    Virus warning

I came in this morning to over 1,000 firewall alarms (machines hitting port 135 - Blaster virus) And some dip shit who knew someone here got infected with the Sobig.F - you know how it puts a random address in the "from" ? Yeah, put one of my user's address. So, they've gotten the virus a few hundred times (I think everytime it infects another computer, it responds with itself too - so I get to see who all is infected now! ) as well as all the 'undelieverable' messages and the 'hey you sent me a virus!' messages... at least nothing is infected here. BTW - Cornell.edu and unl.edu seem to have gotten hit pretty hard it's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality
  3. like I said in the other thread that was deleted - it's his house, his rules, his watchdogs. You can't really argue with what he says. If he decides that you can't make any religious jokes, that's his choice. Even if you don't agree with what he thinks is "religious" ... it's not really your call. it's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality

  5. What? You mean this isn't true? "Just about all women are crazy. You've probably already figured that out at some point in your life. Women simply are not normal. They may act civilized, they may act proper, but it's all a façade, a scam designed to reel men in before putting on the proverbial handcuffs (and the ball and chain on our ankles)." it's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality
  6. It gets worse - I heard from someone who saw the latest Star Trek movie that one shipped rammed another, and it didn't move. Space anchor maybe? it's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality

  8. LOLOLOL... That is pretty funny. Where did you get it ? I first found it on http://www.dialasong.com The "Best of Spin the Dial" is hilarious too. You should hear him make fun of ... I think it was Pearl Jam maybe? Fun stuff. "While my guitar gently weeps" is in there too. Ok, so this may take some explaining for non-TMBG fans. Spin the Dial - during their show, they bring a radio out on stage, and spin the dial. They'll stop on a song, and the band will just start playing along. Sometimes they'll just make up words as they go along, othertimes they'll actually do the song, just in a completely different style. Sometimes it's really hard to tell exactly where they fade the radio out and the band is picking it up. And it's completely improv - it's actually the local radio, not prerecorded stuff. Takes some talent and a bizarre sense of humor! it's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality

You know the spell checker here doesn't like the word "fuck"? Odd. it's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality

  18. Someone tied me down and forced me tro watch Elimidate the other night - there was a guy on there claiming to be a skydiver, lived in NY I think. I think we came to the conclusion that he had probably done a tandem once. it's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality
  19. Me too. Curious - how did it even get internal on you? My firewall alarms are going crazy with probes on port 135 it's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality

  21. jtval - Start regedit, and look in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run see if there's a value "windows auto update"="msblast.exe" Look through your processes (task manager) for Msblast.exe If it's not in either place, you're probably ok. Also, you could probably go to a command prompt, type netstat It's normal to have a handful of connections in there, but if you have a ton, to a bunch of different addresses, you could have a problem. EDIT: Yes, you will stil want to get the MS patch so you don' t catch this again. Go to http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/security/bulletin/MS03-026.asp -- part way down is "Download locations for this patch" -- click on your OS. EDIT 2: There's an easier way to keep your system from rebooting (rather than trying to beat it) on 2000 and XP. Go into "Services", find the RPC service (*not RPC Locator service*) go to properties, the recovery tab, and set all the failuer options to 'restart the service' -- don't forget to change this back when you're done fixing stuff. it's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality
  22. If I remember my Network+ material correctly, I think you've got the wrong idea of a 'passive hub' -- a passive hub is non-powered, an active hub is powered. But anyway, you're both right - just the linksys/netgear personal "things" usually combine the functionality of a router, firewall, hub, and sometimes WAP. it's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality

  25. Macs were designed for a 4 year old to use... seriously. They're very very easy to use. OSX is sweet. Almost anything you'd want to do on a PC, you can do on a Mac - unless you're a serious gamer. it's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality
