the ones who are the poorest and needing to sell drugs or rob to survive (you'd all do it if it was your life or crime). BUT... Putting more effort into erradicating poverty would solve a lot. And many said the reason why there isn't more government spending or help going into the poor is because of racism. Now this is totally untrue, here in South Africa we have a black government who was voted into power by the poor, because of their false promises, but they still are hardly doing anything for the poor blacks and would rather focus on getting more money for their luxury cars, so as I said... Politics.
