but the state department seems to say that about every nation on the earth in its travel advisories. Which just goes to show, once again, that there is no correlation between gun laws and crime. Well, other than that the criminals IGNORE them... I guesss they are toothless, then
-
Hey cool!!! You will repost when you want and you go all snarky when you dont want to. Nnnnnnniiiiiiiiiccccccceeeeee I guess you didn't read that one either, because it was NOT the same one and was not a repost.
-
Yes, it is understandable because there are more low income taxpayers than high income ones. Apparently 20% of $500k - $1M income earners cheat.
-
I guess you agree with my opinion. At 10:24pm on Dec 26, 2007 YOU wrote: "I don't believe that the gun bans work at all, for exactly those reasons - the criminals don't care, won't obey it and will still get weapons" Thanks.
-
Well, that's the problem, isn't it. The high paying manufacturing jobs have been exported, leaving lower paying jobs for those who can't do molecular biology (and similar).
-
As could you - You need proof that gun control laws are easily circumvented? Are you crazy? I don't see anything in there asking for your opinion of my sanity. Prove your cite - or are you going to continue to play Kallend-ish word games? The only word game going on here is by you, for repeatedly misrepresenting what I have said. If you want to prove or disprove your own incorrect version of my position, please go ahead.

No, I didn't. This part is even quoted in my own post. Note it doesn't say "IRS employee", and basically everyone who spends couple hours on irs.gov could call themselves "IRS researcher". Apparently Mr. Johns is an IRS EMPLOYEE (unless you really truly believe the University of Michigan Business School deliberately lies on its publications).
-
No, only the threads I participate in.
-
[ Maybe you missed this bit: and Andrew Johns, an IRS researcher. You might also look at Fig 7 in the following IRS publication: www.irs.gov/pub/irs-news/tax_gap_report_final_080207_linked.pdf which shows that some 70% of the underpaid tax is from the self-employed and small business owners - those pillars of Republican society.

Not at all - prove your cite, and show how MORE laws that criminals aren't going to follow is going to solve the problem. What? Where have I claimed that more laws are going to solve the problem? Do you bother to read people's posts? Do you claim that existing local laws are difficult to circumvent? Since you claim the laws are "toothless" you obviously think more/stronger laws are the answer. So, it is up to you to prove how more/stronger laws (or the existing ones) are going to make a difference to someone who is not going to follow the law in the first place. Prove your cite. Flawed assumption on your part, making your request irrelevant and moot. You could try reading what people write.

So, what you are saying has nothing to do with principle. Obama takes a principled stand on responsible, transparent government. And now we have two cabinet appointees who didn't pay taxes. Everyone on the left is making excuses. It is a left right thing. Obama could earn HUGE points if he ousted these two bums. But IAW Chicago politics, he owes them something, and he needs to deliver. And yes he can. I think I'm agreeing with you. OTOH, maybe it takes a thief to catch one.

Source please IRS. Source provided previously IN THIS VERYTHREAD.

Our economy was best in the world by far when it was manufacturing based. Basing our economy on "financial services" has led to the current fiasco. When you can make more money by manipulating money than by creating something, you have a problem. I see the Wall Street crowd is still paying themselves huge bonuses.
-
Great point. What I don't understand is how those on the left and the Obama supporters don't see this as offensive. He makes responsibility and accountability a huge issue and then makes excuses for two appointees. There's no way they made "mistakes." But IF they did then incompetency is a disqualifier. It IS offensive, but it's not a left/right thing. To repeat what I wrote earlier, Over 20% of people who make $500k - $1M per year underreport their income according to the IRS. THAT is what is really offensive. Yet the Bush administration cut back on IRS enforcement for the very group that contains the worst offenders.
-
Well, for one thing, the highest business/corp tax rate in the world. Higher than the EU!!! Why shouldn't they leave????? They are treated like criminals in this country. I would go where I am treated better myself. How about you? ALL of the most developed countries in the world have moved away from a manufacturing-based economy. Nothing special about the USA in that regard. And look what it did for our economies!

This is an issue of the ruling class and underlings, not liberals vs. conservatives. I would love to see this passed, and I am a liberal. The problem is that we (the underlings, both conservative and liberal) don't make the rules. We just all like to pretend we do. In case you're wondering who the ruling class is - it's the Golden Rule, of course - "those who have the gold make the rules". +1 -
I suspect it's more of a high income thing: articles.moneycentral.msn.com/Taxes/AvoidAnAudit/the-biggest-tax-cheats-rich-folks.aspx Over 20% of people who make $500k - $1M per year underreport their income according to the IRS.

the will need to put the money out sooner for it to have a chance. they seem to be timing the money release so it may make the next election cycle. Oh, and I thought it was to pay for Wall Street bonuses and Citigroup's new jet. Amazing that corporations that needed us taxpayers to bail them out of their own incompetence in a financial crisis of their own making are still paying multi $million bonuses to their execs.
-
Yeah, he's gonna have to provide the proof on that one, too.
-
There IS a correlation between gun ownership and gun fatalities. It's not surpising there's no correlation between gun crime and gun control laws (a different matter altogether) when gun control laws are toothless and easily circumvented as they are currently enacted.

Greed and gullibility. People WANTED to believe that they could buy a house they couldn't afford, and everything would be fine because the mortage broker said so. People wanted to believe they could buy securitized junk mortgages as investments that would go up in value because the ratings agencies said so. Bankers believed they deserved to become super rich by manipulating others' money (and they are STILL paying themselves huge bonuses despite their bank having to be bailed out by taxpayers). -
That assumes a very narrow definition of "great". I would submit that the following undeniably great men were no "badder" than the average Joe: Albert Einstein Leonardo da Vinci Michaelangelo Charles Darwin Ghandi Jonas Salk Alexander Fleming

So that makes him...I don't know...stupid? Don't know about that, but it makes him --- unreliable as an infallible source of wisdom.
