  1. An excellent point. People routinely spend thousands of dollars on dirt bikes and gear. With gas prices the way they are now, I'd bet that a day spent riding would be close in cost to 4 or 5 jumps when you figure in getting out there and back again. I use to complain about the price of getting into skydiving, until I got into snowmobiling. In my first 3 years in the sport I spent alittle over $25,000.00 that included 500 jumps, two rigs, a wingsuit and camera equipment with helmet. My grandfather gave me 2 snowmobiles. So $1200 for a used trailer, $350 for new trailer tires, $20,000 for a new SUV to pull the trailer (since I only owned sedans), $1000 for studed snow tires(wheels, tires and 2 sets of snow chains), $1000 for suits, helmets and gloves for family. That does not include the $100 per trip for gas. So, just to get to the parking lot with snowmobiles that were given to me it cost me $23,550.00. Oh, yeah new sleds run from $7000 to $10000 each. 2. I have a two piece free fly suit that I use for tandems. I had it built with reinforced cordura knees and butt for tandems. I only use the jacket during the winter and during the summer I wear a polo shirt with the DZ's name on it. This is not required, I personally think it looks more professionalthan just wearing jeans and a t-shirt. Kirk
  3. You might try asking Bill Booth. He has done the first tandems at the North Pole, I believe with wind chill it was about -65 to -85 F. I am not sure where I saw the video but it was quite interestling. Kirk
  4. I could be mistaken but I thought you use to fly either a Mach1 or a Super Mach 1. If so how does the Stealth compare? Kirk

I have a cordra reinforced butt on my free fly pants for the butt slide, but IMHO if you need padding then you really need to rethink being a tandem instructor. Your students should not be hitting the ground hard enough for you to need butt pading. Kirk
  6. You are right. I did mean South America. I really just had such a bad experiance with them I tried to forget everything about it. Kirk
  7. My wife and I always go to the Hallmark inn in Newport. We love the service and the rooms. Kirk
  8. When I ordered a suit from them and it was 3 weeks late they told me it shipped from their place on time but shipping from south Africa can take time and can not be traced. They blamed it totally on the postal service and the second I had an issue with the suit I never could get anyone to answer. Kirk
  9. It is hard to imagine anyone walking away from that wall strike but if he did than the video post is completely understandable and I was wrong.
  10. Why poor taste? Hard REALITY is great for people to see now and then. Perfect exits, tight terrain flying and low pulls are the norm thats posted. IMO, ws BASE shouldn't be aproached without extensive preperation, and clearly this person wasn't ready. I really respect you and you have a point, however, I feel that some respect should be paid to those who have died. Dwayne Weston was the one who took me out and taught me how to fly wingsuits. I have seen the footage of his demise and amazing enough that footage is rarely seen and generaly blocked out ware it got nasty. We all know the reality of wingsuit base I do not think it shows us anything more than bad taste to show video of someone going in IMHO. Kirk
  11. Video is great, but I think it is in poor taste to have the small video clip of at 2:14 seconds in of what has to be a wingsuit pilot going in. Kirk
  12. Firefly is still in business. I heard that she got a few very large military orders that have kind of slowed them down. I just spoke to Sherry this morning about my order and it is shipping this week. You may have better luck calling them 515-280-6691 Kirk

    Blade

Hi Randy: Glad to hear you bought a Blade
  14. I would say it is not very common for first time tandems to get sick. I have 785 tandems and have had 3 people vomit and probably 20 or so feel a little woozy. Some of this depends on the instructors attention to how their student feels (get a woozy student under canopy and spiraling will generally kick them over the edge). If my student seems concerned on the ground I explain that if they are the type of person that would get motion sick on a boat the may get motion sick under canopy. Kirk
  15. Some emergency rooms are really busy most of the time so just go to another one. In Septemberr I ended up in the emergency room for the most intense pain in my abdomin that I have ever had. First hospital took 45 minutes to have a nurse do a quick exam and I was told it would be 3-4 hours to be seen by a doctor. I went to another hospital, I was seen by a nurse in 15 minutes and after the quick exam I had 6 doctors (or assitants) working on me. At that point my heart rate was 37 beats per minute and they thought my heart might stop. After 8 hours they could not figure out what had happened but I never had any other issues. Kirk
  16. My comparision came from over laying an S3 and an S3S. The arm wing on the S3S was 2" longer (meaning it went 2" farther down the body of the suit where it is sewn with the cutaway cables) than the S3. The leg wing was approx. 5" wider but shorter. These two suits were not made for the same person but are very close the S3 was a total of 1-1/2" longer measuring from the shoulder seam to the toe seam than the S3S. Kirk
  17. I liked the movie but the camera movement gave me a headache. I thought that the idea was great and pulled you into the movie better being from the prespective of people caught in the middle. Kirk
  18. Do not buy a rig ( harness-container, reserve canopy, main canopy, AAD), until after you get past the AFF training. Canopy size will depend on your weight and canopy skills( and canopy size will dictate what size of container you will need). After graduating from AFF, talk to the instructors about what size of canopies and type you should buy. As far as goggles & altimeter you could purchase before getting through AFF but talk to the instructors about what would be best for you. Kirk
  19. Have you had someone shoot video of your flying? Are your shoulders rolled forward? Are you flying flat or do you have an arch( something that helps me is if I try and feel my entire rig on back, which will dearch you)? You can also slow your forward speed and slow your horizontal speed by using our Aarons (or taking the handles and turning your hands down towards the ground). Kirk
  20. Just a couple of ideas 1. Sell your V2 and buy a suit better suited for what you are lookin for. 2. The cheapest solution is just to loose some weight. I have personally done this in the past for the specific reason of wingsuit fall rate. Thanks Kirk

  22. By no means was I trying to say anything even vaguely negative about PF or Robi, I have the utmost respect for Robi as I know he is one of the pioneers behind the sport of wingsuit flying. My statement was mainly pointed toward the brand loyal fans that look at all other brands as bad. It is my humble opinion that once you step over the 200LBS mark for a flyer without gear they will need the biggest wing possible to fly effiently with lighter fliers (or maybe it is just my lack of skill and my being over 200LBS that lead me to believe this), anyway I am very glad to see a variety of large winged suits becoming available. Kirk
  23. I find it interesting, I have been very much a fan of Tony suit since they came out with the Mach 1 (although I still have not been able to afford one), and I have heard so many people comment negatively about the Mach 1 and the SM1 and talk so highly of PF(not that I have anything against PF, as one of the pioneers in wingsuits and make great suits). I find it interesting that PF's new suit looks alot like a SM1 even down to the over the shoulder zips I guess what I am saying really is I find the brand loyalty to be quite entertaining. Personally, I like all the brands out there and love to see the new innovations that are coming out from all of them. Kirk

    Micro sigma

We have Sigma rigs, I did not realize there was a difference between them. Kirk
