I recently got an Android smart phone after just putting it off for ages assuming it's over-rated. Needless to say I see why people are all on about them. I really don't need to carry my laptop around anymore, and with wifi it loads everything just as quick as my laptop too, probably even quicker because I don't have a million useless processors open that's slowing the device down. An with the apps, browsing on a normal browser now kind of feels messy.

You mean something like this? http://www.pcworld.idg.com.au/review/tablets/acer/iconia_a500/381853

That could be a benchmark for the iPad3. With it's monster resolution and 263ppi. "Impossible to see pixels with naked eye" clarity, combined with what I assume is better media playing support, could allow for the most supreme of HD porn viewing. Whereafter it shall assume the title, the iFap.

Anyone hating their ipad can feel free to ship it to me for a better home. They're useful if you're active online. I'd like one just so if I need to check e-mails, news updates, update my websites, something I can't do easily without having to drag my laptop when I'm somewhere else for a weekend. They are limited, and no replacement for a laptop. But I'd use it solely for it's internet browser. Mobile devices are alright, but try updating content on a blog or website with a phone.

Would Tapatalk work for mobile optimization?
Meso replied to NWFlyer's topic in Suggestions and Feedback
There is some hope here, our content management system recently released a plugin that allows for mobile optimization. Costs a bit of money, but I will speak to Sangiro about it and see if we can get it to happen. -
Strange, I'm keeping a log of these issues and hopefully they can help show what is causing this so we can try working at a fix.

Stop being so picky! With that said... I think the ads have been removed, I got a response from the ad team who said the request for their removal had been handed to the ad supplier. And I haven't seen any since being online today. If they aren't gone yet, they should be soon.

The list of mod functions include: Ban: User | IP | Site IP Disable: User Thread: Keep | Lock Thread: Move | Stick Post: Detach & Move Recycle: Post Post Visibility: Hide And they all work for me in firefox ;)

I think everyone wishes that it could be just basic ads, but things changed a lot with the years too. The costs involved with running it are quite high due to the amount of support. I always figured sites claiming that it costs a lot to run were just bullshitting to get some more donations and stuff, but after working support and having to work at getting developers to fix scripts that are breaking and stuff, it's actually a lot more work than I had envisioned. Ads in general changed with time too, I mean when Sangiro originally started the site and long after even, an animated ad consisted of giant lumo text flashing on and off with lightning bolts. Animated ads for the most part became a bit more bearable, though still somewhat annoying, they weren't going to give you a seizure. Ideally we would be running a site where there were only ads directly related to skydiving and for these ads to be un-intrusive and very easy on the eyes. But there aren't too many skydiving companies advertising this way or think serving their ads with google is the better option for them. In a niche sport where site subscription is optional, ads become necessary to keep it going. We still have a fairly strict ad policy and do our best to remove ads with sound, pop ups or anything that affects the usability. Of course this ends up costing us, but we do still very much aim at providing ads that aren't completely annoying and least intrusive as possible, and when they do 'pop up' we seek to remove them. I am also in the same office as Sangiro and he does weigh in on what to do with some of the ads and whether it's acceptable or not.

So if I end up losing my job due to lack of funds, I can blame it on you!! *hides his ABP install*

Already being discussed in: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=4281120;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread Already put in the request to remove the ads from the server.

I have contacted the ad team and asked them to remove the ads, if you're receiving floating ads in the mean time. You should be able to close them by clicking the [x] in the top right. But we are working at getting these ads removed.

If you're thinking about creating a thread requesting money, promoting a fundraiser or asking for votes for something - please read this post for some guidelines on what is accepted, what is not and how to go about doing it right. Donations As much as we'd love to help everyone with everything, you can imagine how many posts would flood the Bonfire if we were to allow requests for best friend's sister's cat needing money for an operation. If you're looking for donation support, we ask that you follow these guidelines. 1. Make sure that the person in need is a skydiver or direct family of a skydiver. 2. Make sure that the request is worth asking for support. Medical related issues for example is an acceptable reason. Asking for donations because someone needs a new car, obviously is not. 3. Posts by active forum members are more likely to remain than posts by those who pop in or sign up solely to post a thread looking for donations. Fundraisers We're pretty lenient when it comes to fundraisers, but there are some guidelines you should follow and things to know before posting. 1. Fundraisers that are skydiving related are far more likely to remain than threads promoting fundraisers unrelated to skydiving. 2. Fundraising threads would be best kept relating to the raising of funds for skydivers or direct family of skydivers, with that said there are some exceptions we may be willing to let through. Voting There's a lot of this usually, and in most times it's all good and well, but there are times when people abuse this leniency. 1. Make sure that you are an active forum member when asking for a vote. If you haven't visited the site in 5 years and have 3 posts, asking for votes in some competition is not the right thing to do. This is about friends helping friends. The Bonfire is not an advertising platform, but we do allow some of the above things to slide, so we just ask that these privileges are not abused. If you have read and understand the above guidelines but are still unsure of whether a post you want to make is within these guidelines, just send me a private message with the information regarding to your post and I will either approve or deny your request.

Eek, not again. Will get in contact with the advertising peeps and ask for it to be sorted ASAP.

It's not the legal firearms held by moral citizens that's the problem. It's the ones that exist among the criminals that's the problem. Unfortunately, as it so happens - most of those actually once belonged to those 'moral citizens'. It's a common practice for thieves, break into houses and steal the guns from safes/steal the safe itself. Doesn't matter what the rules are on gun control in that state, when you've got so many travelling between criminals, it's removing them from those people that should become the focus.
-
Still doesn't make sense. If I put a balloon on one table and a gun on the table next to it. I doubt any rational thinking person is going to say both tables hold the same risks, regardless of who is at the end of each object. Both can be used to murder a person, but one is far far more likely to. Not everyone owns a gun. Not everyone should have to feel as though they need to. Many people end up in marriages where the wife refuses to allow a gun in the household, or people can't afford it. On top of that there is the fact that during a hijacking it's hardly a situation that gives much time to reach over and get a gun. As well as the fact that, not sure about how it is in the U.S, but from what I've gathered from reports here a criminal is far more likely to kill you if he sees you pull a gun. I'd imagine that's a reaction that's fairly common among criminals when it's kill or be killed. You're also looking at the problem backwards, instead of trying to work to remove the problem, you're aiming at ways to deal with it. Would make sense if the guy holding the gun in the first place wasn't in an advantage situation being able to shoot as soon as he sees a sign of a gun. As I said, there would need to be very descriptive laws around privacy drawn up in such a situation. But if the government wanted to round up all gun owners, you think they couldn't do that already? Finding your exact location or your home address which I'm assuming is on all registration forms is hardly any different in the amount of work involved. If you find yourself at some point staring down the barrel of a gun used by a criminal and you're out of reach of yours, the fact that he has one is going to be the problem, nothing else. And one has to be all kinds of psycho neurotic to never leave their gun. Instead of focusing on defence, logic would say it would make more sense to focus on removing to opposing offence.
-
I'm not anti-guns and I think they do have a place in the world. If I had the money and ambition to register I'd own one myself. With that said, one definitely can't deny that availability of guns are likely to cause an increase in certain crimes. And cannot just say 'guns are not dangerous, the people behind them are'. Yes a baseball bat can kill, yes a knife can kill, yes a box cutter can kill... But you're going to struggle to find a criminal who would attempt to hijack a car with these objects. In hijackings especially, a gun is almost the only effective way to commit the crime. One can easily out-drive an attempted baseball attack, you can't outdrive a gun up against the window. Fact of the matter is a gun does make crime a much easier action for criminals and in most cases if it weren't for the gun the victim on the other end would stand a much better chance at running away or defending themselves. I can get where pro-gun people come from, one should have the right to own a gun. But at the same time, restrictions need to exist to prevent these weapons from getting into the hands of criminals. No firearms to people with a history of domestic violence, nor to ex-cons nor those with mental disorders that tend to lead to violence against others. Honestly, I think that guns should come with GPS tracking, not sure how but in a way that makes it extremely difficult to remove. Granted there would need to be strict privacy laws that require that tracking only take place once a gun is reported stolen by the owner. But I think it could be a major advance in illegal weapons. I know that in South Africa most of the guns used for crimes are stolen, it would be much easier if police were able to just track the thieves immediately after theft is reported. Seems like a decent way to clear up illegal firearms. Though with the amount that's already on the street it would only curb the problem a bit. Guns are fine given that there is an obvious effort and regulations stated that keeps them out of the hands of people who are a danger with them.

Yeah the free hit was introduced to cricket only a year or two ago, it's a very new concept. Nah the umpire has to award extras as dictated by the rules. 1 extra is given if no run is taken. You can get 5 extras from a ball by having an overthrow for 4 occur on a no ball. You could also have it occur off a wide. That is the most common way to get 5 runs in a single ball - if the bowler bowls a no ball, the batsman hits it and the fielder tries running him out only to have the ball not be backed up by team mates and have it go for 4. Then essentially it's 4 overthrows, but afaik in that case it's counted as an extra. Alternatively 5 penalty runs are awarded if the wicket keeper has his helmet off and it's behind him and the ball touches the helmet during play.
